Current Styx & Symphony & new Styx songs

You bet your sweet ass that he's very successful in Canada. He has over 8. 9 or 10 sold out shows (SO FAR), that's over 22,000 fans that saw him, so far. I have the exact numbers coming. The reviews that I read have been positive.

Now I am a lot less impressed. That's an average venue size of less then 3,000 seats. You talk it up like he's selling out 10,000 seat venues.

It's pretty amusing that this is considered 'very successful'. That's probably not much different then when he first toured the US a few years ago.

As for your 22,000 fans...I probably saw Styx with that many people at the two fair shows I saw them at a few years ago.

When Dennis can book 10,000 seat venues, then maybe you should brag...otherwise, he's not any better off then Styx.

I worked in the box office for 5 weeks in 1985........

each row on the lower level has 46 seats and there are 52 rows downstairs. The rest are upstairs in the circle.

No offense, but they didn't sell out anyway, only 83% with those figures of paid tickets.

If you like the artist, you go to the show. Who cares how much they do or don't make.

As long as fans feel they get what they paid for, that is all that matters.

I'm curious to know IF Dennis was in the group, would it be the same today? Would ticket sales be higher?

It matters to me when 'facts' are hyped out of proportion. Selling out small venues isn't that impressive.

Journey sells as many tickets as Styx and Dennis COMBINED. So, if you want to brag, at least brag about something that's worth it. You may as well be bragging that Dennis' nose is bigger then Perry's - cuz that's about how important it is.

You posted something as a fact, and have been doing so for months, and you and you don't even have the Soundscan numbers to back you up. The fact is you seem to not know what you are talking about.

That depends. if you mean "per show," then MAYBE. If you mean OVERALL< hell no. They'd only be gigging 8 times a year.

I think they're oversaturating the market right now, just my opinion. Don't you think more tickets would be sold if they played less venues and also changed the set list more often?

Maybe it's the same story with most of these "classic rock" bands.

I think they're oversaturating the market right now, just my opinion. Don't you think more tickets would be sold if they played less venues and also changed the set list more often?

I think older classic rock bands have to keep touring if they want to stay afloat. It's not like radio stations are going to flock them and beg to be the first to play their new material. I was just doing simple math: If tickets sales would be greater with DDY at the helm, it could have to do with the notion that he likes to play fewer, more selective dates.

I *am* curious as to how well his voice would hold out if he did play the type of schedule the current Styx plays (or played in the early 2000's, as the case may be). I know what I sound like after a few gigs in a row. I wonder if that has more to do with why he never wanted to play a lot than anything else.

It is sad that classic rock bands cannot get their airplay of new music. For example Cheap Trick's new music which is coming out on 06/06/06 (isn't that the cutest date next to 07/07/77) is GREAT!!! I hope their new album can get some kind of airplay.

I have no clue how his voice would hold out. I wouldn't think it would hold out on the number of dates that Styx is playing now. Why would someone want to destroy their voice. Look at Steven Tyler, surgery now. Even Steve A. from Journey's voice isn't holding up the best, my opinion.

I "think" it probably had to do with resting his voice and time away from his home. Who the hell wants to be on the road 363 days a year in a bus. Okay, even 100+ with their ages. I would think been there done that, right? I don't know.

I had vocal surgery when I was 19 - it happens - I hardly sang anything at that stage in life. Tommy's voice holds up well, then again, he sings about 8 songs a night, an average of maybe 3-4 nights a week, which isn't really that bad, all told. I do hope he takes care of it - I've been told that he does.

Not to discredit Tommy's efforts (he has held up well - in more ways than one), but I wasn't counting background vocals, since they're a lot less demanding on the pipes. Although, compared with my own band, which plays about 35-40 songs a night (we don't have the luxury of getting paid lots of money to play 14 song concerts), 1/3 of which I sing lead on, a few are duets, and the rest I do backgrounds, it still seems like a drop in the bucket...and they don't have go to real jobs the next morning either! LOL...

No wonder I always feel hoarse. LOL
