Grow up Zan really your like a 2nd grader,

Hmmm, a second grader teaching you proper grammar....and you reply with a post full of misspellings and grammar errors. You really shouldn't leave yourself open for these comparisons...But, oh, well, it makes this a bit entertaining.

Look folks, I've been sitting on the sidelines reading this stuff with amusement.

Do you think either side really cares if some boycott either Dennis or the current lineup of Styx? Not really. The split in 1999 divided many, and some have stuck to those guns. Some have supported both sides.

Both sides have slung mud at points over the past seven years (yes, it's been that long!). The reality is that neither camp is going to budge. Dennis has started over and by all accounts, has had some decent success.

Do I think deep down JY hoped what happened would keep DDY down? Maybe. It's a possibility, but I would agree JY keeps opening mouth and inserting foot. Tommy has gotten smart and kept his mouth shut.

The easiest way to say which product you support is voting with your hard earned paycheck: buy tickets/merchandise/music from who you want. Voting that way is the strongest way to send a message.

I've seen both DDY and Styx quite a few times, and I think because of it and the nature of my website, have been possibly blacklisted by both camps. I have no hard evidence, but the last time I had any contact with either management was quite a few years ago, and I've tried to get an interview with DDY to no avail. Guess my interview with JY pissed him off.

Long story short, don't sweat the small stuff. I enjoy Styx and related artists and their music (and some to varying degrees - some of it sucks and I'm honest to admit it), but it's not my life and unfortunately I got dragged into the middle of the Styx vs. DDY fight after my infamous interview with Dennis in 1999.

Do I think DDY with play with Styx again? Maybe, but not any time soon. Maybe by 2010, but by then, who will care. I think the current Styx lineup will give it a go with at least one more studio album. DDY is going to do the same. The sticky wicket will be the DDY and JY relationship. DDY I think will play with TS again. JY, I don't know. I could sadly see a JY-less Styx with Glen on guitar, DDY, Tommy, Todd, and some bass player to be named later (such as Hank).

The other problem is that DDY has proven things the Styx lineup is now trying. For example, the orchestral show. Great idea, but Styx did it in Atlanta in 1996 with DDY, and then DDY has done it solo since 2002. They've ridiculed him for it. Now it's a great idea for them to do it. JY has been especially vocal about such endeavors, now they're great. Such is the soap opera that is Styx and will continue to be even if DDY gets back together for them.

It's going to be an interesting couple of years to be sure.

Well, I've been sidetracked by life re: the MOrristown and HOB review. They were both good shows. Slightly different, but good nonetheless. My favorite DDY show still has to be either the Rye or the 1st show with the orchestra in 2002 at the Rosemont. Don't get me wrong - the subsequent ones have been good, but I think for whatever reason those early shows had an excitement around them that maybe is no longer there for me. But I do appreciate DDY taking out the oldies and dusting them off (which the touring Styx has really yet to do and I have openly criticized them for it).

Well, the site is undergoing an overhaul now that I'm the only one doing it and I'm also busy with work and writing another book due out later this year (work-related), so SC.com is on a bit of a back burner but I have grand plans for the site once I get time. The site will be up as long as I have interest in Styx.

Solid post
Agree 100 percent.,

Your are right with this one

That is what my STYX BOYCOTT 2006 is all about
You can't boycott Dennis he is a solo artist it will not matter
THE STYX name is being dragged through the mud thats where you stop giving your hard earned buck
DEMAND perfection from STYX and that means Gowan and Rickie must go.

Yes, but there are boycotters on both sides of the fence and have been since 1999. There are some who 100% support Styx in its current incarnation, some just Dennis, some both. Heck, a few of the Styx shows I've been to some people still think DDY is still in the band and are surprised to find out they not only won't be seeing him, but won't be hearing songs like "Babe" and "The Best of Times". If you don't want to see Styx, don't. But to create threads on it and ask people to join in the fray is ridiculous. People will do what they want. I respect all people's views whether they shun Styx as it is now, DDY on his own, or both. Neither side are angels in this silly soap opera, but I think both camps are realizing now that they need to move on. DDY's talk before "Come Sail Away" has softened in the past year or year and a half, and he is much more conciliatory in interviews. Tommy has shut up. Someone just needs to tell JY that bashing Dennis and saying the same old, same old is tired at this point. The reality is that from a songwriting point of view, he never was going to get the royalties because he had none of the major hits. It is Dennis or Tommy. So JY's income has to be largely based on touring with/as Styx. With DDY wanting to only do limited touring, it hurts his bottom line. Tommy had other outlets potentially available (he did a brief solo tour for 7DZ and Damn Yankees lurks from time to time). JY has Styx, and can maybe do some small club dates - emphasis on maybe. So I can understand his venom, but I think he needs to think about the time when at some point he and Dennis may have to work together again.

Yes, we didn't live with Dennis as a bandmate and maybe he was impossible on some levels to deal with. But in a rock group that had as much success as Styx at one point, do you think he was the only ego? Tommy was no picnic when he was on drugs and pissed of. Remeber when he smashed his hand/arm and delayed part of the Kilroy tour? Dennis may have been the most dominant, but it was all well and good when the cash was coming in during the late 70s and 80s to put up with it. They had a chance to change Styx history when they fired Dennis in 1979. They didn't. They rode the cash cow. So JY and Tommy to some degree are to blame for putting up with Dennis up until the point they parted ways in 1999.

And name me a reunited band that you haven't heard rumors behind the scenes that they really don't get along, and the initial good feeling of getting back together turned into all the old crap over time? I mean, come on, get real. Do you think all bands that are still together are best friends? No. I would argue most are business arrangements. I think Rush is the one example where they've managed to stay friends who happen to need some distance between tours and albums.

Gowan has his moments; personally, I'm not a fan of his version of "Come Sail Away", but I'll say this: I applaud Styx for not getting a look alike/sound alike. See where it landed Journey?

As for Ricky Phillips, as with Glen, he's a hired hand (well, as are Gowan and Todd, and probably Chuck at this point; Styx I would guess legally is Tommy and JY) who does backing vox and plays bass, and may contribute some songwriting to their next effort. Big deal. He's not the front man. He's no more important to Styx than Hank is to Dennis in my eyes.
