OT Name Top 3 songs by anyone...

Postby Leesa » Thu Jan 26, 2006 9:26 pm

That really reached you deep down, a song that you reallllllly related to because of anything in your life and why......
funny, mine is going to be something more recent, it's bringing out an over all feeling of things that others said weren't ok, when I felt they were, a struggle for me and this particular song said, "your ok" "your allowed"

:( I'll add the rest later as I have to get to work

Good topic, Leesa. Is that you and Darren in the picture? You guys look great together. Of course, you look great all on your own. :)

Anyway, Only three? This is tough, as mine change all the time, but here goes...

Tell ya what - I'll break it down to Styx related and non-Styx related, so I can cheat and get 6 choices. lol

Just Get Through This Night - been there many times. The song paints a perfect picture and tells me I'm not the only one ever to feel like that. if Tommy wrote a song about it, it must be a profound feeling.

Hold That Thought - every memorable relationship starts with that euphoric feeling of being in love. You're on top of the world, and the still frames in our minds want to save the snapshots of the moments forever. It's just a great song.

I Can't Live Without You - Just an awesome song.

OK - NON Styx -

Golden Slumbers - My father used to sing me to sleep with this.

(gay alert) One Moment in Time - Shitney Houston. For some reason, this song gives me chills every time I hear it. The song itself is inspirational as hell, but I guess it bothers me to no end that someone with that much god-given talent would throw it in the trash the way she has. The song represents total irony in my eyes. Very sad.

Imagine - Always loved it. In today's psychotic world, it's even more prevalent.

How'd I do? lol
-Zan :)

believe me, i know my Styx

Good topic, Leesa!

"Desert Moon" would have to rank right at the top. The whole mood of that song -- loves lost, youthful memories remembered but never recaptured, time changing everything .... Beautiful lyrics, beautiful song, beautifully sung.

"I Don't Want to Live Without You" - Foreigner - I just love this song. It gives me such a warm feeling and I adore the video they made for it.

"Here Comes the Sun" - The Beatles - A George song. Makes me think of the return of all good things if you just give them time.

Got a LOT more, but I will go with what you asked.

Fight the Good Fight (Triumph) - no particular relation to an event or period in my life, but I find this one to be inspriational and reminds me to live life and make my own fortunes

Anybody Listening (Queensryche) - this song pretty much summed up what I was feeling when I realized that I could no longer stay married but didnt know how to deal with that thought and the emotions that came with it

Someone Else (Queensryche) - marriage had ended and I went through some of the typical crap that ensues. Once I "got to the other side" I could look back and see a different personthan who I had become...someone else not me

No sissy songs for you, eh Soloud?

Important songs to me are:

Little Girl , Journey. That song just does something to me. It's so emotional.

She's Got a Way About Her, Billy Joel. It expresses the way I feel about my wife perfectly.

And so I don't come across as a complete wimp...

Stone in Love, Journey. My favorite song to jam to on the guitar.

Funny how the songs that stay with you are more simple. Maybe it's because the songs that are overproduced tend to be dated or sound like 'period' pieces.

Some from off the top of my head, choose whatever 3 you'd like:

1. With or Without You-U2. Huge song from High School. This song put them in the Hall of Fame.

2. Drive-The Cars. Very haunting music. Haven't met a person who doesn't like this song.

3. Midnight Blue-Lou Gramm. Like it as much now as the first time I heard it.

4. Scene's From an Italian Restuarant-Billy Joel. This may qualify as three different songs. If you know the song, you know what I mean.

5. Limelight-Rush. Best song from the Best Album from the most musically skilled trio...Ever!

Midnight Blue...what an amazing little song. Saw Foreigner do it on the '02 tour. They pulled it out as the first encore and the joint came apart.
I thought, "man they must be getting along really good now, Mick's allowing the band to play Lou solo numbers."

What a mistake that thought was, but I digress. Good tune.
"I love almost everybody."---Rocky Balboa 1990
"Let's reform this thing.Let's go out and get some guys who want to work and go do it"--Neal Schon February, 2001

GREAT thread!!!

LOVE the Rush, Triumph & Queensryche songs chosen!!

Oops, I'm bad, I can't choose just 3.

"Lady" (by Styx-LOL) for those that have been to concerts with me have seen my cry, cry and cry during this song. It brings back tons and tons of great memories in my life. No song has touched the events of my life like this one. I had this song play too when I was in the hospital having each of my 7 kids (LOL)!

"Stone In Love" OMG!!! Tons of great nights/days in high school with this song (toliet papering and cow tipping -LOL). Cruisin' the Falls in my Cutlass Supreme on Saturday nights this song would come on the radio all the time!!

"Surrounded" Dream Theater. Went camping years ago and this was the only cd that was there. This song was played over and over a million times. Everytime I go camping or fishing I think of this song.

"Goodbye" Night Ranger It's always hard to say Goodbye. Too many long stories -LOL

"Time For Me To Fly" REO All throughout high school this was my phrase I used all the time when I was leaving. When I used to write notes in school (LOL) every letter was signed "Time For Me To Fly". This will be engraved on my tombstone.

Hmmmm... this is a toughie. I really don't have reasons, these are just songs that appeared at the right times in my life and touched me in some way.

The Church-Under The Milky Way

(MY gay alert!)Bette Midler-From A Distance(I still can't get through this song without crying)

Rush-Ghost of a Chance-Look up the lyrics to this song sometime, it's pretty self explanitory. Maybe there IS someone for everyone.

Hmmmm....I gotta think about this.

I like too many songs.

Golden Lark - Styx - I don't really know why but the song really appeals to me.

Mr. Blue Sky - ELO - This song again appeals to me...I don't know if its the choir at the end or the electric voices or what....just a happy good song.

Magnum Opus - Kansas - This is a piece of Musical GENIUS! It is eight minutes of Classic Rock heaven

Those are mine. Gotta love em.

I heard ELO yesterday and today on the radio!! I really miss their music, I don't have any of their cd's. Before I look it up, does anyone know if they're out touring, is much of the band still together? Any current information?

The last time I saw them out on the road was 2002. That was ELO II without Jeff Lynne, but they were REALLY REALLY good. They had the original bassist and violin player and I think one of the guitarists. In 2002 Jeff had a version of ELO and put out a new album called Zoom, and was going to go out on tour. The album tanked so he cancelled the tour. It's been all quiet on both fronts since then. Pick up one of their double cd box sets, that's about all your would need. The best of their best.

Really love some of the choices listed here and the reasons why. Angie! LOVE "Under the Milky Way" by The Church. It is always on my mp3 player! I also very much like your choice of Bette Midler's song. I am a big fan of her "You Got to Have Friends." Very meaningful to me.

DanMan, "Magnum Opus" is a terrific choice. My personal right-to-the-heart of-the-matter Kansas song is "Song for America."

Oh I could add so many to the list. :?

I will stick with my three...for now.

Wow...only three...hmmmm....once again...no easy choices here. You people are tough!!!!

It would depend on my mood and what I am thinking about....

Very old...Time in a Bottle by Jim Croce (yes I realize how much this song dates me...but for me it is hauntingly simple and speaks to me)

Breaking my own statement here...Let it Be by the Beatles...gets me every time

Call Me by Dennis DeYoung...a very personal choice...I'll leave it at that.

[quote="Zan"][b][color=magenta]Good topic, Leesa. Is that you and Darren in the picture? You guys look great together. Of course, you look great all on your own. :)

Yes Zan thats me and Darren lol Darren Wharton who is from my favorite band Dare:lol: he's the one Suite Drools over profusively lol! (did i spell that right? lol)anyway
Thats the night I met my favorite singer, writer, performer In Manchester England :D Totally AWESOME night in all ways. And to watch him walk in the pub we were sitting at made my heart skip a beat....so awesome

My Darren will be posting a pic here soon, it's of the two of us. Hope we can figure it out, Thanks for helping last time Suite!

~Leesa~

Now my top 3 or 4 or 5 lol and BTW Zan great idea with non styx songs and styx songs!

I choose "Your Allowed To Fall" by Dare/Darren Wharton, what a friggen voice and like AngieKay says about "From a distance" I tear up every time I hear this because Darren reaches deep into my heart while singing the verses to this, funny thing is this song is about his son and watching him grow and the mistakes he'll make, but not letting ppl bring you down because of them, and keep your dreams alive, when I had the chance to tell Darren how that song reaches me, he pulled me to him and whispered in my ear, your a true fan and reallllly feeling my music and don't let anyone take away your dreams or stop you from what you know you can do..(wow! right there, someone in my past always was trying to stop me from doing what I loved,) wow what a positive thing for my ears to hear, another verse I love is "you will learn to love, live your life so free" such a fantastic song ABSOLUTELY ADORE IT.

"Your All I Ever Needed" Bobby Kimball (Toto)another killer voice
beginning of something beautiful and hopeful and postive in my life...that's you baby just in case you didn't know  lol
we sang this to one another and sometimes in tears too sry babe had to say it lol, first time I had someone sing with me instead of telling me to shut up and let the artist sing the song :? And Darren sings with so much emotion, it melts me

"We We're Friends...Dare/Darren Wharton
This song brings me back to the beach the last Day Darren and I were together for the first time and he was on his way back to England, it was quite sad as our first meeting was fantastic and this day we had to say goodbye wondering if we'd ever be together again, he being in England, ok this verse..."and I wonder how you are tonight...." that was the truth lol
but the song is amazing and we used it as the wedding march when we married in October last year.

"Come Sail Away" just makes me happy singing it...love it

"Beth" Kiss....beautiful music and voice

"Time in a bottle" Jim Croce awesome song

"When The Children Cry" White Lion....speechless when I hear his voice here.
"Wherever you may go my heart will follow you" David Coverdale
"Skynyrd" "Buffet"man great times In HS with friends

"Thank You For Loving Me" Bon Jovi this goes to two very important people in my life.....and I mean it when I say that to you xoxo you know who you are lol

Great to see Billy Joel fans in here! Many songs I love and have good memories from.
Anything Grease makes me happy.

man this was hard picking only 3, I have lots more too..but already broke my own rules lol

You know, I bought it when it came out and gave it a listen then and then it went back in my collection, so I can't really remember what it sounded like good or bad. I think it was "ok". I remember thinking that you couldn't NOT mistake it for ELO. Jeff Lynne has that certain sound that will always follow him. To my knowledge, ELO II hasn't put anything.

Not really. I could never get past that stupid Ubby Dubby language the kids spoke. Was always more partial to the Electric Light Orchestra Company. They had live action Spiderman AND Morgan Freeman. :D

Actually John Payne (the current Asia lead singer) was supposed to sing lead for ELO II in the early 90's. In the brief time he was with them, he wrote a song that later appeared on an Asia album (Archiva). He retitled the song A.L.O. or Asiatic Light Orchestra.

They would probably be different if you asked me again in a week, but here they are:

Harvest For The World - Power Station (just kind of sums up our human condition and speaks to me)

Why Can't This Night Go On Forever - Journey (heard it first at a wedding reception during a very romantic night so many years ago)

The River - Bruce Springsteen
