Any clue as to who they will tour with?
Looking back at a life
Filled with warm embraces
No regrets only memories
Of smiling faces

Styx Touring With

Postby jimmy19029 » Thu Feb 23, 2006 11:50 am

I love Boston but would rather see them on a whole show rather than paired up with anyone. I feel the same way about Styx. But I guess that's not economically realistic today. This is pretty good news actually.

I saw them once about ten years ago and that was enough for me. They ARE good in concert, I just don't care for them as a band. Especially multiple shows(which is a must during a Styx tour!)!

I liked them at the time because I was working at a Top 40 station instead of a classic rock station like I am now. I'm just really really sick of their music...along with ZZ Top, The Steve Miller Band and Bob Seger(who I really hated in the first place!). They all had a very short shelf life for me.

Styx..I'll see as many as I can. They seem to like this part of the world and saturate the upper midwest/great plains.

They are not likely to tour with Boston.

I saw this on Kevincronin.com

"Oh yeah, there are plans in the works for a big co-headline tour of amphitheaters this coming summer. I will let you know as soon as all the details are locked in. But I can say that it is an exciting package, with a band who played their first shows with us in St Louis back in 1976, and whom we have only played with one time since. I am such a tease...always have been, I can't help myself.........."

Some enterprising folks did the research and found out that Boston opened for REO in St. Louis in 1976 and they have only played together once since then.

Looks like a great double bill to me.

LOL, I know Boston is double headling, just took a guess

How about Kansas, the band Kansas? Who would help Styx with increasing attendence? What about a band from today? Or are they going to stay with another "classic" band from the same era?

If JY gets over the personal issues, it's going to be Night Ranger / Ted Nugent / Damn Yankees / Styx

You guys/gals really like the Stones? Are they THAT great in concert or is it because they're the Stones?

The Stones are GREAT in concert, I don't care how old they are. They're a hell of a lot better then Kansas. I might have to boycott Styx concerts this year if they go out with them, that's worse than Boston! The Stones even move more then Kansas!

I can certainly see you getting tired of some of the classic artists working at a classic rock station like you do. Those stations play the SAME songs by said artists all the time.
Yes, the Stones are great in concert! I've seen them many times!
Kansas was really only away for a year and a half in the 80s and have been going strong since reforming in 1985. Three of the members in the early 80s were born again Christians but the band never became a Gospel or Christian music band. Those three members are no longer in the band. Kansas still sounds good in concert. Their singer, Steve Walsh, sounds much better now than he did back in the 90s. He's kicked the substance abuse problems he had then.

Hey you guys, stop raggin' Kansas!! They're one of my favorite bands, next to Journey and Boston! Kansas is still very much alive and touring quite reguarly. It's been a few years since they've released an album; I believe it came out around 2002(?) I saw Kansas in concert about two years ago, and they were absolutely brilliant! Steve Walsh does sound much much better than what he did in the 90's.

How are Kansas ticket sales? Just curious.

I'm sure they'd be paired with a classic band, I can't see any of the newer well known bands taking a risk touring with them, especially since their ticket sales aren't the best.

Styx 2006

Postby jimmy19029 » Sat Feb 25, 2006 3:13 am

That was Somewhere To Elsewhere in 2000, Greggie. And quite a wonderful album it was too.
Suite, Kansas mostly plays in theaters and casinos now and doesn't really draw big ticketwise to the larger outdoor shed venues that Styx usually play when teamed with REO or whomever. Sometimes they'll be the opener at one of those venues, like they were for Yes(in 2000) and Styx(in 1996)

looking at their schedule, they are basicly touring by themselves. Looks like the fair circuit again.

Didn't Boston add a female singer to its line up? I think she played bass too (Not that there is anything wrong with that) However, "More than a feeling" sung saprano would song funny, kind of like, a bass tackling "Our lips are sealed".

Kansas

Postby I Stumble In » Fri Mar 03, 2006 1:48 am

Kansas opened for Styx about 6 years ago (DTE - Detroit) and were absolutely HORRIBLE!!!!
They were the only rock band I have ever seen that never moved. They played like their feet were cemented into the stage, and the music showed it.
I can confirm that they are trying to work out the legalities, royalties, and target venue sizes for a Styx, Night Ranger, Uncle Ted, and Damn Yankees tour. The sticking points are the size of the venues that they are going to target. Typically - the larger venues already have dates booked - and they know that they will need to play the larger venues. The length of the show is also up in the air - they do not want to play abbreviated sets (90 minutes or less) - they want all bands to play a couple of hours (except for the Damn Yankees - that'll probably be a 30 - 45 minute set) - with a few tunes added in from ShawBlades Influence in that set. If you add it all together - that is one hell of a long concert. Logistically it is a nightmare.
The problem the other members of the bands have is not the royalty issues - but rather the length - Ted, Jack, and Tommy want to have all bands on stage at the end of the show for a song or two - this would not allow the other members to leave early - like the arrangement that Styx and Reo had - if you were opening - you left and got a head start to the next city during the headliners set.
Also - if it happens - don't look for Michael C. to be a part of it - Skynard has a full schedule - and he is now a full time member of that band. Todd will be taking his spot.
An announcement should be made sometime in March if it is going to happen or not. If it doesn't - Styx will probably have a lighter concert schedule than in recent years - and will then work on a new studio album in the early fall.

When I saw them about 2 or 3 years ago they did have a female singer in the band.I beliece she was also on the Corporate America album.
