SRP=Styx Related Product?

I have the first Shaw-Blades CD. Didn't do much for me. I guess without Ted there was something missing...attitude or something. Definately has some good songs, but overall just seemed a little lacking. And the material on this one does not look like the type of stuff that will truly keep me interested. But I am still anxious to hear it as I DO like Shaw and Blades.

You got the SRP right-Styx Related Product

Shaw Blades first cd was awesome, IMO :D . Better than any DY cd, although the first one was very good. The second was lacking.-ERIC

an article i found

The new SHAW BLADES CD is a collection of covers of Tommy & Jack's favorite songs from the 1960s and '70s. The album grew out of a lone cover on Blades' solo album, a version of Spirit's "Nature's Way" that Shaw plays on. Blades says after they were done, they looked at each other and said, "Wouldn't it be great to do a whole album of these?"

Songs include Badfinger's "No Matter What," Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth," Seals & Crofts' "Summer Breeze," Simon & Garfunkel's "I Am A Rock" and "Sounds of Silence," and The Hollies' "On A Carousel."

A release date hasn't been set yet, but I've been fortunate enough to hear a few of these songs already, and I can tell you firsthand this album is going to be SPECTACULAR. Tommy and Jack offer fresh versions of timeless classics, staying true to the originals yet making them their own at the same time. The vocals on "Sounds of Silence" and "Summer Breeze" are simply gorgeous. Another stand-out on the record will be YES' "Your Move," which features Shaw delivering what may be his best vocal performance to date.

OK, two things. Sounds like such a rocking, rock-out collection by the ultimate rocker, Tommy Shaw.................not!

BUT, I really like a LOT of the songs listed and would be very interested to hear how they sound. They made some good choices, but, honestly, they would have to be amazing to beat the original versions of them, IMO.

This one may get on my "buy," or at least "download some tracks" list.

I'd certainly have preferred new music to covers, but the silver lining is I'm only familiar with about three of the tracks, so it'll be new to me, I guess.

I would personally love new music too, but I'm just craving anything from them. Love those guys!!!

Everyone is doing cover songs!! Might as well join the cover song club.

I really liked the first Shaw/Blades album - a LOT more so than the second Damn Yankees album. The songs were simplified and had a more artistic touch and was not so "produced". It was kinda refreshing to hear their sound stripped down like that. You really get to hear the natural harmonies without all the compression and other crap pounding the life out of the performance.

Ash it's not flame bait, it is the truth and you know it, the same that there was little outrage as Dennis being advertised in as Styx in the other thread.

And yet...there were those who acknowledged that the band doing covers wasn't a bad thing, as well as acknowledging that perhaps promotions don't necessarily lie at the feet of the band either. Funny how that gets ignored as well. Sometimes you just can't win, so it's better to just let it go...but that's me.

Peace

Thank you, Sadie.

There are some of us who were never opposed to the idea of Current Styx doing a covers album. I was one. My problem was with some of the song choices, and, of course, I am not fond of the singing of Gowan, so that made Big Bang less than appealing to me.

As to Shaw/Blades. I stated that I liked some of their choices, but, as with ANY covers CD's, to me at least, the songs will have to be extra-special sounding for me to buy this CD.

This is just from me :)

I don't think Styx has gone to hell for doing a covers album. Most bands are doing covers because they can't think of anything fresh to do or compete with the crap of today's music, don't know.

As for Styx, I didn't like the original songs that they or the record company chose to put on that album. I don't like the harmonies and I don't care for the vocals of a few of the singers. Plus I still like to complain about anything they do - LOL JUST KIDDING

As for Shaw/Blades, there are a few songs that I like. I love the harmonies and I think they're both pretty hot for older rocking guys - LOL!! The whole package - LOL
