Best Styx songs:As in STYX.

Queen of spades
I'm OK

Snowblind.

Good song choices.

Sure, Dennis has the edge. But the collaborations make the grand picture as in Dennis is/was not Styx.
And no TS is/was not Styx either. But BCM,and Renegade were massive compared to DDY's hit run from this album.
Scuse me,this is a 6 pint ramble ,but at least i know what i think i am talking about.

Gr8dane, I really think you're a great guy, but I think you just took the cake in babbling from me - LOL I'm just kidding.

I think I understand what your saying. I agree that the collaborations make the grand picture, that's what I totally understand :)

How much is 6 pints? LOL

NO DOUBT it is Dennis Deyoung. But because of people like you it makes me almost glad Dennis is no longer in the band. Its almost embarrassing thinking I like some of the same music that you do.

One day and one day very soon you will take back those words Yogi
Believe me when I tell you
I have something in the pipeline that you will one day see and when you do your going to say yea Froy I have always liked everything he has.

Over in the "other" board, there is a fight as well, but under different circumstances.

Perry LEFT that band...here DDY was ..let me get this straight, "kicked out?"

If I am right, and I am Dennis DeYoung, in NO WAY do I ever take a phone call from those clowns...

so tell me, am I right on my assumption?

Yep Rockin Dennis was sandbagged right out of his own band
He played a Childrens Miracle network show with the band and right behind his back slime Jim and slime Tom were on the phone with slime Gowan getting ready to dump Dennis.
Yes Perry pretty much quit and then gave the crack stone BS
But they waited 2 years for him
Jim and Tom waited 5 minuets for Dennis and they are still burning the name Styx out I wish Dennis would slap a lawsuit on these jerks for totally killing STYX

But all ten members have had an influence on the band overall.

No all 10 members did not have an influence on the band

First off Gowan has had no influence at all except he's flying on 5 cans of red bull every show.

Rickie Phillips forget it.

Even Chuck Panazzo has had no influence on the band he has no distinctive sound like other bass players and he does not sing.

Todd is a great guy but no influence once again other then he filled in for John.

I would also say that if you played a song like Babe, asked 100 off the street 14 year olds who sang it, you might get 5 who would get to Styx and 1 that would get to Dennis. So much for "his voice being one of the most recognizable in the music world today".

Yea they would say Styx but Dennis made Styx so its one in the same.
Same question walk down the street and say Dennis Deyoung and say Gowan I bet nobody answers to Gowan.

On the other hand, ask them about who the lead singer of STYX is and you might get 5 to say Tommy or Larry.

Or you might get a homeless guy who throws up all over you so don't even ask.

Actually Gowan was already on board during that performance, Dennis was kicked out but wanted to still perform for the CMN as promised. I still can't imagine what was going through all their minds during that performance.

First off Gowan has had no influence at all except he's flying on 5 cans of red bull every show.

ROTFL!! When the 5th can hits, the keyboard spins faster and faster.

Does anyone really like the spinning keyboard? Seriously?

I never heard of a shooter before, well alcohol terminology.
6 pints???????? And you're still typing and reading? Wow

Thank you and I wanted to tell you, that have the best accent!!! :)

I know, I don't think anyone is really on the same page with me when it comes to Styx and the whole soap opera of it. There are days when I come very close to crossing the fence, but then I take a look at the whole picture again of what happened and then stay on my side.

OK,it may sound more than it really is.But a few always make me ahh somewhat comfortable. And then I have a few more and i slump and turn into an imbecile.Ofcourse to some people I already was ,even before anything, but isn't that always the case.
Anyways, for JY not wanting to be part of a DDY Styx thingie,Dennis really must have done something to piss JY off,.Wouldn't you think so??
What is it that makes JY not wanting to work with Mr.D again. That still is the thing that irks me again and again.WHAT exactly is it??? :?:

Oh, it's fun to watch him for short periods of time during Styx shows. I'm sure it would get old if I zoned in on it for the whole show. But it's no different driving down the freeway. I'd go bonkers if I just stared at all those spinning tires! But I'm certainly not going to quit driving or encourage other people to stop driving just because spinning objects are bothersome

What kind of “significance” are we talking about anyway? In terms of hits, I guess you could say Dennis. Of course, in terms of grief and animosity, I guess you could say Dennis too. Then again, if we’re talking about stage presence, entertainment value, my money’s on Tommy. Or, if we’re speaking in current decades, Glen Burtnik. Moreover, if it’s sheer technical or raw talent we’re talking about, I gotta go with Todd or JY (who could also qualify for the most significant in keeping the band from falling apart from the get-go) with Gowan somewhere between the two (entertainer and technical talent). Although, that brings us to Chuck, whose presence these days represents so much more than it ever has, and usually leaves the true Styx fan feeling inspired.

Aww shucks...But nah, just hate misleading questions. *g*

"Significance" is in the eye of beholder, and while I can't deny Dennis' impact on Styx's wallet (that could go either way, incidentally), I, myself, have not been as impacted by his music as many others here have. if it weren't for Tommy, I would have never even started listening to Styx in the first place. Does that make him more significant? I guess in MY eyes, it does. Was I more happy to learn that Glen would be on the 1999 tour than I was unhappy that Dennis wouldn't be? yeah. Does that make HIM more significant? To me, yeah. But I seriously doubt those were the kinds of answers Darwin was looking for.

Ok... thanks for voting.

It's great to see that we pretty much all agree that Dennis DeYoung was the most significant member of Styx and by in large was the reason the band become one of the most succesful bands of the late 70s / early 80s.

Several other good points were made:

- Dennis is the most recognizable member to the public

- Dennis' songs are the most popular

- Dennis wrote the vast majority of their hits

- Dennis has great hair

A new question will follow shortly...
