Rockers Genesis plan reunion tour

Rock veterans Genesis are to reform, 10 years after frontman Phil Collins left.
Collins, 55, with guitarist Mike Rutherford, 56, and keyboardist Tony Banks, 56, have agreed to take part in a major tour.
Genesis sold over 130 million albums during the '70s and '80s, despite losing singer Peter Gabriel in 1975.
A spokesman said specific details of the tour and "long term plans" including possible new material would be announced in the next few weeks.
The group was formed by Rutherford, Banks and Gabriel at Charterhouse public school in the 1960s.
Collins joined as drummer in 1970 and initially the band enjoyed cult success.
They only hit the commercial big time with hits like I Can't Dance, Mama and Invisible Touch after Gabriel left.
Collins had already voiced interest in a reunion before he announced his spilt from Orianne, his wife of six years, in March.

Well yeah, since all of their solo careers tanked in the last 6-7 years or so.

I agree, but how interested would he be in the setlist? I mean, they had a bunch of hits without him, and they'd almost be compelled to play a fair share of them. Would that have any appeal to Gabriel?

I will wait then.Saw them on the Genesis selftitled album tour (Mama).
It was OK,but a lot of showing off and it was not that great .Phil was quite the clown and got kinda annoying after a bit.
So when he concentrate on his drumming things sre looking up.
2008 sounds good to me.

No Gabriel

Postby Angiekay » Sat Oct 21, 2006 12:40 am

The long-rumored Genesis reunion is now confirmed. Invitations have been sent out for a press conference on November 7th to officially announce the Turn It On Again tour with singer-drummer Phil Collins, guitarist-bassist Mike Rutherford, and keyboardist Tony Banks.

Original Genesis frontman Peter Gabriel is not part of the reunion, but that could change in the future. In a video message on his official website petergabriel.com, the singer said: "I'm not involved in this round, or this year, so (I) just wanted to make that clear. I haven't ruled out the possibility of, of doing something in the future, but right now I'm gonna focus on, on my own work."

I saw them in Edmonton on the Invisible Touch tour.. great show!

Both Genesis and Van Halen should do the following: have a tour with BOTH singers, with one singing the first set and one on the second.

Can you imagine if Lynrd Skynrd tried this? They would have to have 14 sets...

Why? They've had lots of members, but only two singers. One isn't here anymore. God knows ONE Skynyrd set is one too many, anyway!

Both have been with Genesis since 1977 or so on (Daryl in 78), so I'd say you don't need to invoke Carnac for this one.

Gabriel quit the band,

Dennis did not quit anything

But Gabriel will be comming back in 08 so then it will be the band.

I'm going to have to disagree with this. I would say it's not Genesis without Phil Collins and his signature voice. He never would have gotten to that place if Gabriel hadn't left. He left in 1975. Genesis' biggest years were 1980 and beyond. I would love to see Gabriel back in there, but it certain won't lose anything without him.

My 2 favorite Genesis albums are the ones where Gabriel had just left 'Trick' and 'Wind'with Hackett still in.After he left they turned pop and became ehh a little bit too predictable and slightly boooring.
But this comes from a guy who thinks Styx' best album were Wooden Nickel and Equinox.

Yes, the album is.

Their college basketball isn't bad either.

Invisible touch also fantastic.

I think Genesis would of still been popular with Gabriel throughout the 80's, i imagine some of Gabriels big hits through the 80's would of been Genesis tunes.

It's been so long since Genesis was around - they should change their name to Revelation.

I think it would have been popular in a very different kind of way.

A. Gabriel would have stayed on vocals, Collins on drums.
B. Gabriel probably would have written most of the music instead of Collins taking over that position.

It would be a very different kind of music and I don't think it would have been nearly as mainstream. Peter did have some radio hits in the 80's, but not nearly as many as Genesis. Gabriels music is darker and more underground, IMO. I think that is why he went solo in the first place. He's got some GREAT solo stuff, but to look at the other side of the page, the stuff he might have written with Genesis had he stayed might not have been as good. It all happens in order for a reason I guess.

More information is coming out about the Genesis reunion, with longtime tour drummer Chester Thompson back in the fold, but former guitarist Steve Hackett isn't involved. A message on chesterthompson.com tells people that the official Genesis announcement is coming next Tuesday (November 7th), and that "exciting times" are ahead. There's been no word on stevehackett.com, but original Genesis frontman Peter Gabriel told the U.K. newspaper The Telegraph that the original plan called for Hackett to be involved, but that's no longer the case.

Gabriel is working on material of his own and he passed on the coming reunion with Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks, but he reserves the right to reconsider in the future.

Maybe Hackett didn't bother because Genesis were going to play ,mainly tunes from when he was not in the band anyways????

That could be Gabriel's excuse as well, although it would be a showcase for HIM to play some solo stuff, which would be awesome!
