TOTO IN SYDNEY

Postby Bobby Van Halen » Wed May 24, 2006 1:57 pm

Hi everybody..
Saw toto in sydney on sunday night and they blew the place apart.I tried twice to post a review on toto99.com but they wouldn't print it.I did say how great they were and how fantastic they sounded,i also put in how 10 fans waited 90 minutes in the cold in a side alley to meet there heroes and were snubbed by kimball and lukather.I mean it was great for simon phillips and greg p to sign some autographs but these guys took one look at everybody and jumped in there van and fled. Not a good look.
Other than that the toto website should post all good and bad reviews, although i cant see how anybody could say anything bad about the show.If you get a chance to see TOTO dont miss them.

Glad you liked the Show They really are at thier best in ages right now So If you have the chance to see them do it.

as for luke and bobby not showing up there's to be a reason for that. The times I waited for the band they always did take some time for fans.
But I H've to admit not take thier time to the fans in australia when they finaly were there after so many years isn't mayby the best thing.

Hi Toto fan..
Well the prob was that the other 2 guys came out in a rush and signed a few things. No big deal they werent even there for a minute.Lukather and kimball took one look outside saw there were no more than 10 people and got in there van and fled. Its cool to tell everybody you love them and blah blah blah while your on stage but its pretty pathetic when people are waiting for a wave or a handshake and you cant deliver because your in a rush.
I have great memories of the sydney show but that will always stick in my head,no time for the fans

Well they had already spent nearly an hour signing autographs inside, getting their photos taken etc...

(I know, I was one of them!)

So they were probably tired of it by then, and needed to hit the showers...

Cheers,
Richard

PS: Dare I mention that a few select people got invited to go out for drinks with the band to Scruffy Murphies? I should... :D

I can't believe that someone queued up the two or three Toto dance ripoffs on the Jukebox, just to annoy Steve... heheh got that was funny...
Cheers,
Richard

These guys had mor time for the fans than I have ever seen any act have.

Luke was signing stuff and taking photos during dinner/drinks/soundcheck/pre and post-show...in the street.

Never a word of complaints - happy to do it whenever asked.

didnt look like they had too much time when they shot through the side alley with 10 people waiting there. What they signed inside for the EXCLUSIVE people well good luck to them.
But what they did in front of us wasnt cool.Thats what i saw as well as the 9 others, what u saw was something else considering you played a part in having them here.Otherwise if you encountered what i did it just looked like a bunch of snobs that didnt have 30 seconds for the people that didnt have exclusive passes for the meet and greet.
I was there you werent.

Sounds like somebody had sour grapes..

Despite haing the honour of meeting the band, I would have been just as happy to see the band play and walk away and thats what I expected to happen.

They've been away from Aus for 14 years or so, played one of the longest and best sets i've ever heard and that includes bands that ive paid more than four times the price per ticket.

There were 1500 other people most like that didnt get autographs, I didnt get any signatures - I did get to meet the guys but no autographs..

If you asked me they undercharged for the tickets for a gig that was of that quality (audio, visual and stage presence)

They definately gave Australia a thankyou for sticking with them with that ticket pricing!
Regards,
Jim.

TOTO99.com is the bands website. If you would make a website about yourself, would you print negative things on your own on your website? Most probably not.

We never post all the reviews we receive. And we never did. We receive far too many reviews to post them all. I have received more than 1.500 reviews through the last 2 months and about 100 just from the Sydney show. So NO WAY to publish them all on toto99.com. So we always pick the best reviews and print these. That´s what we always did and that´s the way it has to be as we receive so many great reviews. Without having counted the reviews online, I would say that we maybe print 20-30% of all reviews. And we have to skip many many very positive reviews.

Btw, out of these 1.500 reviews there were maybe 10 reviews with negative aspects. Not so bad I would say. 2 from these 100 Sydney-Reviews had negative aspects and one of these dealt with the show itself, the other one was yours regarding what happened after the show.
However, we don´t move the reviews with criticism to the trash folder, I always forward these to the tourmanagement so that they know if there´s anything the fans didn´t like.

Best regards
Mark

Sydney was an awesome gig, and I'd travel up to Sydney to see em again in a heartbeat!

I heard the Melbourne gig rocked out as well.. Would like to have seen both but as it was a hectic schedule for the five days I stayed there I dont think i could have managed :)

Jim.
