Dr. Righteous Video

Postby styxfanNH » Sun Dec 25, 2005 3:00 pm

VH1 Classic played the Dr. Righteous/Heavy Metal Poisoning video at 11:55. Another Christmas present dropped right in front of me. Preceding it was Girl with Guns and a song from Triumph.

I can't remember the last time I saw the Dr. Righteous video.

Extra note: They played Tommy Shaw's Girl's With Guns twice yesterday on VH1Classic. They also played Damn Yankees "Don't Tread on Me." The DY video is quite rare.

I can't remember which song. I was so surprised to see Dr. Righteous, I just remembered that they were sandwiched between Tommy and Styx as I walked into the room.

Froy, did he play that song in Chicago/HOB???

From what I'm understanding, Rik "might" be playing the same type of "Lost Treasures" show too, maybe!!

I have a hunch, there will be more Rik and Dennis dates being posted in a few weeks, unbelievable, I still can't believe it

When I saw Triumph in the 80's I thought they played that song. I'll have to go through my old Triumph box of stuff and see if I have an old set list.

Heavy Metal Poisoning

Postby jimmy19029 » Wed Dec 28, 2005 7:01 am

I was pulled over for speeding in November 1984 on my way to college when I first heard Girls With Guns on the radio. Then I read an interview with Tommy who said HE was pulled over for speeding TOO while listening to it on a tape around the time he'd first recorded it. What was even weirder was it was several miles down the road from where I used to live in Michigan.
Triumph's awesome! Saw them in 1986 before Rik left. Saw Rik solo 3 years ago in a small club. GREAT SHOW!

I saw them on the Sport of Kings Tour in 1986 and was disappointed that they didn't do Hold On. Later, I read that Emmett didn't really like that one and had only been pressured by the record company to include it on the live album, Stages. When I saw him solo in 2002 he did sing it. Guess he change his mind...

I love Triumph. I saw them at the World Series of Rock (along with Quarterflash, .38 Special, Loverboy and Foreigner) and I saw them another time. I have to find the ticket stub from when.

Thank you Jimmy, that was very nice of you to find that and post that for me!!! I really appreciate it!!

I'll never forget that day, we all skipped out of school. I left my camera in the car in fear that it was going to be taken away. That is the last day that I ever left my camera behind!! My friends and I made it to the front row of the concert at the stadium, I wish I had my camera -UGH I had a great time, too much of great time!! There was a picture of me in the Milwaukee Journal the day after, I was in a crowd shot - LOL I couldn't find my ticket stub, but I did find this, I shrunk it, it's a Triumph Patch and a Poloroid picture of Quarterflash that they took on stage and threw out to the crowd - LOL That was before Larry was doing that - LOL

Dr. Righteous Video

Postby jimmy19029 » Fri Dec 30, 2005 9:23 am

No problem. I love finding things like this. Did you attend the 1981 one too with REO, Blackfoot and April Wine?
I remember Rindy Ross doing the Polaroid pics too during Take A Picture, the title track of their second album, when they played here in Philly opening for Elton John that same year in July.
Skipped school, huh? My co-worker used to do that for shows too. He and his friends would make a day of it and go into town to restaurants before the show feeling all grown up smoking their cigarettes.
Our concert was at JFK Stadium(now long gone) on Saturday June 19th, 1982. I was in college by that time. My sister, Maureen, was in high school. It was her very first concert and she was going with her boyfriend. She was PSYCHED! She was in a different section than I was.
I showed up as Huey & the News were singing Hope You Love Me Like You Say I Do. My two friends, Greg & Phyllis, didn't show up for hours----right before Loverboy took the stage. Kinks were disappointing as they stuck mostly to their harder rockin' stuff eschewing the great variety of material they've recorded over the years. Their 90s(more varied) shows were MUCH BETTER. Foreigner had sound troubles and weren't terrible. But it was the worst show I've ever seen them play.

No I didn't. I was a Sophomore in HS and I know that I wasn't allowed to go to concerts in 81' or I was pretty much grounded. The next year I pretty much snuck to concerts (like I do today-LOL)

Yes, I only did that a few times. During the Brewers World Series and a few exams. I was lucky enough to talk my way through taking the exams over. Smoking-ACK, can't stand it!! I remember my friends smoking and feeling cool too - LOL

I would've loved to see Huey Lewis during that time. Have you seen them lately? If you have, how are their shows compared to back then?

Too bad about the Kinks and Foreigner. I'd like to see the new line-up of Foreigner, hopefully in 2006.

I saw the Kinks waaaay back in 1980, I want to say. It was just a kick-ass show. So much fun and high energy. My sister went with me and she was pregnant at the time. Her son has always LOVED rock music and I swear it was that infusion of the Kinks while he was still riding around in Mommy! :D
