STYX songs on the radio

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Fri Sep 23, 2005 7:51 am

I just heard "Light Up" on the radio coming home. I can't remember the last time I heard that song playing on the radio.

The usual STYX songs that are played here on various radio stations are:

Come Sail Away
Babe - light station
Don't Let It End
Rockin' The Paradise - it's nice to hear that one on the radio
Grand Illusion
Mr. Roboto - played a lot on the MIX station
Lady - my all time favorite

Those I heard in the last few months.

I wished we still streamed. Our radio station plays:

Come Sail Away
Renegade
Fooling Yourself
Lady
Lorelei
Blue Collar Man
Grand Illusion
Too Much Time on My Hands
Rockin' The Paradise
Best of Times
Snowblind
Crystal Ball
Suite Madam Blue
Queen Of Spades
I Am The Walrus
I Don't Need No Doctor

At the time Cyclorama came out we also played

Everything is Cool and These Are The Times

Yep, I hear all of those too, except Queen of Spades. Frankly, I don't see those as 'deep cuts' at all.

Our radio stations suck, in terms of playing Styx:

Crystal Ball
Renegade
Come Sail Away
Blue Collar Man
Grand Illusion
Fooling Yourself

And that's about it, sad to say. Once in a great while you might catch Lorelei, Lady, or Too Much Time On My Hands. I can't even begin to speculate how many years it's been since I've heard Roboto on the radio. I think I've heard Babe once in the last few years or so. Ironic, considering those two songs charted much higher than the others (I think).

We get (depending on which station you listen to):

Come Sail Away
Foolin Yourself
TMTOMH
Best of Times
Babe
Lady
Grand Illusion
Mr. Roboto
I am the Walrus

And I kid you not, I heard about a month ago

Paradise

totally startled me to hear that on the radio

In my market

Suite Madame Blue
Queen of Spades
Snowblind
and the BBT cuts would all be deep compared to what we usually get.

1.Lady: once in a while..
2.Suite Madame Blue: see above
3.Crystal Ball: been a while, but I used to hear it.
4.Come Sail Away: need I really comment
5.Fooling Yourself: actually, this one gets tons of airplay..
6.Grand Illusion: see 1 & 2
7.Blue Collar Man: tons
8.Renegade: tons
9.Babe: all of the picking you up, and making you feel good at work stations..
10.Too Much Time: I used to hear this one, but not for a while..
11.Show Me The Way: another one that faded, but used to be a staple on.. you guessed it(see number 9).

Believe it or not, I did hear "Number One" when "Brave New World" was new..

I will also tell you that I've never once heard "Don't Let It End" on the radio..

The stations in my area would never be interesting enough to play more obscure favorites like "Snowblind" or "Rockin' The Paradise"..

Awww, this purple chick wouldn't do well in cheeseland! ;) I have a couple friends in Madison who were in radio, don't know if they are there anymore. Audrey Phillips and Brian Wheeler. Ring any bells?

See, those are two songs you would never EVER hear on our station. Way too soft and pop-y for our classic rock programer, although one of the guys who used to help consult us for a while worked as an assistant program director for KQRS the number one radio station in MN and they play Babe from time to time, but it just doesn't seem to fit our format.

I don't know from radio anymore. NEVER listen in my vehicle -- CD's only. So I have no idea what any of the stations in the Houston/Austin area play.

Very seldom I listen to the music radio stations in the Seattle area. They play the same songs over and over. Classic rock station claims they have the largest classic rock music in the Puget Sound but it seems they play the same songs everyday.

I mostly listen to ESPN radio or sometimes talk radio.

Aight, this my attempt at programming my first hour at a classic rock station:

1) Nazareth - When The Light Comes Down
2) Triumph - Fight The Good Fight
3) Styx - One With Everything
4) Queen -- Ogre Battle (Homemade "Cyclops Stomp" Version)
5) Judas Priest -- Tyrant (w/ prelude)
6) Seventh Key -- The Sun Will Rise
7) Edguy -- The Piper Never Dies
8) Journey -- Out of Harms Way

Got whiplash yet? :P

No PDs, no payola, no sassafrassin' ... just let the inmates run the asylum, dammit!! ;)

Sy, you and me and your other 5 or 6 listeners would really enjoy your station ! the other great thing about it would be that it would be commercial free....cus no one would advertise on your station.

a sad commentary on the musical taste of the general public, isn't it ?

Sy, I will see your Triumph, but swap you out a Styx "Born for Adventure" for that "One With Everything".

Not familiar with your others, however, so they can stay! 8)

Back in the day, we had a great radio station in Houston who came close to that kind of programming. Of course, it is long gone. Thus my "own" programming with CD's.

Angie says:

I'm pretty sure Brian was at the Carrot Styx show at Summerfest this past summer. If it's the same one (which I think it is), he was with a fellow dj, but I didn't get her name. Angie, does Jeff Lynn sound familiar to you? Not the guy from ELO. He's one of the program director's here in Milwaukee.

I'll have to add to the Milwaukee recent songs:

Too Much Time On My Hands
Renegade

Nope, I can't say it does. I can't remember if Brian is still in radio or not. If not, I'm sure he still knows a lot of people that are.

Because it would be on XM or Sirius! :P

Commercials?!?! Vee dun't need no steenkin' commercials ... :D

I could cuss, too:

"Sy here digging thru the vault. Pulled this motherf---ker out of the cobwebs so give it a loud crank -- it's Steppenwolf's 'Don't Step On The Grass, Sam' on THE PEOPLE'S ROCK!"

That's how I used to ShoutCast. ;)
