Well -- for one, that you can produce music with melody, harmony, intelligent lyrics, and more than 3 chords. Oops... that's more than one! :)

Forget the record sales, name one other band that had so many wonderful optimistic songs that transcend over generations

STYX

If you grew up in the era of the Beatles, how could you not be influenced?

So many top songs, that permeated societal ranks.

It was the strength of the songwriting, the harmonies, the musicianship, and the various approaches in the band.

All said, even they were found to grow in different directions as they grew up.

I just recently watched the Anthology series (yep all 8 tapes) again. Something else that always just blows me away about these guys, regardless if it be in concert, song writing, singing or anything is how it all seemed so easy to them. Their effect on the mass public will be something that will never happen again, blowing even Elvis away.

Mike - I am one of the few on the planet who puts STYX up in that same elite league. I think the big difference is how it took STYX a bit longer to catch on (wooden nickle era), but once they kicked it up a notch (IMO Equinox through Paradise), they were the best band in the world at that time.

Sadie - yep we gotta let them listen (for the most part) to what they want, funny I think they all tend to come around and listen to some of our stuff eventually. I blew off Elvis (who my mother worshipped) well past his death. I had to rediscover some of his better stuff and like it on my own: Suspicious Minds, Burning Love, Latest Flame, Jailhouse Rock, etc.
His concert he did in Hawaii, which they show from time to time on MTV from the early 70s is the king at his best.

Suite - I don't recall that 1990 story, how did that come about...you speechless??? c'mon....lol

LOL, yes, if fact I think that was the only time in my life where I was speechless and couldn't find words. I've been a STYX fan since I was 7 and in 1990 was the "First Time", (gosh I love that song) that I met Dennis and JY. It was a cd signing at a record riot, no one was at there table at the time. My brother and I were able to sit and talk to them for a while. My brother had to do my talking since I couldn't talk at all - LOL He still thinks that was so funny. Dennis made fun of my old albums, they were duct taped since they were over played. I still have them, signed and everything. I was never shy again after that day. LOL I don't ever want to miss an opportunity like that ever again and not say anything.
