Explain the meaning of your screen mane

Postby classicstyxfan » Tue Oct 18, 2005 12:36 pm

OK, since we're kind of in a Styx/DDY lull here, I would be interested in the story behind the names people have chosen to post under here.

Mine was very unimaginative, but I was compelled to comment on one thing or another with my 1st post, and frankly, didnt put a great deal of thought into it......had I know that 1700 plus posts late I would still be here, I would have tried harder. Still, Classic Styx ( which to me is Equinox thru Pieces of Eight ) is what I love, the rest is at al ower level, so I guess it does make a statement about me.

What About "Froy" ??? "Bugsy Malone" ? and all the others ? ther are stories there methinks....spill em !!!!!!

Example = D. J. and STYX = DeeJaySTYX..... 8)

Well, mine is pretty obvious as well. Journey is my favorite band. I joined AOL and the Journey forum early on. I was 27 at the time so I started as jrnyman27, but my account was frozen or deleted (I really don't remember now). So I started a new one, when I was 28. Hence, jrnyman28. It's been a lot of years...this is me!

with the necessary apologies to your husband, when I think of the name Sadie and music, my mind will always immediately go to the Beatles song Sexy Sadie off the Beatles White album........

and here's some trivia for you Beatles fans out there....the song was actually about John's disillusionment regarding the Beatles dealings/time with the Mahariji

Sexy Sadie ( Mahariji )....what have you done ?
You've made a fool of everyone.......

But I digress........and now, back to our originaly scheduled topic.

Well thanks for the trivia lesson. I think of something else when I think of Sadie...but I'll keep it to myself since I know it would confirm total geekhood upon me. Mr. Sadie would be fine with it btw.

GREAT thread Classic :)

Yes, Froy, tell us about your name 8)

My nickname in high school was "Lorelei" because I was a huge STYX fanatic - LOL

I was going to go with that one, but instead picked SuiteMadameBlue because the name and song to me sounds a little mysterious. I know it was about the Bicentennial, but it sounds like me. I love how he says "lips" in the song. I get chills. Oh, and I'm also "sweet" too - LOL Just kidding.

Time after time
I sit and I wait for your call
I know I'm a fool
But what can I say
Whatever the price I'll pay
For you Madame Blue

Once long ago
A word from your lips and the world turned around
But somehow you've changed
You're so far away
I long for the past and dream of the day
With you Madame Blue

I think I've mentioned it before, but my screen name is a chrostic of the first initials of my family (dogs included). It used to be swwsk, but then we got Jake so now its swwskj. Obviously I'm the first 'S', scott and I think Bugsy may be the only person who knows the rest...Maybe.

For some reason my screen name leads people to believe that I either studder or am polish. Of which, I'm neither.

Sadie, after I got your signed note and realized you weren't actually a Sadie, figuring out your screen name kinda fell into place. Not that it was hidden Da Vinci Code style in the first place. Now ClassicStyxFan was a tough nut to crack.....

My screen name comes from what was my great passion in the 70's and 80's -- raising and showing horses.

I had a really great horse who had a number of nicknames, one of which was Bugsy Malone, a play on her name and also the movie that came out way back then.

So I used Bugsymalone as my screen name, shortened to "Bugsy" or "Bugs" sometimes.

My avatar comes straight out of the Classic Styx era -- my other "passion" -- the music of Classic Styx.

There you have it!

HALTUNG!!!!!
Froy,I hate spoil the pardy. But your spelling (or missspelling ) has caught up with you again.
Froyline is actually 'fraulein',which is German for miss or misses or one of them.
Time to change your nametag.

Well,my tag was also brought up before in a sling fest with Sadie.
Anyways.I am Danish and maybe not so gr8.
I like the dog, but would not like cleaning up after it.

"Zan" is short for Suzanne - a name which stuck after co-workers started calling me and my other co-worker, Suzette, "Zan & Zet."

I have rarely talked about how I chose my nick. Once in a while I will do a web search to see what is out there for "Monker". A couple of them are fairly interesting.

It seems a few years ago some software company developed some childrens learning software. The main character that 'teaches' in the program is named "Monker". He is described as, "A cute little blue guy in a lab coat." That does not exactly describe me. Do not know if I am considered 'cute', probably not. I am not blue. In my opinion, I'm not 'little'. And, I do not walk about in a lab coat. So, this isn't me. I also think I used "Monker" as my nick before this software existed.

My favorite meaning comes from Islamic lore. Monker (or Munkar) is a dark (or fallen) angel or demon. He is one of two dark angels who interrogate the deal while they are still a recently deceased corpse. If the person answers the questions correctly he is allowed to rest in peace. If, on the other hand, the person fails to answer correctly, he is tortured in the grave until his final damnation on judgment day. If you actually care to read a bit about this...you can read a bit about Islamic beliefs about death and judgment here: http://www.geocities.com/khola_mon/myth/Mythic.html

And, no, I am no believer in Islam and my nick is just a coincidence...But, I do find it an interesting coincidence..and I know a few people probably feel the shoe fits!

I also found another guy out there using my nick...He has some kind of Jeep fetish. Not that this is a bad thing...I have thought about buying one myself. It would be nice to have during the winter months.

The true story is much more incidental.

I used several nicks prior to Monker. The first nick I ever used was JrnyFan. I then switched to Renegade because, at that time, some of my opinions: of Steve Perry, Raised On Radio, and my opinion that Journey should move on without Perry; were very much in the minority. But, I felt like I was right and I spoke like I felt...So, I felt like a bit of a Renegade, and hey, I like the song too!

But, there came a time when I wanted something new...something totally unrelated to Journey, Perry, Styx, or music in general. I was at my sister's house one day, I think it was for a birthday party for my niece or nephew. Anyway, I was playing with my niece, who was around four at that time. She got mad at me for some reason and looked at me and said, "You're a monker!" "What?", I asked. My sister was kind of laughing and said, "She's trying to call you a 'monster'."

So, there you have it. I'm a monster! LOL

Mine is straight from a song (and the best way to listen to music as well in my opinion) - I was in an F' You mood one day and the words just seemed to fit

"No way to recall
What it was that you had said to me,
Like I care at all.

But it was so loud.
You sure could yell.
You took a stand on every little thing
And so loud."

...from Eulogy by Tool

EK,

Nice to meet another '88 H.S. grad.

Sadie,

I didn't see your post about your wedding here before I posted about your wedding in another thread. Actually I was the same age as you were when I got married (21). I wasn't a child groom, but my wife was a 'having a child' bride. Does that count? Doh! Really put a crimp in my frat parties, I can tell you that.

Yes well...those hormones will get you every time. Mr. Sadie and I were both 21 when we married...without the "child bride" aspect. Sadie son didn't come along for another 11 years .

I guess mine looks self explanatory, not my favorite Styx song by far. I think after viewing as a guest, I wanted to post in so fast, I panicked on a nickname and having just drank a bottle of merlot with the wife, I through in "da ring" instead of "the ring". Besides I think Roboto was taken. Nice posts.
