Openers for Styx that I've seen:
1983: none
1991: none
1996: Kansas
1997: Pat Benetar
1999: none
2000: Joe Stark, Billy Squire, Bad Company
2001: Saga
2005: none

Personally, I've preferred none, although Bad Co. was very good and enjoyable!

My first Styx concert back in 1978 at the Minnesota State Fair was the orginal Main Event concert, and New England opened for Styx.

A friend of mine talks about a Styx show he saw, circa 1976 here in Madison........a triple bill

- The James Gang ( including Joe Walsh )
- Foghat
- Styx

Cant say if Styx or Foghat was the headliner, next time I see him, I'll try to remember to ask.

GREAT Topic!!!!

StyxNH should have all this information on his site.

During the Equinox/Crystal Ball Tours, Styx OPENED for these bands (I don't have all dates-yet).

Black Oak Arkansas, Kiss, Gary Wright, Heart, Blue Oyster Cult, Rush,
Foghat, Journey, J Geils Band.

1972 - Styx - David Bowie
1973 - Styx - Doobie Bros.
1977 Arrowhead Stadium with Steve Miller and Peter Frampton

Here's a few line-ups from 1975 and what bands Styx performed with, I have no idea what order or who opened for who.

6/1/75 "Toe Ditch Music Festival"- Bowling Green, Kentucky: Bowling Green
U. Stadium. With - Styx, Johnny Winter, Montrose, Golden Earring, Ritchie
Havens, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Pure Prairie League, The Outlaws.

8/3/75 Nippin Stadium: U. of Cincinnati- Cincinnati, Ohio.
With : Styx, Black Oak Arkansas, Blue Oyster Cult, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band,
Mahogany Rush, Foghat, REO Speedwagon.

Here's a little more information:

By Spring of 75' larger shows began to take place due to "Lady". A small
tour with Queen, lots of outdoor dates, one in Bowling Green, Kentucky with
the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band! Also a few dates with a then up and coming Bob
Seger & the Silver Bullet Band
as support act, which included the first
ever Rock Concert at the newly built Saginaw (MI) Civic Center.
