Hah, he looks like a serial killer there! :D

They still sound excellent despite the loss of Darrell and departure of Manny.

In all fairness, the last Dan pic is probably not the best picture taken last year.
I saw them in concert in 2004 and they were excellent.Dan is trim and fit with a wrinkle here and there, but what would you expect.
Seing them in September again and I know I will get great value for my dollar.Even if he has got another wrinkle since then.
Jesus loves you ,but everybody else thinks you're a knob.

Ahah! Behold the awesome power of ... a haircut! :)

At his age (late 50s / mid 60s or so) he can look anyway he wants. He still has it in the vocals department and even though that "serial killer" pic might be unfair, it isn't really. Those aren't wrinkles -- those are laugh lines -- Dan simply can't help it if he's a down-to-earth grin-monster! ;)

He's like DDY with a very self-depreciating sense of humor. If he were on this message board, he probably say something like, "Ya blokes 'ere are just jealous that we're very fortunate to be in front of thousands of ya every night for close to 40 years! Feedin' off that enegy has turned many of performers into grinnin' like a serial killer from time to time! I'm not the first one to have his picture snapped during those moments ... and I won't be the last!!" :P

God bless him and more power to him! :D

I always thought Dennis' looks, haircut, and wardrobe was the most flattering during the Kilroy era.

Same with me, I don't have wrinkles, I have laugh lines, whew!!

PsychoSy, Glad you added the other pictures, much better. He does seem like a real happy person. I have no clue on the band Nazarath, I guess I can "google", do they still tour together or is he on his own? I'll have to look up what songs they sing.

During my younger STYX days, when I was around 12/13, I always thought Tommy was the cute one, I thought the other band members were SO old - LOL

I don't want to hear it, Sadie & Bugsy - LOL

That's good...since you'll be reading it! Tommy never did anything for me in the looks department. My opinion only.

Favorite Dennis era for me would be Paradise Theater. Though I did like his look in Desert Moon as well.

The work ethic of Nazareth is just like JY -- they won't be done until the EMTs scrape 'em off the stage. They love what they do. Nazareth has always been a very very underated band that meshed blues, metal, punk, and rock all into their own sound but if it wasn't for their covers of other peoples songs, we'd never know of these lads from Dumferline, Ireland. In the 70s, they were mostly a covers band and it was one of their covers that brought them attention in the US -- the Everly Brothers' "Love Hurts". Other covers got them more attention over the years such as Joni Mitchell's "This Flight Tonight" (who upon hearing it said, "I might've wrote it, but it's Nazareth song now!") and even raise eyebrows such as a raggae cover of Eric Clapton's "Cocaine" and a very pop/new wave sounding cover of The Stone's "Ruby Tuesday".

But they needed some original material to justify adding "Love Hurts" to an album. In 1975, one of their "mediocre originals" for the album caused controversy. Nazareth wanted to call the name of their forthcoming album "Son Of A Bitch" to co-incide with the title track of the same name. The record companies said, "Eh, No! Change the name of both". Nazareth, always full of the trademark Scottish humor, decided upon "Heir Of The Dog" because it meant the same thing -- a male puppy is a son of a bitch, sort of speak. Alas the record companies said, "Change the spelling of 'Heir' to "Hair' and we'll green light it." The track and album then became "Hair of The Dog" and exploded on American rock stations after "Love Hurts" ran its course, lighting up request lines as male listeners personally identitified with the lyrics:

Heart breaker, soul shaker
I’ve been told about you,
Steamroller, midnight stroller
What they’ve been saying must be true
Red hot mama
Velvet charmer
Time’s come to pay your dues

Now you’re messin’ with a ...
(A son of a bitch!)
Now you’re messin’ with a son of a bitch!
Now you’re messin’ with a ....
(A son of a bitch!)
Now you’re messin’ with a son of a bitch!

The album was a huge seller -- the largest of selling album of their entire discography. The controversy over this hit song caused problem when touring because of the language. In one instance, a female leader of a South American country personally told Nazareth before their gig, "You will not be closing your show with that!" Nazareth agreed. They promised not to close the concert with it.

Instead, they opened with it!

They also had decent songs in the 80s. Not huge hits like "Hair" and "Love Hurts" but good songs that got some airplay like "Dream On", "Games", and "Love Leads To Madness" off their 2XS album. Alas, the end of the 80s saw the start of the grudge scene and founding guitarist Manny Charlton left the band due to creative differences. Nazareth forged on even though, like Styx, airplay on radio here in America became scarce (hell, next to nil) despite decent songs such as "Move Me", "Steamroller", and "May Heaven Keep You". American radio passed on Nazareth until 1998 when they re-recorded "Love Hurts" this time sporting an full-blown orchestra. Didn't become a hit again but got some well needed spins on Classic Rock stations and let fans know that they're still out there. :)

Nazareth is an acquired taste as their music isn't for everyone but their hits sure spawned imitations of their sound such as Guns N Roses and Jackyl so if you like GNR or Jackyl, you'll like Naz! :D

They got a solid little following (big enough),for trekking through Canada just about every year. The new guitarist,or at least the one they had on last tour was absolutely fantastic.
I am looking forward to their show here in Toronto mid September.

Thanks PsychoSy for all the information, I appreciate it. Very interesting.

I know the song "Love Hurts", just didn't realize who sang it. I remember playing "Son of Bitch" on the bus during high school, we'd get in trouble because of the naughty word - LOL

I think those are the only 2 songs that I'm familiar with.

gr8dane, I don't see any dates close to my area, thanks :)

Glad to see this thread- always loved Nazerath and in the late 70's and early 80,s all my fiends were fans but they are defininetly not a mainstream band. I remember having tickest for like row 3O and thinking I had scored great seats(1981 or 1982) and ended up paying a scalper about half face value for 3rd or 4th row and throwing out my tickets. Bad move cause we ended up in front row and never showing are tickets. - Very under appreciated band with lots of talent - "pLEASE DON'T jUDIAS ME"
Looking back at a life

No regrets only memories

Mark to Marcie, that's a huge change - YIKES. I thought Mark was kind of cute back then, but now?? I guess he's or I mean she's pretty

I'm pretty sure I seen King Kobra in the 80's in Chicago, they must've been with another band. I'll have to check my old ticket stubs. That might've been one of the show's I snuck down to Chicago to see. Another one was Mercyful Fate and King Diamond on a Halloween night in Chicago. What the heck was I thinking back then - LOL

Actually, you'd surprize yourself with how many Nazareth songs you're familiar with because they've covered a lot of areas and genres and did it all sometimes to the point where you'd think they were somebody else. I betcha upon hearing "Dream On", "Where Are You Now" (sounds more like Toto/Chicago than Nazareth) or their New Wave-ish cover of "Ruby Tuesday" (which musically sounds like it was done by The Cars), your eyes would bug out and you'd gasp, "Wait! I remember hearing these on the radio! Wow! Holy Shit!" :D

Classic Rock stations every once in while like to throw you a curve ball once in a while. A while back, listening to WCSX in the car, they really blew my mind. Right after their "It's A Deeeeeeep Cuts Weekend" bumper, I hear a belching power chord bend followed by a familiar riff and I cranked it thinking, "Cool, can never have too much KISS!" But it wasn't KISS -- turned out it was Nazareth's "Hard Livin'"

They had to really root around in the catacombs for that bad boy! :D
