As a matter of interest what would be America's top 10 rock acts of all time and where would they fit in on the Brits top 100 ?

Biggest American rock band ever ? The Eagles maybe ?

The Police at 22? They need to be WAY higher than that. The Clash at #7!?!? Someone please tell me why The Clash is so respected. Please. I NEVER got why the critics loved 'em so much. Ever even met a big Clash fan? I doubt it. Yet another poll that means jack squat.

I guess Aerosmith would be up there. Metallica probably will be. Not necessarily my favorites, but due to popularity, I'd guess:

Aerosmith
Metallica
Bruce Springsteen & E. Street Band
Jimmy Buffet & Coral Reefer Band
R.E.M.
Bon Jovi
Journey
Dave Matthews Band-(I don't get that one at all personally)
Guns 'n' Roses-If they'd stayed together
Van Halen

Interesting list, Darren. I guess I pretty much agree. I think they got the top 10 about right. I would move The Kinks ahead of Sabbath, though.

I am with you, though, DerriD. What IS it with the worship at the altar of the Clash? I have never gotten that.

And I would remove the Sex Pistols from any lists that ever have "greatest". "top" or "best" in their titles.

Only out of personal preference....I'd move Jethro Tull about both The Clash and The Kinks.

Count me in as one who just doesn't get the whole love fest over The Clash.

Queen at #10 over Jimi Hendrix (who last I time I checked WAS AMERICAN) that should disqualify him hands down.

I might be the few who say this, but him like the Doors.. OVER RATED!

Thank you, Jodes. I have always felt this myself about both Hendrix and the Doors.

Thanks for the link Darren & the list, very interesting!!!

I posted a lot of those lists on here for best drummer, guitarist, keyboardist, vocalist! But that was a long time ago. I'll have to either dig those lists up or start new ones on here. I liked everyones responses! :)

At the top I'd move Queen ahead of Pink Floyd.

Others I would move higher are: Oasis, Radiohead, Depeche Mode, and Def Lep. I think Def Lep belongs in the top fifteen.
