PARADISE THEATRE

Postby STYGIANMAN » Wed Feb 08, 2006 7:47 am

Does anyone know the exact release date of Paradise Theatre? I remember buying it on the first day it was released but I can't remeber the date. I think it was around Xmas time in 1980.

Thanks!

Can I be mean or do I have to be nice on here??? LOL Just kidding.

BUT that one did come and go kind of fast, right? I guess that's common with most cover cd's right?

On a positive note, Dennis's double live cd is kicking ass in sales in North America. I think that's good news. And he sold out another Canada date.

A few tweaks to your very comprehensive chronology...

Babe came out in late 1979 (not 1978 as you have listed) and peaked at number 1 in December 1979. I never know if it should be categorized as a 70s song or 80s song. XM radio plays it on the 80s station if that sheds any light on anything. The rest of the Cornerstone singles came out in 1980. Also, "Love At First Sight" off Edge came out in 1991 - it was a decent size hit, reaching #25 on the top 100 and #12 on AC.

"Paradise" was the first single off Return to Paradise and chared on Billboard AC at like 23 in 1997.

"Everything Is Cool" and "While There's Still Time" were released as Singles off BNW in 1999. "I will be your witness" Was released under the XTS name. None charted.

"Waiting For Our Time" was released off "Cyclo" and hit #37 on the rock track chart. The ballad "Yes I can" was released to AC and didn't chart. They may have tried to release "These are the Times" too. It didn't chart.

"I am the Walrus" was released prior to Big Bang Theory. While it didn't chart on any Billboard charts, it did receive some pretty big airplay on quite a few classic rock stations (stations that only play classic rock and are not part of the Billboard chart).

Hope that helps.

American?? Canadian?? LOL Did Styx? And if they did, how long did it stay on the charts? Just curious

With all the crap that happened to Dennis I'm so happy that he's having a successful solo career. Well, I personally think he's pretty successful if you compare it to other Dinosaur Rock bands or artists. LOL I have a feeling this is just the beginning.

He's selling out more and more concerts in Canada, his cd is doing damn good up there and so is his Soundstage DVD. So it's Canada, he's still doing great!!

I personally think that he's doing a little better on his own that the current line up of Styx is doing now. OMG just look at that Star Academie clip, UNFRICKENBELIEVABLE!!

I think Big Bang reached number 34 on the American Billboard album charts. I am glad that Dennis is doing well in Canada. I think the true test will come if he ever records a new CD. As far as who is doing better…………How do you judge that? Who is generating more revenue? Who is selling more CDs? Who is playing to bigger crowds? Who is selling more t-shirts? Who is signed to major record company?

I remember it being previewed the last week of December in 1980 on the radio but not being released till January 1981. That's why you recall Christmastime. It was a few days after Christmas that I heard the preview of Best of Times. Boy, was that song ever a comfort to me. Late 1980 was a very dark period for myself and my family. My sister had passed away, my dad was sick in the hospital, John Lennon had just been killed, the hostages were still in Iran. It seemed like the whole world was going wrong! Snowblind, also from that album, seemed to sum up this bleak period as I also saw several people I know about to crash into the wall as the song so accurately describes. Best of Times seemed to be telling me not to worry that it would all be better soon. Dennis telling us all not to give up.

Thanks for the info. January 1981 sounds about right. The songs on the album all have 1980 dates, but that was because they were written sometime in 1980.

I don't know how they put all those albums out right in a row with all the touring they were doing. Amazing. But it was fun for me getting to buy a new Styx album every year!

I would say it was more a lack of record company/radio station support than the quality of the song. If its released in 1981, it goes to the top of the chart. I think it is a better song than Paradise. That only charted because CMC aggressively pushed the Return to Paradise album. The push for BNW was much less - probably because of all the politics that was happening.

Damn them all!!! I can't believe all the missed opportunities!!!

"While There's Still Time" should've been in the top 10!! I love this song. I can't stop playing it all day!!

I also think "Number One" was a single from "Brave New World". I remember hearing it on the radio in October or November of '99.
