Styx in concert at Minnesota State Fair.

Postby Augerilvr » Sat Sep 10, 2005 9:12 am

I just saw Styx with Reo at the Minnesota State Fair 9/03/05 and that was the wierdest show ever! I have seen them a few times, but this was odd.We got a serious rain storm that made us all soggy then they made us evacuate until the lightening passed. Then Reo shortened thier set by a few songs so I was disappointed there,But Styx was good although I thought Lawrence could have been less wierd with the spinning around and around of his keyboard. We got it,it spins.Woopee-do.Plus he was trying to imitate Dennis DeYoung more than sing.I like Lawrence but come on,act yourself.Don't imitate Dennis.Dennis was the best thing Styx ever had now without him they are just ok. I saw Dennis at the Taste of Minnesota this year and he was the best concert I have ever seen.Anybody else think Dennis was the best they ever had? I love Tommy Shaw too,but he's looking a little old and tired out.He needs a haircut too.

LOL, I didn't know which way you were going to go with this one

But Styx was good although I thought Lawrence could have been less wierd with the spinning around and around of his keyboard. We got it,it spins.Woopee-do.Plus he was trying to imitate Dennis DeYoung more than sing.I like Lawrence but come on,act yourself.Don't imitate Dennis.Dennis was the best thing Styx ever had now without him they are just ok.

To me, watching him spinning around the keyboard was kind of creepy and yet comical.

To me, Dennis was the best thing STYX ever had too.

I did, I did, I saw Dennis only 6 times this year!! (LOL) To me, the best concert that I ever seen was his solo show at the House of Blues in Chicago. No other concert will top this one, the BEST!!!

I use to love Tommy Shaw too until the crap that happened eons and eons ago, I still enjoy his songs and harmonies with classic STYX

He does look tired and I think he needs a hair cut too, or maybe combed a little more

I'm glad to hear that you've seen both Dennis and Carrot Styx :)

Welcome to the Grand Illusion here at the STYX forum

Geez, by the looks of the weather where we were in the cities(Rennaisance Festival)we were wondering if there was a show at ALL. I hadn't heard an update on that yet. I saw them the night before in Mitchell. Gowan was pretty wound up that night too, almost more then usual!

I don't think I would get quite crazy enough to say THAT, but it WAS a really great show, once he figured out he wasn't going to be able make his hair perfect OUTSIDE! lol! :P

DON'T try to cut Tommy's hair again! We bitched for years for him to grow it back out! Personally, I think it is a little scraggy, but if he could make it look like the Damn Yankee years...oh BABY!

The last thing Larry is doing is trying to be like Dennis...

He is a goofball and the spinning keyboard is his thing.

Based on musical selections and types of shows it is really difficult to compare the two shows other than they are both presenting Styx music with just a little song selection overlap.

The last thing Larry does is imitate DDY, have you actually seen him live or is this just another cheap shot at a exellent musician/showman by another DDY fan. Oh yea Tommy is looking really old!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think he should cut his hair, dye it grey, put on a suit then he would fit in the rock 'n' roll image eh!!!!! jeeeezz hope I look half as good as him when I'm he's age!!
You accuse Gowan of imitating Dennis BUT you are an Augeri lover mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
It is STYX it says so on Larrys keyboards

Now, now, be nice. She's new to the boards. She did see both types of concerts and is posting her opinion.

In my opinion, Tommy really needs to get some rest, any type of sleep. If he had the proper rest, he would probably look 10 years younger than he already does. I don't mind his Damn Yankees hair do - LOL

Is long hair for guys still "in" for bands?

Just wondering

For your info Styxmike,I have seen Styx several times.I just saw them on September 3rd at the Minnesota State Fair, and if you would have read the post I started called Styx in concert at the Minnesota State Fair,I said I liked Lawrence! I just don't like the spinning of the keyboard.I think Lawrence is cool. And yes,I am Augerilvr cause I like Steve Augeri.I also like Tommy Shaw,Lawrence Gowan of Styx, all the members of Reo and all the members of Journey.I just happen to like Augeri more than Lawrence.(sorry other Styx fans.) That's why I picked my name Augerilvr.I love Styx.I don't have anything bad to say about them.I just wish DDY was back cause I like him and thought he was really good.I said in a previous post I saw DDY one time.About 2 months ago here in St. Paul and it was the best show I ever saw.I have seen great Styx and Reo shows and some not so great. So before you run your mouth, get your facts straight! Thanks for sticking up for me Suite Madam Blue.So far you have been the nicest to me on these chats.

You don't need to justify anything to STYX Mike believe me.
STYX has run there game out
The name STYX is meaningless
They showed total disrespect to the legacy
It is damaged beyond repair .

When you saw DDY, which song/s did you like best? By the way, how long have you been a STYX fan? Just wondering.

When you saw REO, were the set lists the same each time you've seen them? Also, did Kevin talk a lot each time? LOL That still drives me crazy with his talking between songs :) But he does seem so happy when he's telling these stories, seriously.

I haven't heard that cd in a long time. I'll have to see if I can dig it up and play it sometime.

I'm listening to "Brave New World". I can't stop playing "While There's Still Time" and "Goodbye Roseland"!!! Damn good songs!!

I thought it was ironic that he's doing solo orchestra shows now, how weird is that? Did he ever do them before?

I bet any money Carrot Styx will do a few next year, with what songs, no clue!! I personally don't think any of "their" songs would be orchestra material, anyone? I'll have to listen to the 1996 boot of the symphony show to see what songs were played, unless anyone remembers the set list.

STYX is a joke and not a very funny one

I think it's a mixed album. There are some brilliant moments and there are some "eh, I wish they didn't do that song..." moments. At the time it was released, I think many wanted it to sound like DY...which is impossible without Ted. So, they threw a bit of a curve ball at people and many just didn't 'get it'.

I think Tommy's 7DZ is MUCH better...and, from what I've heard of Jack's solo album, it may be better too - but I have only heard a few songs. That is a bit ironic, that their solo efforts are better then when they are together...But, oh, well.

At the Mn State Fair Tommy said "Hello,Minneapolis!" He was in Saint Paul.Guess I can give him credit for being in the right state.Lol.And for the rest of you that like to slash my comments....I SAID I LIKE STYX AND GOWAN!MY OPINION WAS DDY WAS THE BEST STYX EVER HAD.I JUST THINK STYX LOST SOME OF THIER PIZZAZ SINCE HE LEFT.I am not saying they suck,I never said that.I have only seen them 4 or 5 times.I am a newbie.Just because I like Journey a tiny bit better than Styx doesn't mean I hate Styx.I am so tired of band wars.So people have opinions some bands are better than others.Who cares.I am sorry if I offended anyone,I thought this was a post your opinion forum.Lol.

welcome to the board!!! sorry if my comments upset you BUT I am getting a little pissed at put downs of the band (larry in perticular) on this board and you just got the shitty end of the stick, although I stand by my rebutal!!
The one thing I agree with is that Steve Augeri is a cool frontman I can't wait to see him live with Journey(If they don't come over here I will come over there)

1 Tommy looked and smelled just fine when I met him in June
2 No he isn't , one of the nicest and humblest guys I've met in the Rock business
3He knows who he is, THE SINGER AND KEYBOARD PLAYER IN THE ROCK BAND STYX
4 Like Dennis was the first person to do this eh!!!!!!!!!! Deep Purple , Metallica , Scorpions, Kiss , Meatloaf, TO NAME JUST A FEW have all done this, difference is they don't drag it out 6yrs
5 Everything comes to an end sooner or later, you or DDY won't have a say in it when it does . Still filling theatres , still recording , still kicking ass, still putting smiles on hundreds of thousands of rock fans a year
LONG LIVE ROCK AND ROLL, LONG LIVE STYX

If Larry thought/acted/behaved like Dennis,I do not think he would have been hired for the job.If that was so, they may just as well have stuck it out with Dennis, and been ordered around and told more or less how things were going to be .Froy, you don't get it do you ,Larry does not wanna be like, and nobody else wants him to be like Dennis .

I like their version of "Can't Find My Way Home" better than the original, but I like the House of Lords version better than Carrot Styx. I can't stand any version of the Walrus song - ACK!! I don't care for the Beatles music, way before my time (LOL)

Oh, please. A "current" Styx thread can't even be started here without it turning into a "Why I hate Styx/JY" thread. If you don't believe that to be true, prove me wrong...show me a 'current' Styx thread where it didn't happen. A Styx thread is not even worth starting. It only happens to your precious Dennis threads when I feel like a nut, and most times I don't, mostly.
