Sales Figures - Styx

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Sat Aug 06, 2005 12:00 am

I don't know if all of you visit Andrew's main page, here are the sales figures from a few Styx albums. I added his notes that explains it. Thanks Andrew :)

SALES FIGURES - A RUN DOWN FROM THE USA:
Occasionally I get the chance to offer some feedback on CD Sales and see what titles have sold what. It's next to impossible to gauge worldwide sales numbers, but one organization does monitor US sales numbers and it is these numbers we are having a peak at today.
In the US, all official sales figures are tallied by a company called Nielsen Soundscan. The figures gathered by Sounscan come from reporting stores across the USA and are deemed reliable enough for Billboard to use as their official supplier for data for their charts, including the USA Top 200 Albums.
Before you read the figures - a few words of explanation. These figures are USA only, not worldwide numbers. Many titles are also available via different labels in Europe, those sales numbers are unknown.
A few side notes are placed next to some of the titles - please also take those notes into consideration.

Artist / Title / USA Sales To Date
Styx - Big Bang Theory - 42,855 (Still a recent release and selling) Cyclorama - 56,017 Brave New World - 73,428

It's humbling to see some of those numbers, considering how many albums those artists sold in the past

Cyclorama - 56,017 Brave New World - 73,428

Using froy logic, he is correct in that only a little over 50,000 care about Carrot Styx. Then again, by the same logic, under 18,000 cared that Dennis left (or got kicked out).

They seem to be holding their own vs. acts in the same vein. Classic Rock is simply not being pushed these days.
“How did that sound?”

“Like Teddy Ruxbin hooked up to a car battery!”

Asia's last CD selling less than 6000, and compare that too their debut but you can say that all the 70s/80s bands have suffered with the exception of Bon Springsteen. I think if Steve Howe and Carl Palmer returned to Asia CD sales would still suck just as if other ex members returned to their original bands......how things change and it shows how radio and promotion means more than song quality as there are some great songs on the last Asia CD......The Prophet, Gone Too Far and Long Way From Home being just 3 of them.

Man that is so true. Although, the recent GnR Greatest Hits sold over 1 million and none of that was due to promotion. Same old songs that people loved and I guess the timing was right.

Speaking of GNR, I wonder how many former GNR fans contributed to Velvet Revolver sales!
