Saw Styx for first time since 99

Postby FormerDJMike » Mon May 15, 2006 9:59 pm

Saw Styx here in Panama City, FL last Monday night. It was the first time I had seen them play since Nov of 99 or so in St. Louis.

The band is much better now than they were then. The show was sold out. When the doors opened there were about 100 tix left but they all sold. Venue holds about 3,000 or so (Marina Civic Center, nice venue).

Got my photo pass to take pics, back stage passes and got to go up on stage before the band (no intros tho, I knew they usually did not use radio for intros).

Played the medley, a new song called "Just Be", "One With Everything" which was fabulous live, "Walrus", "Doctor" and the usuals.

Also - I noticed it sounds as if they "pitched up" Gowan's voice during "Lady" and added vibrato. Dunno if it was artificial or if he just sang it different than on the live CD but it sounded much different.

Good show, was not disappointed. My 13 year old son enjoyed it too. I have pictures, may post them some time (when I have time). Some were blurry... well most are because they didn't allow me to use a flash but I got some good ones after the show. My son had his pic taken with Ricky & Lawrence.

Now if I can only catch the Denny & Glenny show...

Glad you had a great time.

Nice to see there is some music they considered done and audience ready. They must be getting it fined tuned for the end of the month in Cleveland.

Styx always puts on a great show and the show is much more polished than it was in 99. I am sure in that time, Larry has made some adjustments to many of the songs including Lady.

Yes, they did mention the song "Just Be" was for the Cleveland show. Kind of a slow song, but not really a ballad.

BTW - Did not realize Todd was so short. I saw him when I was walking around the stage area when we got up on stage. Little guy! I did not speak to any of the band members when I was in the staging area, I saw Gowan, Todd & JY but felt it would be inappropriate (sp) to approach them there. So I got to talk to them in the backstage/bus area.

OH one other thing -- I asked JY about "Caught In The Act" on DVD... Not the VHS version, but a FULL show, one to match the CD and original video (meaning it should include Suite Madame Blue, Miss America, Fooling Yourself, etc that are NOT on the original). I asked if it would ever see the light of day. He smiled and said "I think so!". So maybe we will finally see CITA on DVD, with the full show. That would be nice!
