Cyclorama Bash

Postby DanMan » Fri Jan 20, 2006 2:00 pm

I figured I had better start a thread that hadn't been too overly done. I have noticed that a lot of these threads are about events....do any of them ever get hardcore....such as interpretations of songs.....or something like that.

ANYWAY....I needed to get this out. I think that the album Cyclorama is just a BASH on Dennis album. Don't get me wrong...I love the new Styx, and the old Styx. I just think that that was their purpose with the album....to shove it in DDY face.....

.....am I wrong?

Dan The Man,

As a newbie on this board, you can see that this is the most active section at melodic Rock.

Do yourself a favor and scan through and/or read the last 15-20 pages topics and go through some of the more active threads.

These last few topics have more than ben covered here. If you have something to add on one of those threads, feel free.

SFNH has stated this very well. The best approach to take to any message board, especially a long established one such as this one, is to read into a bit of the history. I know there are many, many threads here. And many that stray off topic, but it is still a good idea to get the lay of the land, in my estimation, and see what has already been covered extensively.

Wow, you guys are verging on making this place elitist...........personally, I think with the amount of archives we have amassed, it's not realistic for a newbie to go back and read it all before posting a topic. If I found a site like this, I might read a portion for entertainment value, but to read it all is like assigning war and peace as homework !!!!!

Dan Man, yes we have dissected Styx, and every Styx song and CD in most every way possible. Some of us old timers may be weary of certain topics, as we have beaten them to near-death status !

If you have the drive to go back and read all this stuff, by all means, have at it ! But I think to require newbies to read back threads before suggesting a topic is a bit over the top !

Oh, and on topic, IMO even if select songs we not written specifically aimed at Dennis ( KYAG, and KTTTYL come to mind ) I surmise that TS and JY enjoyed the multiple interpretation possibilities privatley !!!

I think to be fair, the question seems genuine.

I think perhaps some songs were included with an agenda. The agenda being subject to endless speculation and interpretation. Since many of us here have debated, picked apart, and argued this and various other topics for the last several years, we are indeed rather battle weary.

I hope you can understand the reluctance to go down a road that never seems to have a destination we can all agree on.

Oh and welcome.

Well Thanks Everyone that said welcome....as for the rest of you I almost wat to tell you to KYAG (cyclorama)....no not really.

YES I am a newbie....I'm only 18....give me a break. I haven't had a whole lot of time to go through the old stuff. Sorry for bringing up an obviously overdone subject.

Styx just needs something NEW...not just concerts or special appearances. I think that they need LOTS of NEW MUSIC. Thats all.

well there is my two cents also.

OK, ok! I have been well chastised.....Classic! LOL! I guess I was thinking of myself here, and checking to see what may have been discussed at length before posting on a board. Far be it from me to be ELITIST!!!

You are right, though. This is a board with a LOT of posts and a lot of history.
I think perhaps some songs were included with an agenda. The agenda being subject to endless speculation and interpretation. Since many of us here have debated, picked apart, and argued this and various other topics for the last several years, we are indeed rather battle weary.

I guess I was thinking in terms of how often this has been argued, and re-argued, with neither "side" being convinced by the other. I agree with Sadie. There was an agenda on this album and it is subject to interpretation as to exactly what it was.

I think it is way too far down the road to go back over it though. Again...MY opinion!

OK, back to my elitist limo to think of some more "inside baseball" things to post. :D

are any of us elitists? its good practice to scan through some not all of the topics and see if a topic has been discussed.

always good to wander in, get a feel for the board then add your 2 cents.

I think that we all agree that the cd had an agenda, but disagree on what it was. Some will say it was to make personal shots at Dennis, others will say that it was to prove that they could succeed without Dennis.

I believe it was a bit of both. But the guys will never admit that publicly.

If you want to see how hardcore this board can get, go back to posts that started in the summer. I think many of us are still recovering.

Welcome to the BB Dan. The members haere are some of the best versed peeps you will find about the band and we can answer just about any question you might wonder about. Those on this board are full of opinions and you just have to take a while to understand where everybody comes from.

Lost in the middle of all this is my welcome to the board, Dan. Sorry. I think it was lost in the shuffle. That, and when it was decided I was NOT an elitist after all and I got thrown out of the limo. :P

Amen. I feel exactly the same way. I loved Cyclorama and wish they had already put out an another album of all new material. And for the record, I personally don't think Cyclorama was a "bash Dennis" CD, but that's just my opinion and certainly not fact.
