Billy Joel set

I'm sure everyone is aware that Billy will begin touring in January, 2006. Already it's the hottest ticket and to say the least I am thrilled to be part of it. I believe this will represent a new chapter for Billy, a new beginning for Billy, the band, as well as the fans. The band is incredibly tight as we've rehearsed over 40 songs and put some new flavors into the mix. It looks like the band will be able to have Billy step up to the line and call the set from night to night. That will surely keep everyone on their toes and will make for lots of fun. I must say that Billy has pulled some of my favorites...even some songs that we've NEVER done before.

Wouldn't this be a great way for any band to perform a concert instead of the same old set every night?

I love Billy Joel and wish he'd announce a date in my hometown... so far no luck.

This sounds like a great show even without Liberty DeVitto on drums.

I would LOVE to see this show. I remember being very disappointed when Billy announced his "retirement" from pop music. I know he did the tour with Elton, but I don't care for Elton these days. But Billy should be great!

I definately like the idea of a band knowing all the songs and someone just choosing the songs as they go along. Spontineity!!

Mr Joel is an awesome showman, and what a catalog of songs to be able to pull from......

Bands who do 6 year tours ( like one we talk about a lot here...) would do well to follow this format. I for one would give up the "script" for a bit of spontinaity ( sic )

I bet tickets will cost a weeks pay though.

Elton used to be able to sing as well as play....sadly, he is a shadow of his former self in that capacity. But to those who still enjoy his show, I say more power to ya !

I see unless you live near the East of West Coast, or a ere willing to travel there ( OK , technically Phoenix and Vegas arent on the coast ) YOu arent going to get a crack at a Billy Joel show.

Billy always fills his dates in sporatically and will tour for a while once he gets going. I'll bet he adds dates soon. Most venues don't add shows during the holiday weeks. Tickets were $75 and I have tickets to two of the Boston shows. My 2nd favorite musician behind Styx. And he puts on a hell of a show.

Another great musician/performer that I blew an opportunity to see very early in his career. :cry:

I am still mad about that missed chance!

If there is a way for me to see him in concert this go-round, I may try.

He is one of the best songwriters ever -- The Stranger is a watershed album in my book.

huge billy joel fan here. then again, if you live on LI, it's a requirement. sorta like living in nj and being a springsteen fan.

he sold out 7 or 8 shows at the garden already. really want to go, but it's tough for us to get a babysitter. i wish he were playing the nassau coliseum instead- much closer to home. i hope he decides to add some shows there. i've only seen him 2 or 3 times live (once with elton john- one of the best shows ever, even if we did have crappy behind the stage seats).

if you ever get a chance, go to a billy joel show. he's one of the greatest performer/songwriters out there.

I agree 110%. One of the best concert I've ever been too. He is a great showman and sounds great! I hope he makes a swing through the upper midwest again!

Wow. What a great couple of set lists! Last time I saw him he didn't play Big Shot. I was really surprised. The song I would really LOVE to hear in concert is All About Soul. That has to be one of my all time favorite BJ songs. Thanks for the lists!

after 4 shows, the average set is 23 songs with only 14 songs being played all 4 shows. I hope Billy's recording the shows....

I didn't keep a tally, but I saw him sunday night, and he was great. He did lots of stuff I love, especially Goodnight saigon and Innocent Man (my favorite). A lot of the songs Mark mentioned were in the set as well. The show was about 2:20 long. I was particularly impressed with his spinning keyboards. ;-)

Thanks for the lists and reviews. My favorite Billy Joel songs are included in his encores, it seems -- Scenes From and Italian Restaurant (which I consider his masterpiece) and Only the Good Die Young.

Have you see him live Sadie ? everyonse should at least once if the opportunity arises...... I have seen his show twice, it is incredible.

The highlight for me is the song about Saigon, I think it is a brilliant song.
Of course, the hits are all good too.

No, unfortunately I've not had the pleasure. But I do have most of his material. Perhaps someday.

While I of course enjoy the hits, I think for most people here, deeper cuts tend to be the preference.

I was able to see him on the The Bridge tour and the River of Dreams tour. For ROD tour he pretty much dismantled his band he had kept together for the 70's and 80's, with the only long time player left being Liberty DeVitto. Sorry to hear he is not with this newest version of the band.

Zan, glad to hear that you went to the concert!!

I hope to see him in concert when he comes to my area, hopefully he'll add more concert dates soon for the Midwest.

I'm glad everyone recommends these great concerts. I never would've seen Paul McCartney if it wasn't for all the Beatles fans on here. A big thanks!!

I saw Billy in Baton Rouge during the mid 80's on the Innocent Man tour. Highlights of the show included Goodnight Saigon, with the lights of the Assembly Center going off and the sounds of the helicopters, the roadies all came out and sang the chorus...awesome. Also during big shot, BJ rolled around on top of the piano and ad libbed some lines about going to Pat Obriens and drinking a few hurricanes. Great show. He and his ex model wife were spotted at the Derwiener snitzle (spelling) later that night close to campus, very approachable.

As I am sure many of you know, yesterday Wilson Pickett passed away.

Billy played Midnight Hour as a tribute during the concert.

It was an amazing set. Going all the way back to '71 with Everybody Loves You Now.
