25 years...

Postby Zan » Fri Dec 09, 2005 1:37 am

It was 25 years ago today that John Lennon was assassinated in front of his home in New York City. John was an unusual man but an irreplacable artist and musician, and he is still mourned by his fans everywhere.

Five years ago, I had the privilege of being in Strawberry Fields in Central Park on the 20th anniversary of Mr. Lennon's death, and I have to say it ranks up there with some of the most inspiring experiences of my life. Thousands of Lennon fans holding candles and singing Beatles songs in unison. Then it started to snow. Amazing.

Rest in peace, John. We miss you!

Man, I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news......

I often wonder about both the music he would have gone on to make and the difference he would have made in the world had he not been taken from us. I know it would be a better world if he were still with us.

Thanks for posting that remembrance, Zan. I got to visit the the Strawberry Fields memorial with Suite and it was a nice memory to take away with me from a wonderful trip to NYC.

John was just beginning a positive upswing in his life when it was taken away from him so suddenly and brutally.

He has left us with indelible memories and timeless music.

I was 15, in the hospital in traction and it was late. A message came across the tv that said he had been killed. I had a friend who truly idolized Mr. Lennon. I immediately wrote him a letter to explain that I was very sad for his loss. I always found it interesting that I equated Mr. Lennon's death with one particular friend, as surely I knew then that the world had lost a talent and spirit that it didn't need to.

I've never been a Lennon fan or cared for his music outside of the Beatles, but no one can deny the impact he left on his fans and the world of music.

He's remembered.

Zan, very nice post and thread.

I was 14 and had the radio on when I heard about it in my bedroom. I can't remember the song being played at the time, but I do remember they did cut right into that song to announce the news.

Yes, Bugsy and I visited Central Park last year and also walked past his building. Very sad feeling when we were there.
