The success of this tour

Postby Valpokid » Tue Jul 25, 2006 3:57 am

This tour is selling so many tickets...and people know that SA is not singing. I have been to two shows and let Im not trying to be rude....but nobody seemed to care that JSS was singing...they still sang along they had the time of their life...I think the people seeing JSS and deen sing...are getting excited about the future. I think if they put a cd out and tour on it....they are going to be back in business ...big business. They just got to stick to their rock blues roots....maybe a balled...put some sing alongs...thats what journey is known for....they are soo damn catchy.....i think with JSS and dean....they will have the glory days back and i think people are getting excited about JSS. I know i am....I'd almost say this tour has been the most successful tour since perry's departure. Maybe i am wrong but the two shows i saw both had well over 23'000 people....thats the real deal

Here's an idea.....journey with JSS puts out a new cd.....which would be a garenteed hit on classic rock, adult contemporary, and even top 40.......tour...play the dirty dozen with 5 new songs....you got yourself established back garenteed

Most people bought their tickets before they knew SA wasn't singing.

Doubtful, imo. The majority of the people at concerts are not die hards (a lot still think SP is with the band!) and they aren't thinking about the future of the band. Maybe they didn't mind that JSS was up there, but they aren't "getting excited" about anything new from Journey. I guarantee it.

I'd almost say this tour has been the most successful tour since perry's departure. Maybe i am wrong but the two shows i saw both had well over 23'000 people....thats the real deal

Did you forget that two bands are pulling in that attendance? It's not Journey alone...

I'd rather see them do only 5 of the dirty dozen and the rest new or Arrival/Red13/Generations material.

I garenteed that people walk away from these shows saying....Journey was the better band....I am curious to whats going to happen blah blah blah........I promise you no matter who they came to see 80 % of the crowd thinks at the end...that journey was the better band

both of your posts are poppycock.

JSS doesn't GUARANTEE any re-establishment on the radio ever again. You don't get on the radio, just because you are an established band with hits in the past, there's no guarantee you'll ever be played on the radio again. Look at the Dixie Chicks. A bunch of loons in the industry are against them, and thus trying to turn fans against them. They're having the last laugh though in this case.

Journey isn't the one selling out these concerts this summer, but I suspect you know that already.

I thought the same thing cause journey tickets never sell like these shows...but when you get to them.....its hard to tell who the major fan base is....with out a doubt. Im just sick of not hearing new journey on the radio its rediculous why cant they come out with some stuff that is worthy of airwaves

I most definitely agree with you, AFI. Especially after attending the Tampa show. Most of the people sitting around me couldn't name anyone in Journey. Neal Schon was referred to as "dude that plays the guitar" by the animatated young man sitting next to us. :)

People are not thinking about the future...they are enjoying the past. The audience is reliving their youth with the SONGS...

Here's an idea. They either get rid of him or hang it up!! It doesn't sound like Journey anymore. It sounds like crap.

They've already done that. THere's no place else to go except coffee houses. And J28's right. It's not about the future anymore, which ironically is so "anti-Journey" when you think about it.

JSS is a great choice to get them through this year, and I'd LOVE a new record with them, but they won't listen to me.

Jeff's not trying too. He's simply helping out. His Fall tour was cancelled so that he could do this.

I'd venture a guess that most people are going to the shows simply because it's of two great bands that enable them to relive the 80s for a few hours. That's all. And a plus is that it's one of few major tours this year, and it's being promoted. I also think that this is exactly why Journey took the offer. They saw how huge this could be...it was a guaranteed paycheck.

Is Journey really selling tickets? Maybe, maybe not. Hate to sound like I'm dissing my favorite band, but DL is the main draw here and I doubt people really care one way or the other about the actual Journey members. People know that Perry is gone, and Neal Schon has never been a household name...neither has Jon Cain, Ross Valory, Steve Augeri, or Deen Castronovo.

My guess is that people are just going to party with the music, not the musicians.

Something else to think about. Has anyone been heard saying, "Hey it's that guy that used to sing for Yngie!" No. I didn't think so.

Will you quit making posts like that? He's not even the official singer as yet. Would you want him to steal someone's grave as quick as that?

I saw Journey in Charlotte, NC with Peter Frampton and John Waite a few years ago (I think it was the summer of 2001), and the place was pretty packed. The total capacity of the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre is 19,500, and I would say it was about 85% full. Journey headlined (of course) and put on a great show.

Then, I saw them a year later at the West Virginia State Fair and the place was so empty it was embarrassing. I was shocked. If there were more than 800 people there I would be surprised. That was a real shocker to me. I’ve seen high school pep rallies with more people in attendance.

One year they seem to be back in full force, and the next they seem like has-beens. I was really hoping this summer tour would put them back on the right track again, but it's probably not to be. This tour has been marred with controversy, accusations of fraud, and negative reviews in general. I really didn’t want one of my favorite bands to have to go out this way. I hope they can turn it around, but I just don’t see how at this point.

Make no mistake about it. This is Def Leppard's tour. They are selling the tickets. Without them, Journey would be playing state fairs again this year. :(

Milos, I think it's because of the constant touring. People have much better things to do, well most do  , than to see the same band every year.

I saw the same tour with Frampton and Waite, and frankly I think they ALL put on a great show. Would I pay to see them all together teh following year if they toured, no way.
