So Sadie and Classic, you really don't like the song "First Time", seriously? I would love to hear that song in concert :) I'm sure it would sound a little different, really it would!!

I just heard "Lights" again too. Darn, I wish I could go back in time and hear it live in concert - UGH!! Love that song too!! :D

Let him add Born For Adventure or Evil Eyes. No First Time. He already did that one in concert this year. Let that be the first and last time. Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I made copies of all my Classic Styx albums to use in my CD player and in my vehicle. I copied all the albums intact except I left off one song and one song only......yes....First Time. ACK!!!

That's how much I don't like that song.

Air Supply could cover that tune, as soon as they finish with covering Styx's "First Time"

oh, and by the way, wouldnt this thread fit in quite well over on the JOURNEY board ?

Just wondering.

I guess Steve Perry's nose is big enough for both forums.

But Jim died
They really have the right to play the music
If Richard carpenter brought in Celine Dion to play a concert of carpenters music would that be ok ?
I say yes it would
Kinda the same thing

You're wrong. In the Doors case, the band basicaly broke up after Jim died. You're right, the new "Doors" have the right to play the music. They do NOT have the right to use the "Doors" name unless all parties who own that name agree to it.

In Styx' case, they basicaly said they made a band decision to move on without him. So, the argument is who owns the name and who doesn't...which the courts would have had to decide --- NOT ANYBODY ON THIS FORUM, or Dennis, Tommy, or JY publicaly. Instead of continuing and allow the judge to make a summary judgement (as Styx requested), Dennis settled. That's the way things were Deal with it.

Did some digging and this is what I found. If you would like to download a pdf copy of the lawsuit that was filed, you can get it from the Styxtoury archives page.

Go to October 11, 2000. At the bottom of the page, there is a link to download the file. You will need Adobe acrobat.

Somehow this is going to add more fuel to the fire for both sides, but it's there if you want it.

Very depressing read. I guess this how Star Trek fans felt when they realized everyone hated Shatner. So Tommy sold his interest in Styx for $999? Why?

I think these comments are uncalled for, which doesn't matter to you Monker. It's kind of mean to make fun of someone's physical features that they were born with.

Scott, what people hated Shatner and why? I didn't know that, I thought he was well liked.

Most of the cast of the series didn't like Shatner. From what I've read, he was very insecure and very arrogant in their opinion. I know I just read somewhere (when Scotty died) that he couldn't stand him.

Whether it's true or not, I've no way of knowing, since I don't him at all.

very depressing indeed
still, if anyone has a copy of the "out of court" settlement , that would be more interesting.
It is only one side of the story, we dont know what was said in defence??
As a side note I do feel a little sad to be reading what is personal business between the band. I don't think anyone on here has a right to pick the bones out of it

Unfortunately, when a court is involved there are the points of view of those involved and the legal stuff you include in a document like this to try to prove your point. Much of what would only be represented that way in a legal form, but not entirely how you feel.

These are open records and I'm pretty sure anyone can request them. This file was uploaded on a few sites on November 14, 2000, which you can still find and download.

There is no way to access the "out of court" settlement papers and everyone involved cannot talk about any of the contents.

Sure would Suite!! no doubt about it BUT something happened that none of us know about, or will ever know about.

I have always refused to take sides on this, and always will, it has nothing to do with me , I am just a fan, and will continue to support BOTH sides. Its about the music for me, and I love what both are doing.
It just pisses me off when humble fans attack one side or the other over what is "band politics", but then again this board wouldnt exist without it or be very boring :|

You're right, this board wouldn't exist or would be really boring if we all agreed or were all on the "same side" 8)

So, Styxmike, do you like the song "First Time"? LOL I'm sure next week I'll be on a different song

If I were Dennis, I would have sued. But it's a business decision, and that's it, especially if the band wasn't talking to him in any manner. It is the only recourse he had.

The interesting part in my opinion is more of how a band operates behind the scenes that we never see. Especially of a band of that magnitude at the time. Partnership agreements, royalty splits, etc.

I also try to stay impartial as best I can. This is definitely not our issue as much as it was between the four principle members at the time.

Rightly or wrongly, they all came to terms. The case was settled out of court. Meaning we will never know what was agreed to. The only thing we do know is that all parties agreed to whatever they agreed to and at least came to terms with it at the time.

The lawsuit was/is a business decision, painfully made I am sure. Beyond that, I think it wasn't our business, but the internet gave us access to it. I think each member of the band surely regrets having their business discussed and vilified by their fans.

Time to move on and enjoy the music. Thanks for a great post NH. I couldn't agree more.

Yeah FTLOSM was a good album, if ur in the market for an album of good mood music to kill urself to.
Man, what a downer that one was.
Greatest Hits + 5 is so insignificant it isn't even worth mentioning.

froy wrote:Arrival Blows it away

I agree with Neal. "Arrival" was good, but not great. Had alot of filler. Maybe 6 or 7 solid tracks out of 15. The only song on Generations wich is absolute garbage to me is "Believe" (lyrically bankrupt and monotonous). The rest of the tracks run the gamut from mediocre to pretty good. Listen to track 2 again and tell me that is not Journey. I think if they kept the Dean bonus track on there, this album would be even better.

froy wrote:TBF blows it away

Other than "Message of Love" and "One More" what on TBF was so good? Loads of soporific ballads. Yeah, sure, they are pleasant and innocuous enough, but there is more to Journey than the same re-heated sentimental ballady.

I am well aware of ur Journey fan credentials. I say give the album another try. Being that ur a fan of Arrival (and someone who apparently regards rockers as an anathema) I think u should at the very least enjoy tracks 1,2,3,7,12. Do me a favor. Grab a pen, write them down and go give 'em a listen. Tell me what u think.

The lyrics "stand tall" were also used on the Frontiers album. Gonna tell me now that that album stinks too?

Im not sure how we got to FTLOF SM but I will say it had a few good tunes
The Title Track Is great
I Am is good
Stand Up is good
Loves Like a River is increadable

Track 2 is good but not powerfull and not a song I run to hear
Faith in The Heart Land is increadable
I Love it
They should have opened the show with this tune and they should dump all the Pre Perry stuff and rock solid all the way through.

froy wrote:TBF blows it away

Your kidding right ?
Can't tame The Lion is great
Colors of The Spirit is the best tune on the cd
Easy To Fall is killer
Still She Cries is killer
I Can See It In Your Eyes Rocks
Castles Burning Live was smokin
Augeri did great with it .

Fair enough
I will do just that
I do like the Ross tune I think it kicks ass
BUT its not JRNY its Ross sings for ZZ top .
