OT - Flight 93

Postby Ash » Wed Apr 26, 2006 9:08 am

Hey Guys;

Putting politics aside please on this. I'm curious.

Who here is going to see Flight 93 when it comes out? The film looks absolutely riveting and from what I've read it seems that a ton of money was spent on research and interviews with the families so that the events of the flight could be pieced together as accurately as possible.

In all honesty - I think I'm going. If it is as advertised, then I think in some ways we owe it to ourselves to be reminded of what people went through on that day - even though it may not be plesant.

Thoughts?

I'd be more inclined to go if it were somehow not-for-profit.....

I agree with what you are saying Ash , and Id like to see it at some point, but the idea of profiteering off of a tragedy also bothers me a little

Depends on your point of view. is it making a profit off of a tragedy? Does it remind us of what we collectively witnessed, lived through and lost?

My own point of view is to view it (though not in a theater...for private reasons). I myself prefer the reminder.

Just my unsolicited .05

Did Spielberg make a profit off of "Shindler's List?" Did Alan Jackson make a profit from his "Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning" after September 11th? Most likely. It's a gray area, but if the money & time was spent to make the film, they should make money from it. I think it'll be a good movie. If the research was thorough enough, it should be enlightening too.

I'm not sure I will see it regardless. It takes a lot to get me to the movies, but I'm sure I'll see eventually.

Why would you want to see that?

It's just a bunch of actors taking the place of the real thing. Therefore, it's a cover movie and it will obviously suck.

Ignoring the Scarecrow here.

This movie was made, as you mentioned, Ash, with the full endorsement of the 911 families and the families of those on Flight 93. Much input was given by them to the makers of the film and it was made, from what I understand, with total respect, but adhering strongly to the storyline pieced together from many sources in all its grim totality.

The real traffic control officer is "playing" himself in the movie.

All that said, it sounds like a rough movie to see, as was Schindler's List. Probably I will have to watch it at home, too, Sadie.
Change your hairdo. Change your name.
Congratulations! You're still the same.

They already had a TV movie about it that ran last September. The Hamburg Cell(on HBO recently) which gave us a behind the scenes dramatization about the 9/11 terrorists was very good too.

Yes, I was just going to post something to this effect before I saw your post Jimmy. They had a tv movie and A&E had a show on it with Kiefer Sutherland narrating. After the A&E show, they had an after show speaking to family members. Both were very close to each other and fascinating to watch. I can't imagine this movie is going to be that much more factual or interesting then those two were, so I won't go.
(aside from the fact I haven't stepped into a movie theatre in over a year and a half)

Hey, I'm enjoying posting now. I just do not believe this is a good forum to talk about Styx. Unless you want to say how much they suck. In that case, it's actualy kinda fun.

Well, Episode 3 was the last movie I went out of my way to see, so that should give you an idea of my "avid" movie-going habits. I talk a pretty good game, though. I've planned on seeing at least 100 movies since then, and managed to get dragged to only three -- LOL!!! Seriously though, this one sounds kind of interesting, so I'm sure I'll check it out sometime.

Sorry everyone, but this made me laugh. Couldn't help myself!
