INSPIRATION

Postby yogi » Wed Jan 11, 2006 2:39 am

On Seven Deadly Zens Tommy had an excellent song with the above title. Anyway, it seems like most of the songs written by Styx, and especially Dennis were inspired by someone or some type of event in their lives. My question is, that in Dennis case the source of much of his inspiration has been his family, led by his wife Suzanne. With that being the case who is Lorelei, and Jennifer and what inspired Dennis to write these songs??????
If they were real people involved in Dennis's life, I wonder what Suzanne thought?????

Yogi, when you see my little interview with Dennis he explains how he came up with the name "Lorelei". He needed a woman's name with 3 parts and he came up with "Lorelei", it's not named after anyone.

As for "Jennifer", I forgot to ask about this one. I'll add it to the list of more questions. I think I'm up to over 100 questions for Dennis - LOL

By the way, Do you know ALL the songs that were written for Suzanne????

Good questions
:)

Is 'Not Dead Yet' one of them?

There's a mugger in the alley
there's a sniper in the hall
there's a girl at the bar
wants to grab me by the balls

Um, Scott, I'm sorry but that song is a NO. The reason, it wasn't even written by Styx - LOL

Sorry no prize for you this round. Please try again :)

Anyway, back to the song, why would she want to grab them and then do what with them? I don't get it. Anyhoo, It's another song that hasn't been answered!!

Suzanne is the main inspiration for Dennis's writing ?

I thought Babe was about an earlier generation of movie pig

I once ran the web site for Tony Carey... so I got to know Tony on a better level than some.

All I can say is never read too much into an artists's lyrics or the names of things... because 9 times out of 10 they mean a whole lot more to you than it ever did to them.

Fans have been dissecting Pink World for 20 years now... and some of the things I've read have been far more intelligent than any explanation I heard Carey give. IMHO.

Have you ever considered the comedy circuit? No? Why not? Oh yeah... you'd starve.

Has Tommy ever talked about what inspired him to write this one? I've always had a theory on it, but anyone I've ever mentioned it to thinks I'm really reaching.. A lot of Styx songs have more than one meaning, though; or I guess are written so they could be interpreted a couple of different ways: "Snowblind", "Queen Of Spades", "Sing For The Day".

LOL! I was this way with the song Hysteria by Def Leppard. I connected with that song on such a deep level. What a letdown when I found out all they were trying to do was come up with words that rhymed and/or sounded well together. So much for my spiritual connection with Def Leppard as songwriters :D

I still like thinking of "Desert Moon" as a youthful romantic train trip from Illinois to the Indiana Dunes, like I first thought it was about. Not what Dennis actually wrote about. That song reminds me of a time when I went on a long train trip in Canada when I was in high school and the romance that I found...... ah those were the days!!! I love that song.
