Seems JY likes to send his Lawyers after Styx' fans:

Way to go JY. Not that it's that surprising though. He's got plenty of spare time. And am I the only one who DOESN'T post on every single styx related site. The names over there were exactly the same as the ones here.

At least you can tell who we are. I think most of us alter our personalities a bit based on the way the board is run. Over there everyone is pretty relaxed, unlike here.

With that said, A subsequent post from Paul said it was sent to him through Styx's attourney and cc'd to JY. So it wasn't actually from JY, but the lawyers that watch out for the Styx name.

Either way, it could have ramifications down the line for all of us that have tribute sites to the band.

Thank you. It wasn't from JY or Styx. It was from a copyright law firm and was CC'ed to JY.

Also, to point, there are a lot of people who post on various foruma under different names - some even mutliple, anonymous identities in attempt to cause confusion or havoc. I'm not sure what the problem is about people posting in other forums besides this either. This was the most recent forum I joined, and I've been here a year and a half. It's amazing the different vibes you get depending on what board you read. Except for the anonymous contributors. They're all pretty much the same no matter where they post.

It's my fault I phrased the topic the way that I did.. I should clarify... however these copyright people do work for Styx and JY - so it's not entirely inaccurate. It's being done on his behalf - even though he may not have specifically done it.

Splitting hairs really.

Maybe. Believe me, I'll be one of the first to scream if it is concluded that he deliberately sabotaged a fan's website, but until I know for sure where the idea came from, I'm sitting tight. I typically like to let me knee sit a few minutes before I jerk it.

OK, it was CC'd to JY, meaning JY DOES know about it and did nothing? :?

LOL, you didn't see me over there, did you??

I'm on almost every Styx, Dennis, Tommy, JY, Gowan, Todd and Ricky group!! I usually go by this screen name. There's a few other sites I go by other names. Most people know who I am anyway - LOL

I never said there was anything wrong with posting on various sites. I find it hard enough to keep up with just this one. You people and your multitasking abilities.

It's like people who play in 5 fantasy football leagues. How the hell do they keep up with all that? Eventually you end up with EVERY player there is so who do you root for?

And with multiple boards, can you love somebody on one and hate them on the other? :D

Well, I belong to one board where confrontational attitudes are unwelcomed, so everyone gets along really well there, but for the most part, there are different members of different boards, and every board has its own flavor. This one, for instance, is the ONLY list or board that still argues over the Dennis/Styx situation. By at least 2 or 3 years. Glen's board is different than this one, and there are a few of the same players there that come here as well. So I guess it is the subject matter, or in this case, I believe the select few that stir the pot and get everybody riled up.

Well - to be fair - everyone is guilty of stirring the pot. There is no one or two people here or there that do it. I've done it on occasion, you (Zan) have done it...we all have and thats fine - it's what keeps us coming back (so long as it stays on topic and not personal).

For the most part, it never gets personal here... there are some exceptions. The only times I've been driven from the board for long stretches of time are when things got personal toward me or I felt the need to be overly personal toward someone else...

Getting riled up isn't always a bad thing.

This is one of my favorite boards. Overall we all get along pretty good. My favorite people are on this board!!

I'm on a few other music boards too, not just Styx related. And I'm on 2 Football boards getting ready for the season. I'm on one Football Fantasy League too. I think I'm picking the name The Styxinator or something like that this year - LOL

Oh for Christ's sake! I wish I could say this surprises me, but not at all. JY has always been very into the attorney scene. Back in 1988 when they were discussing a reunion, it was a lot of JY's legal posturing that put the brakes on things. And Tommy told me once in an interview, in regard to JY, "He was always dictating memos and sending out mean-spirited letters. I always just cringed when I got a letter from JY because it was always in legalese, and mean spirited, with copies to this guy and that guy, and it's like, my God, JY, lighten up, please!" This is just the latest in a fairly long line of things like this. It's my understanding that he is also either considering, or in the actual process of suing Dennis right now, it just hasn't been made public. At least that's what some insiders have said to me very recently. As I said, I wish I could say this surprises me, but it doesn't. It makes me laugh on the one hand, and it makes me sad on the other. Where is the benefit in this course of action? It's like JY is slowly losing his grasp on reality in his quest to make everything Styx fall under his sole control. How very sad.
I hope all is well.

No, but it *often* is.

I'm not talking about a few isolated incidents, Ash. I'm talking about those who make a point of being controversial or deliberately obtuse for the sake of pissing people off or to get a reaction.

I am asking this as an honest question. What the hell makes JY so angry? Seriously. The guys a famous musician who has his cash cow...errr I mean band 'the way he wants it.', yet at every turn there is either outright anger or a smarminess in everything he does. I go back even as far as his 'relucant legend' comments on VH1 in 2003. That whole interview he postured and talked down to people. Does the guy ever smile?

Well, my take - he needs to tour with Styx to keep his income and live comfortably. DDY and TS get most of the points on songs, and they all get some album money, but how much back catalog money are they getting? So if you were JY and DDY just bought a new mansion, yet you're busting your hump 200 days a year, would you be ticked? I can understand it - I can - but cut me a break. At some point just move on. DDY has become much more realistic and conciliatory.

I can see TS and DDY working together again. I can't see JY and DDY ever working together in a meaningful way again.

Side story: when I interviewed JY for StyxCollector.com, at the end of the interview (which has been edited out from what you hear on the site), I asked him nicely if he'd do an ID for the site. SOmething along the lines of, "Hi, this is James Young and you're visiting StyxCollector.com". Nothing fancy.

He flatly said no and he was uncomfortable with it. It was not a big deal in the grand scheme, and maybe he thought I was selling stuff and use it for some evil purpose. I don't know. You all know I do not run an ecommerce site (unless I want to get rid of dupe copies from my collection). Nothing malicious would have happened. I've long gotten over the meeting your favorite artists things, and I've done tons of 'em over the years. I honestly didn't expect that from him, and it left me a little disappointed.

I'd be shocked if JY needed the current touring money to live comfortably. I read an interview from several years ago (trying to think of the source, help me someone) where JY spent some time talking about his investments and money management. I was left with the impression that he knew what was going on as far as managing money and preserving assets. Let's also keep in mind that JY's educational background points out that he's a very smart man. You do not complete mechanical and aerospace degrees if you're not on the upper end of the IQ scale.

Rock Musicians have a lot of revenue streams besides album sales and mechanical royalties. Merchandise, concert guarantees, and other licensing can make oodles of money for musicians. My guess would be that every member of the classic lineup of Styx made enough dough to live a very comfortable lifestyle as long as they managed their money properly and didn't snort it up their noses.
