If your a big Gowan fan then enjoy his solo material
He is ruining STYX eveytime he steps on stage,

LordofDaRing wrote:I am not as passionate as Froy about his stand, but I for one have no intentions of attending a "styx" concert if they come anywhere near the gulf coast. Lets face it folks, they are about one more lineup change from being the new version of the Platters. I know I am an ol fossil, the Platters were a 50's band that had an incredible song called smoke gets in your eyes and a few more. They still occasionaly tour today. Not one surviving member is left in that band. I know I asked this b4, but when do we not call this styx anymore? John passed away, Chuck (regardless of what everyone thinks) is only a part time member and Dennis is out.
I gave these guys a chance: Saw them 4 times since DDY's departure, purcahsed Cyclorama and too many live CD's to count. I am burned out on them. Yes TS is still an amazing talent, if he comes to my area as a solo artist, the Lord is first in line. Yes Todd is the BEST drummer I have seen live, even better than John P. Yes Larry is an amazing keyboard player. But this is not Styx. And for those of you who think JY has said or done nothing wrong: Please watch BTM one more time or go to his unauthorized home page and click into 4 or 5 of his interviews of his own words about former member DDY. And note that Styx is doing a show/shows with an orchestra and a choir. Nuff said.
I hope any of you attending a Styx or DDY, or GB show enjoy yourself completely. I for one am holding out (maybe in vain) for a Dennis/Glen show somewhere on the gulf coast.

Its really funny that 2 guys who I always fought with about STYx have now joined my opinion on this farse of a band
YOGI is going to be next BET ON IT<
Only the Shaw followers are left what a shame,

That's fine. IMO, where froy, and sometimes others, step over the line is when they start this crap about boycotting, or doing nothing but negative talk about the band or the current members. It's a STYX forum, not a Styx bashing forum. Sometimes it seems that is their sole purpose for being here - to talk down the current lineup of Styx. Again, IMO, if somebody has TRULY moved on, they wouldn't feel the need to CONSTANTLY revisit it in a forum like this. Like I've said, there is no point in trying to have a discussion about Styx here, unless you are posting about how much Styx sux.

As for JY, I was speaking SPECIFICALY about his comments in this last interview. He didn't seem angry to me. He seemt to be speaking his mind. He says almost the EXACT SAME THINGS as Neal Schon says about Perry and the direction he led Journey. I don't have a problem with EITHER of their words.

I'm seeing Dennis and Glen tonight, I'll be happy. I'm seeing Styx for free (I want to call them Carrot Styx because it's a cute name) next month. Politics and fights aside I miss hearing Tommy singing live. I love my Dennis friends and I love my Styx friends, I have a great time at concerts with my friends, that means the world to me for these concerts.

Hear hear! Jo's been around the Styx internet world for quite a long time, Bugsy. Shocking as it may be, there are other fans out there besides the ones who live here! (Not to mention lurkers who read this board regularly). Maybe Froy should take his boycott campaign to other lists and boards and see how well he does. lol

And even if she was a newbie, she's entitled to her opinion.

Yes you did! I just didn't see her as being that "bold," in the first place, I guess. lol

I guess I'm wrong, but it kinda sounded like her newbie status gave her less of a right to address Froy in such a way. Either way, not a major deal, we just wanted to make sure she wasn't being belittled or put in her place. Just in case, and stuff.

Froy ol buddy I pretty much have always agreed (albiet not so strongly) with your opinions in regards to Styx, I think you and I have disagreed on politics a few hundred times, but we can keep that over at the other Andrew site, this is not the place for that.
Maybe boycott is to strong of a word for me as well, I am just completely burned out on these guys. The current line up of Styx just has nothing new to offer that I have not seen the first few times I saw them post Dennis.
Again my recurring question is what would happend if and when TS leaves the band. He was not even a founding member, however aside from maybe DDY he is the most known for his contributions. I would think legally JY and Chuck could carry on with the name Styx and replace TS with another talented guitarist/singer. But again when does it cease being Styx. And I am not trying to isolate them as the only ones that do this, lord knows that thing called the Beach Boys which has been touring over the last several years was anything but.
Also this forum, as Andrew points out, is all things Styx old and new. Not just the current lineup touring under the name.
I do hope JY continues his trend of if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all. Glen Burtnik changed his tune, he trashed Dennis pretty hard for a while. Makes you wonder if this was not a management type decision over in that camp for a while. I can think of better ways to sell records.

I don't know if this counts. But the guy down at the cornerstore who does not know of LG joining Styx or that there was a band called Styx for that matter, agrees with froy about Dennis and the way things were.
He does not like JY one bit.
I did get a pound of coffee and a chocolate bar and he had a nice smile on his face and was nodding quite a bit.
I think there are about 7 of us now.

Lord do not be afraid to say BOYCOTT this is a tough decision but damn it
Someone has to stand up and say ENOUGH is ENOUGH
This group of phoney baloneys are running around the US year after year just killing the thing that we once loved.
ITS time to shut this down.
People joke and say we only have 5 or six people who are done with STYX but you know something thats more than half of this board.
I am not even counting the others who I know agree with me who just won't say it .
I am so proud of Darren who came right out and said THATS IT this is over. I have been saying the same thing from day 1
ITS was over when they sand bagged DENNIS DEYOUNG.
I don;t give a ratts ass about anything poor old JY has said
TOO BAD James YOUNG with out Dennis you would be a factory worker
HOW dare you spew your attitude on long time STYX fans

Well, double-dumb-ass on you.

I really don't care froy. Your shit in this forum is just as bad as Dean's in the Journey forum. You want to see how you are - look at him. Well, except he makes his posts legible.

The current band sucks and Gowan and JY are the reasons why
JY is a loser I have had enough of his big mouth so its time to fight back
Dennis won't do it I will do it for him.

When has it NOT been time? You've been doing it for six years. I don't expect anything else from you. You have nothing else to offer this forum, or any Styx related forum.

I see so when JY rips the founder of the band

That simply did not happen in the last article posted. If it did - quote it.

Of course you can blast him back. My point is that is ALL YOU DO.

Yeah, Styx sux. I know that.

I'd rather watch that then Dennis make goofy jokes about his family handling the lighting...or a Finesse comercial provided by his wife.

This will not stand the goof has gone on long enough
One day Im going to run into both James Young and Gowan and they are both going to hear it .
Believe me.

I'm sure they will listen. Go ahead and do it.

And Neal invited Perry back anytime any place.

An offer that everybody knows Perry could not accept even if he wanted to. If you are so upset at JY, why are you not upset at Neal for saying the EXACT SAME THINGS about Perry and the ballads, and the direction, and the 'return to the roots', and the control, and everything else?

Thanks to everyone who was defending me on here while I was busy living my life! I have been both a Styx fan and a Gowan fan since the 70s, and have been posting on various Styx and Gowan boards for years. Angie, I think you were thinking of Jo who lives in Ontario (I'm the one from Alberta) but we both enjoy both Gowan and Styx, so no matter! :)

As to seeing Styx, with and without Dennis and Gowan, I've only been fortunate to see them twice, because of where I live--once with each of them. Both shows were fantastic! I've seen Gowan several times and he blows me away every time. I've only been fortunate enought to meet Gowan, and he seems to be a wonderful, warm and kind person, who doesn't deserve this kind of trashing, just because his music or voice doesn't suit someone's taste.

My point is because I like a certain type of music or don't like a certain type of music, I don't feel that I have to put anyone else's choice down and when I visit a fan forum for a certain group, I don't enjoy other people doing that. But whatever, I've already wasted enough energy on this...

Cheers, everyone!

Boycott

Postby RockInDetroit » Thu Jun 29, 2006 11:39 pm

Count me in as one of the Boycotters. I considered myself a Styx fan, not a diehard fan but a fan nonetheless. What really turned me off on this carnation of Styx was when Tommy was in the Damn Yankees. He thought "I am going to show the world I am a ROCKER!" When he was in the Damn Yankees he just bashed a lot of the work he did with them and Dennis DeYoung to boot. In the Damn Yankee concerts they really went off bashing Babe. Well, what Tommy forgot was maybe he did not like that song but there were a lot of people out there that not only liked that song but also like all the Styx stuff and Dennis Deyoung stuff....Dennis contributed more to Styx then he or any of the other members ever did.

Then the way the whole exit of Dennis happened was wrong. The lawsuit and the continuous bashing of him on top of it. The band FORGOT that the fans not only like Tommy & JT but also Dennis. The fight was not between Dennis and the fans but TS/JY and Dennis. I have heard stuff from when Dennis was not in the band. I personally think it is terrible. I also saw them in concert once without Dennis, but only went because Saga was the opening act and they are not a band that you get a chance to see often. I also, find it funny while TS & JY bash Dennis that Glen quit TS & JY's band and has now joined camp with Dennis. I give Glen a lot of credit. Glen was really not in Dennis's Styx for that long.

So, as this whole fued affected others out side of Froy? Yes. I am one that joined the boycott long before Froy did.

So, Rock in Detroit, let me ask you a simple question..would you see Dennis live? Because the intial nature of Froy's boycott is to boycott Styx, and if you want them to reform, you have to not see either group, Dennis or Styx.

Therefore, you're not really supporting it, are you?

As for Froy-

That's a mighty long stretch to put Gowan in Ted Bundy's shoes. It points to signs of you sadly needing help.
