I think Steve Augeri sounds better singing stuff from Arrival and Generations, doesn't sound as forced as some of the classics (such as Ask The Lonely 2001 DVD).
I really don't think Perry HAS a falsetto, does he? I've never really heard it. It's almost like his "passagio" into the higher registers was so smooth, it was non-existent! Technically though, it almost had to have been a falsetto, but the reality is that the transition was so smooth, it was undetectable.
I have to marvel at how full his voice sounded on songs like "Lay It Down." Absolutely beautiful to hear!
Jeremey: The interview was interesting. I thought the same thing about Perry's understanding of the passage of time. He's not getting younger. None of us are and if the push was really there for him to sing more, he would be.
There were a number of comments that could be taken a varieyt of ways and I haven't read all the posts in this thread to know what everyone else thinks or even if this particular point was discussed...when he says that he didn't want to become a parody of himself, I choose to take it to mean that he was only referring to himself and not casting aspersions on today's Journey. However, the way he blames them numerous times throughout the interview for the fact that they went on without him says a lot too.
Now, if the shoe was on the other foot and it was Neal making some of those statements, I'm sure some would come out of the woodwork ready to kill Neal, like some seem wont to do with Perry.
Look, we all have our perspective about life and the things that have happened to us in it. Others who shared situations with us might even see things differently. Who cares?
What matters to me is that Journey is happy and - cheese and crackers - I sure hope Steve Perry is, but unfortunately, he still seems so filled with a terrible amount of angst. Sad really.
