Deep Purple did it (David Coverdale replacing Ian Gillan). Black Sabbath did it (Ronnie James Dio replacing Ozzy). Rainbow did it (Graham Bonnet replacing RJD). There are at least a dozen other bands I could mention who have gone on to achieve at least the same level of success with a replacement singer, so it is possible.

Very good points Marty! There have obviously been bands who have made a successful transition from one lead singer to another. When I say successful, I mean bands like Van Halen, Deep Purple, AC/DC, and Black Sabbath who went from one record-selling singer to another record-selling singer. The bands who weren't selling albums before the switch don't really count (i.e. Journey before Steve Perry).

There have also been major bands who tried unsuccessfully to replace their singers.

Yes are a good example. Jon Anderson - like Perry in Journey- was central to the Yes sound. When they hired Trevor Horn in 1980 it was a disaster.

Judas Priest hired a tribute singer to replace Halford...and the band went downhill fast.

Both bands recognised their mistake and the original singers returned.

As for Deep Purple...they changed direction after Gillan left and Coverdale brought his own distinctive sound to the band. Same with Dio when he replaced Ozzy.

Plus - both replacements - Dio and Coverdale - are world-class singers.

So I'm not at all sure we can draw any parallels between the Perry/Augeri transition and the Gillan/Coverdale and Ozzy/Dio ones.

I'd say that Yes and Judas Priest are the bands whose experiences of replacing a singer most resemble Journey's.

Deano - this is BULLSHIT. I'm in a bloody airport and I'm loaded with complaints yet again...and guess who about?

You are outta here until I get back to normal work and can keep an eye on you 24/7. You are simply unable to pull your head in for 5 bloody minutes without going off like a lunatic.

I am having a hard time believing Andrew allows this kind of crude talk on his forum. If this is what it takes to prove that your favorite band is better than the next one, I'd have to wonder why. A band's music and performance should be able to stand for itself without having to wish AIDS on anyone who disagrees with your opinion. I've stayed away from this forum lately because of these kind of assaults being allowed by one member but not by others, but this is starting to cross the line. While I agree that some forums are too quick to boot members due to their intolerance, I have no interest in being part of a forum that tolerates these kind of profane, inhumane attacks on its members.

No disrespect to you Andrew. I run forums myself and I know how hard it is to play policeman 24/7. But there are times that you have to step in and say "enough is enough". I wouldn't wish AIDS on my worst enemy. Just look at the hell and torment Freddy Mercury went through with that disease. As long as these kind of assaults are taking place here, I will just continue to lay low and post rarely as I have been since this flaming war has started.

I DON'T.

BUT I DO EXPECT PEOPEL TO BEHAVE IN A MANNER IN WHICH WOULD BE RESPECTFUL TO MY DESIRES AND REQUESTS FOR A DECENT FORUM.

My whole point when i started this thread was really ask why when a person states their opinion about a journey related topic are they verbally assaulted.

Deano, your not the only one but certainly the leader in that department.

The fact i like def leppard has nothing to do with the fact i posted this thread. Im also a Journey Fan, both Perry and Augeri Era's. Maybe down the road when JSS records some material with the band that also with be a part of my music collection.

But as of right now....Journey is a Neal Schon Cover Band....playing Journey Songs. Just My Opinion.

It's a cover band I'd invite to play my wedding, if I was getting married.

You've succeeded in doing what you set out to do in this thread. Congrats.

I don't believe that is the case as such, but I do believe that the conversations can sometimes soon head down that path, which I why I ask that people show tolerance for other opinions.
It is unfortunate though that some post to bait for an arguement.

Be lucky you've also got a forum because if I waz Andrew I'd sure as fuck wipe it out.

That is all that other thread was about. But on a regular basis it does not happen.
And you told Fred to talk about Journey, yet that was also a major point of his posts. Every thread seems to degrade into an off-topic, vulgar, abusive thread. But it's your show...

Yes, and some of it was leftover from the TBF writing sessions. If I remember correctly, Perry has at least one credit on Arrival because of this.
I'll be interested to see what, if any, songwriting chemistry Soto and Cain have.

See...to post this means to me you don't deserve respect. It is just a dopey thing to say. How can your own band be a cover band? Come on. Knock of the BS! You obviously have an agenda to say something like this.

You remember incorrectly, sir!
However, Perry's involvement has long been rumored.
Some people said "Signs of Life" had its origins in early TBF-writing sessions

Hope you're happy, Fred, Monker, McNeil, Moose, Rich, etc because I talked with Dean tonight and he has no desire to post here now.

No more bootlegs for the rest of the board, no more information. And especially after next week with what is going to be going on, that will be a huge loss here. All just because there wasn't enough "polite discussion" aka same boring shit.

Enjoy your polite Steve vs. Steve vs. Jeff debates; When will Perry come back stuff.

And before you say he will be back, I'm not so sure.

This forum's loss.

I was wondering tonite where Deano was..I thought maybe he was on a short vacation...If that is true it is this boards loss and I'm sure there will be a few posters leaving also...I'm tired of hearing those 5 whine about the same shit day after day after day...I certainly hope he changes his mind :)

So whaaaah, he called me a 4 letter word........

So what? Get some thick skin, sack up, listen to some Howard Stern and stop being a bunch of prudes.
