Winger.... It's been ages since I heard that.... From the time that Reb Beach was actually in a band, instead of a cover band.

My choice goes to Garbage's Bleed Like Me. Ever since the randomizer on the played the song Why Do You Love Me, I have it on serious rotation. Nice getting re-acquainted.

My AOTW is Y&T - Mean Streak. This album always makes me happy when I hear it. The band had a good time as well recording this one, according to the liner notes. They had built a cocktail bar in the studio with happy hour(s) starting at 7, and apparently they had set up some very expensive equipment solely for capturing every fart made during the recording of the album. According to Phil Kennemore listening back to the tape 'was as glorious as the fourth of July fireworks' One of the farts made it to the album and they digitally remastered the fart for the re-issue (glad to see they know what is important!), making it easier to hear.

From now on, AOTW will stand for Arjen Of the Week. This is referring to Arjen Lucassen and his many projects. Let's just say that when I get into a rut for music, it stays that way for awhile.

That said, my Arjen OTW goes to Ayreon "The Human Equation" for the 3rd week in 4.

Roger Glover's Butterfly Ball.

This was part of an order I made that took ages to get here. It hasn't left the player yet.

House of Lords - I (1988)

The first track called 'Pleasure Palace' is stuck in my mind today. I just love that song! :D

I picked up Lacuna Coil "Karmacode" this past week. Different I will say that. Not too many bands out there combining modern rock with Euro metal.

...but that's not my Arjen OTW. It continues to be Ayreon "The Human Equation" until further notice. 28 spins in 35 days and still counting. My goal is to have all the lyrics memorized before I get tired of playing it.

My AOTW is Queensryche - Operation Mindcrime II. When they announced this project I was wondering how they could possibly live up to it, and why they would set the bar so high, considering their previous albums were very... ahem, different from Mindcrime Queensryche.
I've listened to it a couple of times now, and I'm still liking it better and better. The songs sound modern and fresh, but there are also some musical references to part I. It's a very worthy sequel. The only thing I really don't care for is the orchestra... it sounds out of place and crowds the songs. But then my ears maybe still need to get used to that...

Mindcrime II has topped all the rock albums in the states. It sold 44,000 copies and charted #14. I've heard it and like it very much. Definitely on my to-buy list.

On a side note, Lacuna Coil "Karmacode" charted #28, they're best showing in the states.

2006 is becoming an expensive year for me.

Had a bit of a clean up and found Gary Moore's Wild Frontier. Hadn't heard it for years but it's been in the car this week and I've done lots of driving. It's a great album.

I'm still not sure about Mindcrime II...it starts poorly and ends poorly...but there is some good shit in the middle. The best since Promised Land but thats not too hard. More listens required.

No Arjen OTW believe it or not. I've been working all week.

So to give other albums a chance, I will choose Kotipelto "Waiting For the Dawn." I wish Kotipelto had stayed solo. Both of his albums are better than anything Stratovarius ever put out. Straight-Forward hard rock mixed with a little power metal. A perfect blend.

I have an Album of the Weak. That goes to Hydrogen "Bombshell." Melodic Rock has had 11 years to evolve into something that would make the genre noticeable again, but it is 3rd rate glam bands like these that show that bands won't adapt, and that melodic rock fans won't accept change.

I'm only thankful that my tastes have broadened in the past 2 years.

That said, my AOTW goes to Lullacry "Vol. 4." This is what I mean about adapting. A hard-hitting, hook-filled hard rock band, who use modern distortions and gimics to update an old sound and make it sound fresh and new.
