Shaw Blades news and new album

What's up with all the cover albums lately?

Night Ranger frontman Jack Blades has a special treat in store for his castmates in the '80s musical Rock Of Ages, which closes out its Las Vegas run tomorrow (Saturday, May 20th). Blades said that he's invited his close friend and musical partner Tommy Shaw from Styx to join him at the show's wrap party, where they'll perform songs from the show and from the Shaw-Blades covers album called Influence.

Blades said that the covers record he and Shaw made will finally come out in the fall. A final tracklisting hasn't been announced, but he previously said it was called Influence, and that they did versions of "Summer Breeze" by Seals & Crofts, "I Am A Rock" by Simon & Garfunkel, "California Dreaming" by the Mamas & the Papas, "No Matter What" by Badfinger, "For What It's Worth" by the Buffalo Springfield, "Lucky Man" by Emerson, Lake & Palmer, "Carousel" by the Hollies, and "Dance With Me" by Orleans.

Blades has never acted before, but he loved Rock Of Ages when it ran in Los Angeles, and he jumped at the chance to do the show when he was asked.

Interesting that "No Matter What" was also done by Def Leppard.
I wonder which version I will like better?
Of course I actually LOVE the original so I probably won't care for either a whole lot.

And on the whole, I hate "covers" CDs. I like the idea of b-sides, or an occassional song. But not an entire CD...
