Styx Trivia #10 (for a prize)

Postby SuiteMadameBlue » Tue Apr 18, 2006 2:14 am

I never knew or heard this one.

This one has to be for a prize.

This has to do with Styx.

Who is Sparky Allen??

The dog in Kilroy Was Here that didn't make the film but was to be in the story originally. I know his first name was Spary anyway. This is just off the top of my head without researching.

GREAT answer, but sorry, not the right one.

I'll post about the "Sparky"/Paradise Theater story once someone gets the answer.

Was he the flying dog that was part of the DeYoung bad pot trip?

I kinda figured... it just came off sounding like some kind of negative or "yet another" example of how "uncool" Dennis is. I don't know how it ever became a "cool" thing to get wasted out of your mind. My one older brother used to periodically beat the shit out of me because he was always amped up on some kinda drug or another and then cry begging my forgiveness. Cured me of ever being cool I suppose.

So, you kinda figured

Go figure. lol

No. That wasn't it. At all.

My facetiousness has more to do with my disbelief that he's *never* done it than anything else. Not because I think he's too uncool to have smoked pot, good grief. DDY is uncool for so many other, more valid reasons. Not that he even tries to hide it.

Are we? This is the first time in over a year on this forum that I've seen mentioned. You must have a really low tolerance for talking about the same subject repeatedly, Suite!!! ;-)

Disclaimer: The above comment was written in sarcasm. It has nothing to do with Dennis DeYoung's coolness or lack thereof. It doesn't demean, degrade, or otherwise belittle those who have never partaken in recreational drug use.

LOL, no not really. You know me, I do really love to rehash the same topics over and over. LOL Just kidding

But seriously, I just didn't want to go through the whole Dennis saying what he said and then with Tommy and what happened with him during that time and then everyone speculating who did drugs and who didn't and who was broke because of it and yada yada - LOL That's what it usually turns into, well it did before a couple times.

Yes, indeed. Good call. I was only thinking of Dennis. How could I forget the rest of it? LOL

No Jimmy, nothing to do with interviewing. The answer is in one of your answers.

I personally thought this was a neat thing to know, but then again I love the song "First Time" so you guys will probably think I'm a geek once you know the answer - LOL

I did tell someone on here and they thought it was neat

Thought Dennis might've written it after hearing this Sparky talk about being on the road and missing someone. Obviously then it's certainly a song written about Dennis's wife. No mistake there.

It's totally written for Suzanne.

Here's another clue:

The last name has to do with a name of someone in the band. You should get this one now.

Dennis's pseudonym. Maybe away so long he felt like a different person. Pretending it's the first time again since he's now a new guy?

FINALLY!!! I'll take that answer, thankyouverymuch!!

You win a prize, Jimmy!!

See, I like this story!!!! Probably because I never heard it before.

Sparky Allen is the name Dennis used when he was on the road and checked in hotels during the "hey day" of Styx. (Allen is also Dennis' middle name, which I knew from a trivia).

He put the picture of Sparky The Flying Dog on the back of the Paradise Theater album. In the song "Rockin' The Paradise" he shouts out "Go Sparky Go". He also starts out the song, "tonights the night we make history, as sure as dogs can fly".

"Sparky" symbolized to Dennis, that anything was possible!
