Hey ChicagoSTYX, just to let you know, Dennis will be taking some time off from touring to go to the studio and hopefully finish his new album/cd!!!

Also, he's getting positive feedback on his new song, sounds like the Classic Styx sound!!!!!

He really sounded like, in that one interview, that he is getting much closer to releasing the CD of new music. It sounds like he is just going to put it out there and let the chips fall where they may.

I know he will sell at least ONE copy! :D

I’ll believe it when I see it. Just because he said he will be working on it doesn’t mean we’ll ever see it. Remember Edge 2? btw, how many seats sold in KC? :?

You'll see it!! Hopefully before 2007 - LOL There's no rush. There's no reason to be. Why would he need to rush a cd out? He's doing pretty good right now, eh?

Remember Edge 2?

Hmmm, being a smartass this morning?? Do you think what happened to Edge 2 was all Dennis, OMG, I don't think so mister. Nice try though.

Suite,

Why don't you just post them, you do with the other numbers?

And you're right. What's the rush on Dennis' new cd.....it's only been 18 years since his last rock oriented solo album...

Suite... I gotta say - that picture in your avatar is just nasty. Dennis looks like a used car salesman, JY looks like a gigolo, chuck looks like Lebo from hogan's heroes and tommy looks like a crack whore in drag. John kinda looks like he should be sitting in front of the christmas tree reading "twas the night before Christmas" and not drumming in a rock band.

I had never seen that Styx look before. Dennis with the short hair and mustache and Tommy with the short hair. Was this taken after Cornerstone? During Paradise Theater? I am trying to get the time frame - it definitely screams 80s.

Well, you sure told him. Should I go get a ruler? ;-)

I think that originality a bad word in DeYoungland as well, BTW.

Here's what gets me - Neither "incarnation" of Styx - the group touring as Styx or Dennis and his solo efforts are unique or particularly catchy. Dennis and Styx both use the same jokes, dance moves, and songs they've been playing for years, with the exception of a few (Cyclo stuff, DDY's Hunchback material, etc.). Some of us prefer Styx, some prefer Dennis. Why? Because we're different types of people with different tastes. So why do some of you feel it's constantly necessary to throw in each other's faces the success or lack of success of the one you're not cheering for?

This has been going on for almost 7 YEARS, people. We are supposed to be ADULTS, for Christs sake. Pull the stick out and move on. Enjoy what makes you happy and allow others to do the same without reminding them every chance that "your guy/band" is better?

Personally, I couldn't give a flying flip about Dennis' new album, tour, setlist, wardrobe, wife's new boob lift, etc. I know many of you feel the same about the new Styx. Asise from my occasional rant like this, which I will no doubt regret because common sense tells me this is a waste of F$(&ing breath, I don't get into this trite BS (anymore) because I've discovered that nothing I feel, think, or say matters to anyone but me and those who agree with me. Why haven't some of you figured that out? Will your world end if you actually had to STFU and let other people enjoy their favorite band/performer without sticking your proverbial heels in their eyes?

And Suite, if you are so hell-bent on posting stats of Styx's lack of concert sales, then you'd better be damned sure you're willing to post Dennis'. And NOT JUST THE ONES THAT SELL OUT. Funny how you slam JY for making disparaging remarks about Dennis as often as he does, yet you do it here at least once a day about them. Don't be the same hypocrite that your hero is.

Actually... yard stick might be a better choice. ;)

I was sarcastically making the same point as you (well some of your point) in that - you can say x about Dennis and I can say y about Styx. And we can repeat this game as long as the day goes.

It'd be better if we all stopped making the passive agressive comments at the end of our forum posts about other camps. I've been guilty of it in the past... sometimes kidding.... most times not :)

And besides, if JY hadn't started....... KIDDING. :)

Oh wow... I could go on for days about this topic alone. You'd need almost a whole other forum to contain it.

I think at the end of the day you need to remember this is a forum sitting on a computer somewhere with a wire connected to it. We're giving personal opinions and statements about a rockband that was popular 20 years ago. We're not doing doctoral thesis presentations on war and peace here.

Every single person on this forum has at one time been a hippocrite. Which is why I preface my pointing out of hippocracy by demonstrating my own guilt in the matter. Everyone acts like hippocracy is the end of the world - when in reality we all have situational conditions to real life happenings. You may not always react the same way to the same set of stimuli depending on your external pressure. That's not evil - thats called being human. And we need to remember that just because we type on a machine doesn't mean we should act like one.

They were popular 20 years ago????? 20 YEARS AGO???? Boy do I feel old.

How many years ago was there last hit??

Seems to me...this point has been brought up by several of us over the last few years. Also seems to me that those who do not learn from history...are indeed often doomed to repeat it. Part of the grand yet baffling condition known as humanity.

Raises a toast to another 7 years of the circle jerk in all of us.

You know what - I am sick to death of this DDY/Styx bullshit, I could spit. I know a lot of you and ave nothing against any of you personally, but this place is becoming a joke.

I understand the points Ash is making. I don't need for anyone to explain to me that people aren't perfect. I don't need anyone to point out that I too am flawed. Of this, I am painfully aware, trust me. That said:

Like Ash said, we're all human, and no one, least of all me, is perfect or free of character flaws. However, being human should not excuse us from basic social etiquette. Especially when the shortcoming, once we become aware of it, is used as a justification instead of as a lesson that maybe we should try to change for the better.

To say "Yeah, that was hypocritical, I will try to be more true to my own principles in the future" is usually the ideal way to embrace our humanness, rather than using it as an excuse to keep being hypocritical.

The "computer screen" bit doesn't jive with me either. Ask anyone who knows me, I'm the same deal in person as I am online - although I'm told I come off less abrasive because of facial expression and tone of voice. I firmly believe that if you don't have the dangly bits to say to someone's face what you espouse on the internet, then you probably shouldn't be saying it at all.

Wow -- where did I say any of this? I didn't say anything about being one person when in a post and another in real life. All I said was we're typing irrelevant babble (in comparison to to the serious matters of real life) into an ethereal canvas spewing bits of opinion mixed with spice while we live vicariously through those we admire in a particular group of interest and that we should keep that in mind when we all decide to get worked up about things. I'm assuming you're referring to my comment since I'm the one who mentioned sitting behind a computer. If I'm wrong, I'll purge this from the collective record.

My point about hippocracy seems to be lost also. I guess I'll just drop it because I really don't want people getting all worked up over this crap. It's just words people. We're not curing cancer. It'd be nice if we were, but we're not.

Aren't there some message boards out there that can't stand Dennis and love Current Styx? Maybe some who post here, and are so unhappy with what is discussed here, should spend their time there? Just a suggestion.

Every now and then, much less now than a few years ago, we get off on the "two camps" tangent and hurl some bombs both directions. But it calms down.

I think I pretty much know who is coming from where on this board. I enjoy reading what everyone says, though, and appreciate the fact that we can respond in kind and still remain somewhat civil.

And there are a few who like to tease and have a little fun, but no harm done.

I also will say any of what I say here to someone's face, anytime. Even if I don't like their face and they do not like mine.

Done here.

Seeing stuff like the above motivates me to post MORE.

Telling peopleto LEAVE is not the best thing to happen in a forum. Enough Styx fans have left already. It's basicaly become a DDY forum. Any mention of Styx turns into sarcastic BS not worthy of even reading.

Every now and then, much less now than a few years ago, we get off on the "two camps" tangent and hurl some bombs both directions. But it calms down.

It calms down because people leave or stop posting. Yeah, that's a good thing.

Yet you ask people to consider leaving instead of telling people to stop the BS. Good advice there.

And there are a few who like to tease and have a little fun, but no harm done.

Yes, there IS harm done to the forum when that 'teasing' involves insulting the band this forum is supposed to be about. If that is all the humor one can think of then maybe that person shouldn't say anything at all.

Maybe the Steve Perry board should have DDY added to it then the 2 ex singers who tried to dictate everything could be together..........i will ask Andrew if this is possible then the DDY fans could go there and leave this board to the fans of STYX

You guys need to take a chill pill.... seriously.

If you like the place -- stay and post... if you don't -- then leave. Nobody is holding a gun to your head. Stop taking forums, and yourselves, so seriously.

It's a forum... people will say things you agree with. People will say things you disagree with. THere will be people you love and people you hate. Please get a grip. I know it's hard... I had to learn how to take my lumps and read things I didn't agree with - and you can too... and at the end of the day we'll both have our training wheels off and playing with the big kids.

Anytime the forum becomes the topic - it's usually over ego and not over content. Just get over yourselves. This is supposed to be recreation, not bullshit.

Hmmm...If you don't like it, there's the door. I've heard THAT before! LOL (flashbacks of my mentally abusive mariage for a second - thanks for hanging in there with me).

Well, to my knowledge, there is no board that favors Styx over DDY, unless you're talking about Styxworld, which has little activity because of the membership thing...Plus, I personally (speaking only for myself) don't really know many people on that forum, as they came into the picture much later than my core group. Most "Styx" forums I visit talk about other stuff more than Styx - and when Styx is discussed, it's ticket info, new releases, Tommy notes, Dennis notes, show reviews, questions about labels or merchandise, etc. The collective Styx opinion part of it wore out when we lost the trolls.

Oh wait - when you said "favors Styx over DDY," did you mean a place where Styx wasn't getting slammed everyday on a regular basis by the same 4 people? In that case, there's plenty. It's a marvel, indeed. You should check it out sometime. It can be done.

This is the only Styx board I know of that still lingers in what was and likes to kick dirt in each other's faces - and I have seen unwarranted attacks from both sides, albeit the "facts" posted are usually from the DeYoung camp in the name of "defending" him. I will give credit for there being little name-calling, however. But still. Ash made a great point earlier (no, really - he did) that this stone throwing out of boredom or just to stir the pot is a waste of time. And knowing that we're not as bad as we were 6 years ago might SEEM like it should come as a great relief to me, but somehow, it still seems...lame.

If it applies to you, then take it or leave it, if it doesn't apply to you then just leave it. Contrary to what some of you might be thinking, I am not upset or angry at all - just observing something I find troubling that seems to be widely accepted and rationalized in this forum.

Furthermore, I apologize, Ash, for misunderstanding where you were going with the computer internet/opinionated world we spend time in. In the past, and in not-so-recent past, I've seen a LOT of people get really brave online - then in person, they cower like a wet kitten. Even though I was off base about your point, Ash, I still draw some parallels in that from a computer screen, we tend to dwell too much on insignificant stuff a lot longer and in more detail than we would otherwise. It's still not an excuse to contradict yourself on a regular basis or to be a flaming jerkoid (not calling anyone here a jerkoid, btw). You can hang out in a pub or bar, or out with your friends and talk shit all night - its the same thing, but have you ever had a friend or buddy who just insisted on telling the same story over & over, even after you've reminded him that he's doing so? What about the friend who says one thing and does the other on a regular basis? or the girl who gossips/casts judgements about everyone else, but turns around and does the same things herself? (Ash, are we agreeing or disagreeing? I can rarely tell except for that one time in the political topic last week. lol)

In these instances, sometimes we might say "Hey, that story's getting a little old," or "way to be consistant, bonehead." And sometimes we end up having to walk away from these friends because it just gets tiresome listening to/witnessing it. Sometimes, the friend will genuinely want to hear the truth, and sometimes, they'll say "go hang out elsewhere."

This is a "take what you want and leave the rest" life, people. All some of us are asking for is that some of you play fair. You don't have to listen or care. We do have the right to leave, that is true, but some of us like it here and would like to continue enjoying it here without being reminded everyday of the pseudo war still being fought by those who refuse to let go. Have at it.

One more thing - this is STYX board, not a DDY board or classic Styx board. If you want a haven for the DeYoungian posse to rally, then perhaps it is you who are the ones who should find that haven, not the Styx supporters. Oh wait - but this is a Styx board, not a new Styx board. Gosh, I guess we should be respectful of ALL the fans, not just the ones we agree with. Like, stop posting slanted facts and half-truths, for starters. And stop creating turmoil where there is none, for godsake.

And Ash, if you'll click my link below, you'll see that at least one of the members of my household is indeed curing cancer. :D

And he thinks we're ALL nuts.
