Wooden Nickel Era Live Recordings

Postby classicstyxfan » Wed Aug 10, 2005 1:56 pm

This place needs some fresh topics !

I'm wondering if, aside from DDY's recent lost treasures shows, are there any recordings/bootlegs out there with Styx playing songs off their 1st 4 LP's ( they weren't CD's yet when they were 1st released.....)

Please exclude Lady, I'm asking about the more obscure early Styx music.

I know video would be asking for too much, but is there any decent audio to be had ?

Just wondering.

I think Suite mentioned rumours about one from early 70s floating around.
I love this era and would love to get my hands on one.
I got a boot from 76(Equinox tour),where there is a track or 2 on from that era.

The earliest I have is 1975. The earliest concert video footage I have is 1972. I'm working really, really, really, really hard to put together all the early 1970's Styx music together (concert footage). In the early, early 1970's, they did a lot of cover songs. Last year kiddo posted the old set list on here.

I think there is something special for all Styx and classic rock fans coming next year.

Wooden Nickel Live Recordings

This list comes from a pic that was in the photo gallery section of the old paradisetheatre.com website.
Some of the song *titles* are obviously easy to remember nicknames the band came up with when writing out their set list for a particular night.

1.) Gypsy
2.) Behind Blue Eyes
3.) Locomotive
4.) Aqualung
5.) Slut
6.) Liar
7.) Long Time
8.) Free
9.) Woman
10.)No opportunity
11.)Your Move
12.)Bus Rider
13.)S. Blues
14.)Whole Lotta Love
15.)Knifes Edge
16.)Jumpin' Jack
17.)Honky Tonk
18.)Miss Queen
19.)To Love Somebody
20.)Crimson King
21.)Wooden Ships
22.)Hush

The set list numbered 32 so there are 10 I was unable to figure out due to the angle from which the picture was taken.

Such an interesting list of songs. Dennis mentioned in a recent interview about covering "Wooden Ships". At soundcheck before the Festa show, I heard Dennis pranking around on the keyboard doing the riff from "Knife Edge".

Thanks for posting it, Kiddo.

Gr8dane :)

Here's what's on the "boot" that I have:

Born For Adventure
22 Years
Lorelei - another version, I think I now heard 20+ versions of this!!
You Need Love - LOVE it
Suite Madame Blue
Lady
Midnight Ride

It was recorded in Canada, because Dennis talks about songs played in "the States". He also mentions that "Lady" was 3 years old, so this was recorded in 1975.

I'm still looking for the Hawaii footage - LOL I'll keep posting this until I have it!!!! This was one of Tommy's first Styx concerts/

Thanx Suite,2 songs from Wooden Nickel, not bad.
Guess we have to go to 74 shows for more.
Keep forgetting Equinox is from 75 and not 76.

gr8dane,

I can't find anything earlier than 1975. I found a few 1976 concerts, that's about it. The earliest I have is just the song "Best Thing" from 1972, it's a grainy DVD with grainy sounding music. Better than nothing. I wish they would release some of the old, old, old stuff that's floating around.

:)
