Moondance Jam steps up efforts to ensure no traffic problems

STYX, Doobie Brothers are two bands who will appear at Dream 15

Moondance Jam 15, the campin' and jammin' event of the summer, has announced the signing of four groups.
But the biggest news about the July 12-15 outdoor rock 'n' roll concert will be the efforts from organizers and local officials to alleviate traffic problems.

Bill Bieloh, the Jam's owner, said he has negotiated with the Cass County Board to allow campers to come in one day early. So far, he said, more than 500 people have already taken advantage of the five-day camping offer.
"We are anticipating no traffic jams this year. The State Highway Patrol will double their efforts to keep the east-west traffic moving more freely at the signal lights at the Y Junction," Bieloh stated.

Jammers who reserve camping will be allowed to arrive one day early. Campers will be able to enter the camping areas between 4 and 9 p.m. Tuesday (July 11). However, jammers must have their tickets and five-day camping passes purchased in advance.

The five-day camping passes, which cost an additional $15 for the extra day, will only be available until April 15. Only the camping areas will be open one day early; the fairgrounds will be closed until Wednesday.
Bieloh said another change this year is that no single-day passes will be sold. "We're are trying to get people to come and stay all four days."

The current lineup for Dream 15 consists of STYX, who were signed last week, the Doobie Brothers, Starship featuring Mickey Thomas and The Guess Who.

STYX have performed twice before at the Jam, most recently back in 2002. Over the years they have scored eight Top 10 singles, including "Mr Roboto," "Lady," "Come Sail Away," "Show Me the Way" and "Too Much Time on my Hands."

The Doobie Brothers' career has spanned more than four decades and includes numerous gold, platinum and multi-platinum albums.

Their unique style of music that blends rock with blues, country, jazz and gospel can be heard in many of their hits including "Listen To The Music," "Jesus Is Just Alright," "Takin' It To The Streets," "One Step Closer" and "The Doctor."

Starship featuring Mickey Thomas recorded a string of hits through the '80s and '90s, including six Top 40 albums. Their big solo hits include "Jane," "Sara," "We Built This City" and "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now."

The Guess Who, the band that became Canada's first international rock music superstars, began in 1962 in Winnipeg and, over the years, has scored several hits. They including "American Woman," "These Eyes," "Undun," "No Sugar Tonight" and "Dancin' Fool."
Tickets for the four-day rock 'n' roll fest can be ordered online at www.moondancejam.com or by calling (877) MOONJAM.

For those who wish to camp out during the Jam, reserved camping is being booked fast and is nearly sold out.

Bieloh said he doesn't know how fast the rest of the reserved campsites will sell out, but less than a quarter of the sites are still available. There are plenty of general camping campsites still available, however.
Reserved camping sites must be reserved by phone, while general camping is ordered online.

You know at this point this thread has been looked at 32 times with no one replying or making a comment. When Styx is advertised using "Dennis" songs there is nothing but screams of how could they... But When Dennis is being advertised "AS STYX" there is no comment......... Very Strange

I did not realize that DDY was the one playing. I don't think the pic came through the first time I read this thread so I had no reason to believe this was about DDY at all.

Moondance Jam

Not a bad lineup. Guess Who is, unfortunately, back to touring without singer Burton Cummings(he'd been back with them again from 1999-early 2004). There are now two Starships touring, Mickey Thomas' Starship which features only Mickey from the 80s lineup and performs all the 80s hits like We Built This City, Sara, etc. and Jefferson Starship which has Marty Balin, Paul Kantner and David Freiberg from the original lineup and does 70s Starship stuff, Jefferson Airplane stuff and new things. I've seen both versions and they're really good.

This had me totally confused, NH. When I first saw it, I thought the article was about Styx appearing at this festival and that the DDY pic was a sig.

Then I read what you wrote today, clicked on the link, and can find nothing that mentions Styx, only Dennis and his band and songlist.

Where did the write-up you posted come from? Was it an official announcement of events??

Sorry, but I am still confused. :?

Congratulations! You're still the same.

I'd seen the write up on another site. It is sad that once again the distinction wasn't made clear. And once again, it clearly demonstrates that homework isn't being done.

Peace

The link at the top is the original link to the article.

I know we go back and forth on this stuff, but I would think by now that there would be contract language on both sides about how the venues can promote them including the songs.

It is just as agravating to me when Styx is playing a venue and they list songs like Babe as if the band was still playing it. I am guessing that writers are given some sort of "talking points" when the venues create the original press release. This stuff should be in there.

Yeah, same here. I was thinking Styx all along until reading your next post and checking the link out.

It takes me a while to go through posts!! LOL You know I reply to everything. Yes, I'm the one that screams when Styx does it!!

I know we go back and forth on this stuff, but I would think by now that there would be contract language on both sides about how the venues can promote them including the songs.

This appears to be an editorial (writer) not press release. The website is correct and the billing is correct.

Wow like the others - I assumed they were talking about Styx and the DDY thing at the end was a signature pic, not part of the article.

It sounds like a news paper writer hasn't done their homework and now looks stupid. Dennis doesn't go around selling himself as Styx anywhere - he uses the standard "the music of Styx" line everywhere he goes...

This is no different than radio stations using Dennis' songs (that they don't play) to plug upcoming Styx shows.. and I thought we all got desensitized to that years ago.

This article screams more about the ignorance of the author than anything malicious.

Don't get this confused with a venue piece. I'm sure there is VERY SPECIFIC language about how things are to be used. But if the paper screws up and gets it wrong (like they do 90% of the time) then it's the paper's faulr.

In the Jan. 25 issue of The Pilot-Independent, there was a mistakes in the "Moondance Jam 15" story.
Dennis DeYoung: The Music of STYX, not the band STYX, will be performing at Moondance Jam 15.
