Dennis has been doing things in an environment which is comfortable for him and is working quite successfully. Styx is now (at least in this case) following that lead. I'd be very surprised if a live recording wasn't part of this deal.

So what ELSE is new.

Oh, please, it's becoming about: Who is screwing who today? Will Baltar poke one of the Six's? Who will be the most naked? What will be the 'shocking' moment of the day? A rape scene? An unexpected murder? Beating the frack out of someone?

That's not scifi, that's a soap opera. It's not even imaginative.

It has potential, and it goes there once in a while. But, BSG is relying too much on shocking moments to carry the show. That's not 'drama', it's Scare Tactics.

Something wrong with the profits? I implied nothing of the sort. They can do anything with the profits they want. All I said was it seemed opportunistic to do it with a bunch of teenagers who aren't getting paid and therefore are basically free labor to the band.

That is exactly what I mean. You don't know if the band is taking advantage of anybody or not. It also makes YOU a 'hipocrit' when you critique Styx for using youths in their concert but totaly ignore the FACT that Dennis is doing the exact same thing.

This combined with Tommy saying "We've had a lot of offers but nothing made sense until now" and then used education.

Why is that so hard to understand? It doesn't seem the band is very interested in doing it, but if it benefits musical education, then why not? Why does it have to have some hidden reason that a non-fan you has to invent?

I can't remember the last time the truth wasn't harsh.

It isn't 'truth', it's your .02 opinion.

Even if they are playing copy-cat to someone they don't want in the band

That's right - I don't care.

I've seen the new Styx.... I saw them with Glen. I left when screetchy-voice Gowan started bastardizing one of my favorite songs of all time. I didn't care for them either. I've not seen DDY's show yet, so I'll reserve judgement until I do.

That is not what I said. You are sitting on your throne critiquing a concert that hasn't even happened yet. You are making up all kinds of things that are probably not even true. You have no clue what this thing is going to be like and you have already condemned it.

THAT is called prejudging...and it is wrong.

Did you not even read the post you are quoting? It was introduced by SUITE by referencing an article from JY.

I'm not arguing that Dennis is more hard rock than JY or Tommy - hell I don't think anyone is still debating that point.

Well, then maybe you should understand that I was replying to something SUITE said - and not you.

Dennis has been doing things in an environment which is comfortable for him and is working quite successfully.

It's successful in Canada. In the US he plays to Toads from a balloon.

Styx is now (at least in this case) following that lead. I'd be very surprised if a live recording wasn't part of this deal.

So what? I hope it is part of the deal - I'll be hearing new Styx songs.

name one Styx or Dennis song that has floated since Show Me The Way. And no - I'm not talking covers - I'm talking their music.

I'm talking about Styx fans response on this board...which is who SUITE was talking to. It was met by a very llukewarm response by the Styx fans here. As for Styx, Cyclorama had a few songs that Styx fans appreciated, "These Are the Times", "One With Everything", and "Kiss Your Ass Goodbye" in particular.

Did everyone here listen to the Styx Symphony Show from 1996?

PLEASE do not add "Miss America" that was horrid, ACK, ACK, ACK!!!!

To be honest, none of JY's songs would really sound good with a symphony. He's the "Rocker"

I think "Crystal Ball" would sound amazing with a symphony.

I'm sure these songs would sound awesome with a symphony:

Suite Madame Blue
Grand Illusion
Lady
Lorelei
Pieces of Eight
Mr. Roboto
Come Sail Away
Castle Walls
I'm Okay
Lords of the Ring
Queen of Spades
Lights

OOOOOh I'd love to hear "Mademoiselle" too.

Maybe "Lights" or "Sing For the Day"

Avoid any song Dennis has done with a symphony - or look like amateurs. I'd suggest doing songs from the greatest lineup ever.

These Are The Times
Waiting For Our Time To Come
all of the songs off the cover record.

Don't forget to include every hit that "the godfather of Styx" ever sung: None

Personally - I'd love to hear Blue Continental done and I Can't Live Without You from Shaw Blades.

Initially I was enthused about the possibilities of rock and classical merging together. Things sort of started off with the Moody Blues adding orchestration on their Days of Future Past album in 1967 and Deep Purple followed with Concerto For Group & Orchestra in 1969. There were others as well but those were probably the best known. But in recent years it's sort of been done to death with Little River Band, Dennis, Kansas, The Who, Scorpions, Metallica and a host of others following suit. With an artist like Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys it's a definite plus. But with others it sort of reeks of the latest marketing gimmick and these days I'm more of a purist who would rather see my rock bands rock unadorned.

Tommy's moved most of his notes to his myspace account. Believe it or not, this account is actually his and not being run by a fan.

Why would you want a myspace account that is full of ads and other crap when you already have a band web site and a personal web site? Why drive your fans away from your personal/band sites to some other third site.

My experience with my space leaves me with the impression that people would rather just post about drugs and exhibitionist sex (even if just an act) than anything really worth my time. And 99% of the people on there are FUGLY.

What is there for you Styx/Dennis fans to argue about? You got it all, imo. The band is still great. It comes to a Summer Celebration near me often. The reviews are great and they never fail to give you more than you pay for.
Dennis is living the American Dream and never looked or sounded better, not to mention how the Styx hits sound with a symphony. In your case, the saying applies; "Whatever Is, Is Right.".....A.Pope

STYX playing with a symphony and a choir???????? Suite are you serious????????

Well what is next, STYX remakes Babe or does an anniversary tour of Kilroy was here? To be fair, I cannot recall TS trashing the idea of playing in such an environment. But Mr reluctant legend has done it time and time again. Read his interviews. There is a James JY Young unofficial page, with countless interviews trashing that whole concept....well as long as Dennis is doing it. I think at any future meet and greets, or any interviews he needs to respond to this. Even if was one show. Ash I am with you, as time goes by, these guys keep expounding on their hypocracy.

As much as I think they belong in the Rock Hall of Fame, I shudder at this line up playing there ala Blondie and refusing to let Dennis take the stage as they belt out Lady and Come Sail Away, which I think would happen.

Yes Lord, I am serious. Very serious.

Back in November I was just kidding, or was I? LOL

I really wouldn't be shocked or surprised if they added "Mr. Roboto" in a future concert.

actually, i think there are some (ok, at least 1) JY tunes that could work with a symphony. TATH would be amazing!!!!!! think about it. actually, i think a lot of cyclorama would work with an orchestra. OWE, YIC, KTTTYL, FOTB.... hmmm... i hope they do SOMETHING from this album with the orchestra! and IATW of course!!! (in addition to the long list of styx classics already listed)

This is just a guess, but I think with the new shaw blades album coming out at some point, he will probably promote it here. Also, with the sudden popularity of myspace, it can't hurt to have some stuff there that can cross promote his various projects that aren't Styx.

STYX TO PERFORM WITH YOUTH ORCHESTRA
Styx has booked an appearance that will have them sharing the stage with a group of young musicians. The band will perform May 25th at the "One With Everything" concert at the Blossom Music Center in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, where they'll be joined by the Contemporary Youth Orchestra (CYO) from Cleveland. The setlist will likely include "Too Much Time On My Hands," "Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)," "Come Sail Away," and "Renegade," as well as a run through Styx's cover version of the Beatles standard "I Am The Walrus." Tickets for the one-time-only concert go on sale Friday (March 24th).

Singer-guitarist Tommy Shaw said, "Imagine this -- a 115-piece orchestra with a 40 member chorus, all between the ages of 13 and 19, performing two hours of our Styx music with us. The excitement is downright palpable. This experience has been electrifying to us ever since we were invited by them several months ago. Let's hear it for music education!"

Guitarist James "J.Y." Young also said, "We have not done a show with an orchestra since 1996. This should be a real special event... We truly think this is going to be a special night, where the orchestra will have as much or more youthful enthusiasm than the rock musicians... It's going to be a night of powerful music and powerful FUN! I can't wait....!"

In previous years, the CYO has performed with artists including Pat Benatar, Yes frontman Jon Anderson, Graham Nash, and Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek.

Jealousy, and bitching that one side of the equation isn't acting the way non-fans want them to. Kinda like you bitching about Journey.

I'm still in the camp that you would see all surviving members of Styx on the stage if they ever get in. That includes Glen as well as Dennis.

Now to return this thread back to its original topic....

Suite, I read your post again about the new Dennis song and you said it sounds like Classic Styx from the late 70’s. I guess that could mean it sounds like Babe or First Time. That is something I won’t get too excited over. That has been Dennis's style for the last 25 years. If it sounds more like Borrowed Time or Queen Of Spades then I would be pleasantly surprised. So which is it and have you heard anything else from this phantom CD? Inquiring minds want to know!

Sorry, it's not going to sound like "Babe" or "First Time". Since I totally suck at giving song reviews to me the song that I heard was a cross between "Come Sail Away" and "Pieces of Eight", but that was over a year ago on his piano. You'll hear/see!!

I'll see if I can get you anything with the next few weeks.

Monker, I loved his Christmas song. My family and my friends liked it too that were here to visit.

You bet your sweet ass that he's very successful in Canada. He has over 8. 9 or 10 sold out shows (SO FAR), that's over 22,000 fans that saw him, so far. I have the exact numbers coming. The reviews that I read have been positive.

He was a featured special guest a few times with their most popular show up there "Star Acadamie"

He was nominated for artist of the year up there or some award, I have to find it - LOL

No offense, of course, but the current line up of Styx hasn't done this yet, sold out this many shows within 3 months. Not here, not Canada not the UK.

This week is going to be special for him.

So what if it's Canada (I love Canada), but his double live cd blew Styx Carrot cd and their Covers cd way out of the water big time in North America. It's still on the charts up there.

Prove it. Show the soundscan numbers for Cyclorama and Dennis' live CD. Quite honestly, I don't believe it is true - since you have NEVER posted the numbers, I doubt you know either.
