It'd be great if Styx and Journey were inducted at the same time. :-)

They probably won't be nominated for years.

What bands or musicians did either Styx or Journey influence?

They both have a chance within 6 years, if Van Halen gets in there soon, IMO.

I thought Journey got inducted last year or was it the walk of fame. They made a big deal of it because Steve Perry was there as well as other band members that are gone from the band. Many rummors went around the net, that the band was reuniting after that.

STYX would have to get back together first I believe before the Hall of Fame would even take them. They might see Jy's remarks about Dennis as a problem as well. Thinking "Does band memebers that hate each other this much deserve to be in there as a band".

It doesn't matter on how many albums sold! I totally agree about Blondie even The Pretenders too, no offense and a few other bands.

Performers
Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record. Criteria include the influence and significance of the artist’s contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll.

What is the influence & significance of Styx and Journey's contributions to the development & perpetuation of rock and roll? Sold out arena concerts? Record sales? Their popularity at their time?

The Foundation’s nominating committee, composed of rock and roll historians, selects nominees each year in the Performer category. Ballots are then sent to an international voting body of about 1,000 rock experts. Those performers who receive the highest number of votes, and more than 50 percent of the vote, are inducted. The Foundation generally inducts five to seven performers each year.

Most of the bands that have been inducted are not the original members. This is sad, but if by some miracle and Styx is inducted, JY has the power to let Dennis perform on the stage that night. That's what happened to Blondie and there were problems too when The Police were inducted.

I don't think the voting members of the hall care whether band members get along or not. It's truly more about business politics than what the masses think...at least in my opinion.

If Styx, Journey, or VH ever get inducted...it will be long after the powers that be are no longer involved...which I guess just goes to show you....how much does it matter anyway?

And it was the Hollywood Walk of Fame for Journey...not the R & R Hall of Fame.

As long as Jan Wenner or whatever his name is, is still part of the nomination committee, Styx will not be mentioned. He's a bitter man and to think he's bitter because of JY of all people. I think those 2 should sit down and talk things out. Get the weight off their shoulders that they've been carrying around.

Look, the arena rock/classic rock bands for the most part will be ignored for the RRHOF.

If Van Halen isn't in, that's telling. I think that mainly has to do with the RRHOF insisting they play with DLR onstage, and that isn't going to happen. Then there's the Michael Anthony issue at this point.

Rolling Stone was never kind to those acts. Heck, Genesis, Yes, et al., are in the same boat. But I can see Peter Gabriel getting in as a solo artist, and maybe Phil Collins. Not Genesis.

Rush won't get in either, although they deserve it.

I totally agree about Rush and Van Halen.

I hope they both get in. I just don't see the other Arena bands. Pretty sad too since most of them are still touring, well not with all their original members, but still touring.

Agree with this. To me, if any of these very popular so-called arena rock bands have any sort of "credibility" with what constitutes this ridiculous coterie of individuals who dub a band "cool" or "not cool" (and, therefore, "worthy"), Rush would probably have the best shot.

For that reason, I never see the day when bands like Styx and Journey ever get considered for induction.

Actually, that's what I've heard, too. Look at the review RS gave CRYSTAL BALL, it was very positive. Then GI the review was outstandingly negative, and singled out JY and "Miss America" in particular. RS has been on what seems like a mission to slam Styx ever since. The story I have heard off the record several times - but nobody wants to go on the record with it - is that JY and Jan Wenner used to be friendly, and then they had a falling out over something. Jan Wenner of course is well known to use RS to promote friends and punish enemies. And that's the way it REALLY works, sadly.

I write very extensively in my upcoming book about Styx' relationship with the critics and how and why it is what it is. It's really interesting to note that the quality of music has NOTHING to do with what gets critically lauded. It's all to do with perception and being in with the self-appointed arbiters of hip on both coasts, and Styx never has been. That's why they had such a hard time critically, along with the fact that the band was being marketed to an audience ten years younger than the critics who were writing reviews at that time . . . thus, the people writing reviews were not the audience for the band. Of course, Styx gets mostly better reviews now, because those people either got promoted into other positions or stopped writing, and now we have a generation of writers who grew up on Styx who are writing the reviews, making the booking decisions for TV shows, putting the music on TV shows and in movies, and so on and so on.

Right now the Hall of Shame is still being controlled by the people who started it - the very same people who have misunderstood Styx all along. As long as that remains so, Styx will not get nominated. As soon as the current elitists retire/die, and people in their thirties and younger get in there, it will change. I just hope Jan Wenner does not outlive the guys in Styx. . . He might, because he sucks the blood out of puppies to replenish himself, lol.

On a business level, Styx was a very cutting edge band that helped to invent and re-define what was possible for a rock band, from their stage craft to the way they organized their tours to the way they marketed and branded their music and imaging. There are few bands in the industry today that are not walking in the footsteps of Styx in those regards.

As far as who Styx influenced, on a sociological level their music has become an undeniable part of pop culture in a way that is not true of Blondie, or the Sex Pistiols, or Velvet Underground, or most of those critically lauded bands that failed to catch on with real paying customers. You can't avoid hearing Styx references or music no matter the medium . . . radio, TV, film, print. Styx is everywhere in our culture all the time, even for those who are not out seeking it like we are. But the people in charge of such things are still trying to dictate what we ought to like, instead of accepting that their tastes are in the tiny minority and that it is our tastes . . . . the record buying public whose money fuels the economy of the business they are in . . . that ought to carry the weight.

I hope all is well.
