OT - Tribute Bands

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Sun Sep 18, 2005 9:31 pm

Has anyone seen a Tribute band? I think "Light Up" is the bestSTYX tribute band that I have ever seen/heard.

Doesn't matter where you live, what's out there - any band, any type of music.

Thanks :)

Saw Limehouse Lizzy a few weeks ago..........brilliant...... better than the "real" Lizzy that are going around. The "Phil Lynnot" guy has all the spirit of the man himself, and boy can those guitarists play

going to see Rainbow Rising soon, also seen "Austrailian Pink Floyd" WOW amazing
It is STYX it says so on Larrys keyboards

"Austrailian Pink Floyd"

They're coming back to Milwaukee, I'm planning to see this concert. I've heard so many good things about their concerts and I "heard" that they're bringing a pig or a pig something - LOL I'm not a Pink Floyd fan YET, I'm listening more to their music and learning about them. :)

Maybe I'll do the same with the Beatles music too - LOL

I like clones. You get them (often) in a bar, they play for fun and obviously are very dedicated to the material/band they are doing.I have seen AC/DC,Zep,Deep Purple clones and it was great for what it is.
Saw a Genesis tribute too, whose name escape me,but Suite mentioned them the other day,and they were phenomenal.Even Genesis approve of these guys ,from Quebec I believe. So Suite,by all means go.When I saw them they played 2 nights in a 400 seat theatre,(not sold out),but I am sure people were there 2 nights in a row. They are doing 'The Lambs lie down on Broadway' show here soon in a 1500 theatre in a month or so.
There are a lot of these bands around it seems ,so there must be people checking them out.
Yes ,I would really like to see the 'Light Up 'tribute.

gr8dane, within a year - LOL I'll send you the "Light Up" film that we taped. I think you'll be impressed with their version of "Suite Madame Blue".

I'm working on research on Tribute bands. I have a HUGE list, I was hoping that some people on the board have seen them.

"The Musical Box" is coming to the area. I'm hoping it works out to see them. I'm seeing Judas Priest and Rob Thomas around the same time. LOL I'm looking forward to seeing more music outside of STYX

:)

Classic,

It hasn't been announced yet. I thought early next year, you know me, I can't remember anything - LOL

Once it's announced, I'll let you know. We'll have to get tickets together.

I didn't "Google" yet, but what's up with the Pig and what do they do with it? I'll try to find that out a little later..............

I've been to the House of blues and seen Tribute band to AC/DC and Queen, loved AC/DC but not so keen on Queen, I'm gonna ask Darren if he remembers the bands name and report back

I have no idea what they sound like, but there is an 80's tribute band in the Houston area called Molly and the Ringwalds. I just love that name.

I heard an AC/DC tribute band called Thudwinker open for Styx a couple of summers ago. Not bad, not bad at all!

Here's a link to a great resource of tribute bands.
http://www.tributecity.com

There are some great ones and some duds. The benchmarks here in L.A. are Led Zepagain and The Atomic Punks. I play in a few myself as linked below.

Plenty of audio and video to peruse (the last 2 bands are currently on hiatus but hoping for a comeback!)

I saw Austrailin Pink Floyd in Madison last year. They are the best tribute band I have ever seen. Light Up is pretty good too. There is a Rush tribute band called Animation that plays one set and then takes requests for their second set. I once saw them in Chicago and the opening act was a lousy cover band all wearing bad wigs. The last song by the opening act was Rush's "I think I'm Going Bald". During the song they shook their heads till their wigs fell off and I realized they were actually the members of Animation. Cool stunt.

There are some pretty good KISS tribute bands out there. KISS is easy to do because you don't have to look anything like the band. Just put on the costumes and makeup and you have got it.

Ha,that reminds me way back, when I saw Dr.Hook in Copenhagen .Denmark was their best market or so then.Anyways ,they were playing ,but the warmup band was total shite and got booed of the stage. When Dr.Hook came back for there encore they came back dressed as the warmup band and everybody realized they had been had.
And we all laughed and laughed.
That also reminds me ,when I saw them a few years later they would play there encore in the nude.
It was ofcourse good to be a drummer then.
