From STYXworld.com:

Styx Teams With the All-Teen Contemporary Youth Orchestra for "One With Everything" Concert Performance Featuring Symphonic Arrangements of Classic Styx Plus Two New Songs
SANTA MONICA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- October 10, 2006 -- One of the most popular bands in history, and one renowned for breaking new ground in rock, Styx joined with the all-teen Contemporary Youth Orchestra (CYO) in May 2006 for a special concert. That unforgettable performance at the Blossom Music Center in Cleveland is now available on CD with "One With Everything: Styx & the Contemporary Youth Orchestra" (New Door Records/A&M/UMe), released November 7, 2006.

Featured with the orchestra's 115 musicians plus 56 voices in the chorus (all teenagers under the direction of Liza Grossman), Styx performed several classic hits, including "Too Much Time On My Hands," "Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)" and "Renegade" as well as two new songs, "Just Be" and "Everything, All The Time."

"We have had offers over the last 10 years to perform with an orchestra again, but frankly we had not been inclined to accept," the band's Tommy Shaw told Billboard. "But this new offer was different." Shaw said the CYO had worked with guest artists Ray Manzarek, Graham Nash, Jon Anderson and Pat Benatar, "but a whole band had never performed with them; we'd be the first. This was too sweet to ignore." The inspiration also sparked the writing of the pair of new songs. Added the band's James "JY" Young: "The fact that we in Styx, who have been making records since the 1970s, have gained a new young audience for our music, is amazing."

The full-out symphonic arrangements of the songs, which also included "Blue Collar Man," "One With Everything," "Don't Make Sense (If You Can't Make Peace)," "A Criminal Mind," "Miss America" and The Beatles' "I Am The Walrus," proved such a marvelous experience for both the CYO and Styx (singer-guitarists Shaw and Young, keyboardist Lawrence Gowan, drummer Todd Sucherman, bassist Ricky Phillips and a guest appearance by founding member/bassist Chuck Panozzo) that the "One With Everything" CD will be released simultaneously with a DVD on another label. In addition, the concert will air on HDNet on November 19 and as a PBS special in December.

Since its 1972 debut, Styx has earned three triple platinum, one double platinum, one platinum and five gold albums, and notched 16 pop Top 40 singles. 2005's "Big Bang Theory," the group's most recent studio album, earned the band's biggest debut week in the Nielson SoundScan era. Styx also has continued to tour the world.

That Soundscan quote is a joke - it sure pulls the wool over your eyes, doesn't it. Talk about misleading journalism and press releases. The Nielsen Soundscan era began in the mid 1990s - well after the big albums - even after Edge of the Century (which I can guarantee you BBT did NOT outsell). And the only reason BBT sold more copies in one week than some of the other albums that they released during that time period (RTP, BNW, Cyclo, etc.) was because they timed a visit to the Today Show the week the album was released.

I’m looking forward to the new songs. I normally have not liked orchestra rock CDs in the past. DDY’s was just okay. I think the 56 member chorus may add a lot.

So just out of curiosity then....the 40 members of the orchestra on DDY's cd....you feel 16 additional members is going to make a pronounced difference?

Nothing at all against these kids. I admire their talent and effort. I just think perhaps your bias is showing a little.

I was talking about the chorus and not the orchestra. I don’t believe that DDY had a chorus on his CD. Incidentally the orchestra on the new Styx CD is 115 members and the chorus is 56 members. So that will be 171 as opposed to 40. So to answer your question I would have to say yes it would make a pronounced difference bias or not!

Since I was there I can assure you he had a choir there. The Chicago Children's Choir to be exact. So gee...tell me how this is different than what Styx is currently offering using your logic.

Your bias is indeed showing here.

As for the current Styx offering, again, I think it's terrific for the kids involved.

Peace

Looking at this in a totally different way, Now that Dennis and Styx have now done their songs with an orchestra, we now have a wide range of songs that aren't duplicated.

Ah....well I guess that's the beauty of diversity...cuz I don't think it's necessarily anymore upbeat or downbeat than the DDY setlist. But hey...at least you now know that DDY's version has a choir!
