Has anyone seen any of the film footage when Styx was in the studio recording the "Grand Illusion" album?

I want that footage, I want to see that footage and all the other footage that's out there when Styx was making their albums in the studio.

The Grand Illusion was a magical time for Styx to be together and put together my favorite album. All members of the band during that time said this was the best time they had working together.

AFAIK, none exists. The band members obviously have outtakes/demos of the songs but the only semi-making of/behind the scenes kind of thing I know to exist was made around Paradise Theater and the tour, but it didn't have any studio stuff of recording. It did have a snippet of Tommy with the Panozzos in a club playing one of the songs that did land up on Girls With Guns, though. No idea where that videotape is - been years since I've seen it.

There is studio footage, I'm pretty sure MOST of it was taken with John's camera's during the time. I know there is some from working on the Grand Illusion album, same with all those pictures! I would love to put something together about THAT album with the anniversary coming up. :wink:

There is old concert footage that I do know exists. I'm THIS I I close to one of Tommy's first concerts when he joined Styx. It's from the concert in Hawaii, ABOUT a month after Tommy joined. The whole concert was filmed by a professional film company. Old posters were found a few years ago too, I had it emailed to me

THere's definitely live audio out there, like the full concert which made the King Biscuit.

I know there's stuff out there, but Styx has kept most of it pretty close to the vest. They're one of the few bands where not much has leaked out over the years.

I remember in some interview around 99, Tommy saying there were some tapes of something in the Styx Warehouse in Chicago. But he said they really didn't look at them. Could be what you are looking for Suite, but he really didn't say more than "there are some tapes in the warehouse" and was non discript about what they were. It's the same interview where he joked about finding a new pair of sneakers that he wore on stage for awhile.

Styx won't ever release archive material. They squashed the GI Deluxe Edition, so I don't see why they'd start issuing that stuff now.
