I for one will not be ordering it - it just doesn't excite me much.

I’m looking forward to the new songs. I normally have not liked orchestra rock CDs in the past. DDY’s was just okay. I think the 56 member chorus may add a lot.

So just out of curiosity then....the 40 members of the orchestra on DDY's cd....you feel 16 additional members is going to make a pronounced difference?

Nothing at all against these kids. I admire their talent and effort. I just think perhaps your bias is showing a little.

Ya Think?

ChicagoStyx is right up there with Zan for most unbiased out there.

She is probably hiding from all of the baseball and football fans in Chicago!

Yes, I know that I’m bias when it comes to Styx. If DDY comes out with a CD in the grand tradition of Styx I will be the first to congratulate him but he won’t do that. He will make a CD with a few up-tempo songs that sound like “Southbound Ryan” or “Hip Hop Whatever” and the DDY fans will call it a return to form. For me to call it a return to form it will have to be along the lines of “Queen of Spades”, Suit Madame Blue” or “I’m Okay”. Now I realize that everything Styx records these days does not fall into that category either but for the most part they are close. One With Everything and These are the times are great examples. DDY hasn’t recorded a song like that since 1978. Anyway my point is that my bias is based on performance. In my opinion Styx is still producing a high quality product that I can appreciate where as DDY is for one not giving us much of anything and what we do get is not my cup of tea. That is why I am bias and will remain so until DDY delivers something to my liking. Again this is only my opinion. 8)

As is yours. :D

Um nope. But hey....at least I answer questions

I’m sorry; I wasn’t trying to avoid the question I just got a little side tracked. The difference is that the song list is drastically different and the Styx set is more upbeat. :D

You were side-tracked still trying to figure out what I owe you since I totally lost the baseball bet!! Just let me know and I'll send it out. Or you just miss me - LOL

Yes, I did miss you and yes, I did win the bet…..BIG TIME! I was thinking that it would be nice to receive a copy of the new Styx DVD. Does that sound okay to you? :D

will the DVD and CD have different setlists?

I have seen a setlist posted. If they are the same, I will just purchase the DVD and rip the audio to CD.

You Tommyfans really aren't that bright are you.

That is a pretty ridiculous statement to make in my view. One thing I like about this board is that it allows free discussion of ALL things Styx/Styx related. I know sometimes people go ridiculously overboard, and feel what they say has the only validity, but, for the most part, this does not happen.

Chicagostyx has given a very valid, and reasoned, defense of why he prefers the current lineup to what Dennis is currently doing.

I don't agree with him 90% of the time, but he certainly has the right to his opinion and he usually states it quite well.

As to this whole argument about the two "competing" orchestra shows. It will natually shake out that Current Styx fans will love the CYO show and feel it is far superior to DDY's show with the Chicago Symphony. Those of us who love the double live CD Dennis did with orchestra and children's choir will feel it is the best of the two.

As NH pointed out, they will be very different and that is a good thing IMO.

Thanks Bugsy. I would also like to add that I am not a “Tommy Fan” I am a Styx Fan. I was behind the band 100% when Tommy was gone in the early 90s. I think I said this before but again I am a fan of the music of Styx. It just gets to me a little when people start to rip on Styx. I feel that the band as a whole still does a nice job and I look forward to their new music and concerts as I did back in the old days.

I respect Chicago Styx' point of view, though I don't necessarily agree with it. I think it seems, and I stress seems here, to be off if only for the fact that both factions used choirs/chorus', orchestras, and both did a fine job with it. While I would not advocate anyone buying or listening to something they don't like, I also don't advocate someone dismissing something because they perceive it will not be what they want without giving a fairshake. Given the fact that yesterday ChicagoStyx made the claim that the Styx version had a chorus and DDY's didn't...it leads me to believe he may not have given the material on it a fair shake. I have found Chicago Styx to be very straightforward and "passionate" I suppose in his views. I may not like them, but I can respect them.

I encourage everyone to buy/listen/see whatever they like.

Peace

And it's snowing here already!!! LOL

Sadie, I have not listened to DDY’s live CD in 2 years so it is my mistake as far as the chorus goes. I have it on my iPod and will give it a listen. For some reason I don’t remember the chorus.

Snowing in Naperville, IL today also!
