You're Welcome Tommy

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Tue Sep 20, 2005 12:52 pm

Hi Tommy, I'm glad you read my post and changed Kevin's last name in your recent "Hello Friends" letter. Thanks, I feel better :)

Sorry if I was too hard on you with the teasing. I'm looking forward to the Shaw/Blades cd.

Take Care and I hope you catch up on that sleep we talked about.

Oh, by the way Tommy, I'd have to say this is still one of my favorite pictures of you :)

Okay, time to mix it up again

Where are you coming from Froy? It's all about money. Tommy's got a job. Denny's got a job. Even you have a job. I suppose Tommy could stay true to something (although I'm not sure what) and make less money. But what is the point in that? He could retire the STYX name and go out as something else. But why should he? as long as there are people willing to pay him for what he does, I see no reason to change. Denny hasn't retired the name either. He is still out there playing "the music of STYX". Is that somehow more noble?

Did Tommy "ruin a great band"? No, he just got rid of a bandmate that nobody could stand. None of the other members of the band or the organization wanted to work with Denny either. That is why Denny's staff now is made up of relatives. They can't refuse to work for him because of the family obligation.

If anyone "ruined a great band" I'd say it was Denny. He is the one that made the working situation impossible for everyone else.

Yea Dennis is doing 40 dates a year
He is doing shows with meaning and effort
Styx is doing 400 shows a year and there shows are budget at best
The setlists suck plain and simple but Shaw careless he wants the pay check. Look at the crowds going to see Styx/ Kansas they are getting smaller and smaller , Heck one show in the UK they drew 600 people in a 3000 seater, They are averaging about 900 to 1000 people at there shows, That stinks for a band with a new cd and 6 years of non stop touring, They are not gaining fans they are losing them.

Did Tommy "ruin a great band"?

No doubt about it
Bringing in Gowan was the worst idea of them all
They should have just dropped all Dennis material and played only Shaw and Young songs in concert. They have scorched the name STYX nobody wants to hear Styx music anymore its burned out so bad thanks to Shaw and Young,

No, he just got rid of a bandmate that nobody could stand.

Is that how it works just get rid of a guy who helped make you what you are today, Shows just how much of an ass he is.

None of the other members of the band or the organization wanted to work with Denny either.

Sorry that is not true
Chuck was with Dennis in 99 he had no issues with Dennis
He just took the easy road and followed the crowd
He has no balls that guy.

That is why Denny's staff now is made up of relatives. They can't refuse to work for him because of the family obligation.

Really not a single band member is in his family

If anyone "ruined a great band" I'd say it was Denny. He is the one that made the working situation impossible for everyone else.

Right it was only impossible when they needed a reason to get going on 400 shows a year which no sane man would want to do
Look at Burtnick he could not even stand it
So he was pushed out also.
At least you admit the band is ruined,

Man, Froy’s office must be a real party. Hi kids. You KNEW I'd jump in, didn't you?

Yes, Dennis is doing 40 dates a year. I personally suspect the fire that finally got up under his ass was the touring Styx was doing WITHOUT him. Japan, Europe, 2 Superbowls, a number of TV appearances, etc. I think that kind of competition kinda fired him up.

Froy implies Styx is doing shows WITHOUT meaning and effort, which is ignorant. The production has constantly been evolving, and the energy has been consistently powerful. I understand your opinion, Froy, but it’s SO skewed it doesn’t even count.

FROY: “Bringing in Gowan was the worst idea of them all
They should have just dropped all Dennis material and played only Shaw and Young songs in concert. They have scorched the name STYX nobody wants to hear Styx music anymore its burned out so bad thanks to Shaw and Young”

Hmmm. Let’s make believe it’s 1991 and I could say ‘Bringing in Burtnik was the worst idea of them all. Dennis should have just dropped all Shaw material and played only Dennis and Young songs in concert. Dennis has scorched the name STYX. Nobody wants to hear Styx music anymore as exemplified by the album sales of EOTC. They’re burned out so bad thanks to Dennis’

FROY: not a single band member is in his family
ADAM: Okay, but who’s running lights? Who’s singing backup? Show Me The Way? That must be some roadies dressed in drag up there…

FROY: Chuck was with Dennis in 99 he had no issues with Dennis
ADAM: How do you know? You think Chuck woke up one day and decided he just felt like being MEAN to his old bandmate?

FROY: He has no balls that guy.
ADAM: Said Froy on Chuck’s birthday. Froy also calls him a Traitor. So Happy birthday to the HIV+ Traitor without balls.

You know, having read all these bash the carrot threads, Tommy sucks and JY is the devil stuff makes me wonder, where is the bash Chuck threads. He is still very much a part of this line up of Styx, he still tours with them in a limited way. He still appears on the new CD's. He has been outspokn enough over the current situation to make it obvious that he sides with the Tommy and JY. He was present at the meetings when Dennis was ousted. So where's the hatred toward Chuck that many constantly spew at Tommy and JY? Are you scared to call him your silly names because of his health problems, or does it hurt your stand on the current situation to mention that 3 of the 4 living original members perfer the way things are now? Just wondering, I guess HATE can be a personal choice as can irrational bashing toward people who's shoes you've never walked in.

(please ignore spelling mistakes I'm typing in a hurry and don't have time to spell check.)

How dare all of you wreck my "Tommy" thread!! LOL

Bringing in Gowan was the worst idea of them all

No matter who they brought in, it wouldn't have made a lot of "us" DeYoungians happy. It's what and how it happened (see previous 15 pages of topics - LOL). I personally don't care what Gowan sings, I just don't care for his singing at all (see previous 15 pages of posts). I do know that my feelings sure would've been torn if they did bring in Rik Emmett. Thank goodness that didn't work out :)

They should have just dropped all Dennis material and played only Shaw and Young songs in concert.

See, if I'm not mistaken, they, the current line-up, HAVE to keep certain songs in. Just my opinion until I get the facts!!

The situation was completely different. Tommy wasn't kicked out of a band that he co-founded. No, they weren't burned out due to Dennis, not at all, IMO.

FROY: Chuck was with Dennis in 99 he had no issues with Dennis
ADAM: How do you know? You think Chuck woke up one day and decided he just felt like being MEAN to his old bandmate?

I'm sure during that time (the decision to kick Dennis out) Chuck was looking out for himself and what was the best situation for him (Chuck).

Things all changed when the band STYX became a business and especially in 1979, that's when all the major changes within the band happened.

Dennis should have just dropped all Shaw material and played only Dennis and Young songs in concert.

Nobody wants to hear Styx music anymore as exemplified by the album sales of EOTC. They’re burned out so bad thanks to Dennis’

I don't know if Adam has seen Styx lately, but yes, as a matter of fact, almost all of those songs mentioned are being played in a medley at every Styx show. When I saw Dennis this summer, the only one he played live was Castle Walls.

Beware Angiekay! You are entering a dimension not only of words and ideas but of mindlessness. There's a signpost up ahead youre entering the Froy Zone, where nothing matters except this one rude, classless guy's incessant whining over a divorce that's over half a decade old. I don't know if I should do this, but I guess I will jump in.
As a casual STYX fan nowadays, I have only seen the band once in recent years. That (of course) was The Main Event Tour. That show was my introduction to Lawerence Gowan and (while I was familiar with him) Glen Burtnik. I really enjoyed the show. I thought Lawerence was very 'theatrical'. I thought Glen was incredible for the band...all the energy and crowd interaction. Glen looked out of place but brought a lot to the show. I wasn't sure how STYX would do, but after going through the whole Journey thing, I knew I would give them an open mind. And STYX entertained.

I would say that is probably the general consensus of the casual fan...it's about the music.

Having gone through similar issues with Journey, I say it is FOOLISH to think STYX should drop the majority of STYX hits simply because DDY is no longer with them. The show is for STYX fans, and they want to hear STYX hits.

And for the record, I always thought DDY was treated worse than Perry.

I'd rather hear these songs in their entirety, not with the medley. I've been to a couple Carrot Styx shows and a lot of people, die-hard fans and casual STYX fans want to the whole songs, not just little teasers. I personally don't want to be teased, I want the real thing

I personally think they should re-vamp their set-list, especially since their on the never-ending tour and hitting so many cities that are close to each other and also re-visiting the same cities over and over and over. It's getting old. There are so many songs from the STYX catalog that they can play.

Since the BBT came and went, I can put a LOT of money that when they start the next tour, probably after their little Christmas break, they'll start playing some more "older" songs and they WILL re-vamp the whole set list.

Monkey see, monkey do

As for Dennis, I'm sure he'll be adding some songs when he returns to the same areas next year and he'll be re-vamping his set list, just a hunch. I wouldn't be surprised if he added "Don't Wait For Heroes", "I'm Okay" and let's see, maybe "Lords of the Ring", that one I'm not sure about.

I personally really, really, really want to hear "Born For Adventure" live, by Dennis. That one I really, really, really have to hear live in concert!!!

And it goes back to who are you trying to please when you step on that stage.

The band will need to continue to play certain songs (whether in their entirety or in medley form), just as Dennis will. If they have new material out, they'll put some material from that in.

They've eached change their set lists somewhat, but, by and large, each is a nostalgia act and recognizes what the people want to hear who attend their concerts.

We the diehards...well that's what cd's and boots are for
