Background on Castle Walls

Postby styxfansite » Fri Sep 22, 2006 11:32 am

Not sure if this has been posted or not so excuse me if it has, but I recently heard Dennis tell the story for Castle Walls.

Castle Walls was inspired by "The Exorcist". The band all went to see it the night that it opened in NYC. A few months later, Tommy Shaw dated the Star of the movie Linda Blair.

He has said that in most of his recent concerts. I tend to think perhaps there is some embellishment because it makes a great story.

Whatever inspired him...it remains one of my favorite songs by him.

I have always thought 'Castle Walls' was one of the best, if not THE best song that wasn't a 'Hit'. During the reunion tour in '96, Dennis said he started playing it and Tommy joined in and that kinda got the reunion tour idea started. Great song off a Great album. Thanks for the info.

My alltime fave Styx song........................ never been bettered

I have often wondered why the classic line up never played it live, they could of played that and dropped one of the other DDY songs like Babe or Lorelei

Hmmm....Exoricst came out in '73, and Linda Blair was only 14 years old at the time. If Tommy dated her a few months later, doesn't that make him a pedophile? :D

Not months, years later. Now let's not give Tommy credit where it doesn't exist. But yes, he really did date Miss Blair for a while...after she hit adulthood.

Thank goodness for that. And I must say that Ms. Blair has HUGE....tracts of land.

Sorry about the mis-type.

That would be a wild rumor that Tommy dated a 14 year old in the 70's. :D
