Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Dennis DeYoung

by VH1

Dennis DeYoung, the former singer with a band we cannot mention for legal reasons, is set to perform on December 3rd's Big in 2006 show. We frankly have no idea what the silver-haired siren is going to do, but we do know DeYoung was last spotted performing with Best Week Ever mainstay Hal Sparks on Celebrity Duets. Will they reprise "Mr. Roboto"?

ROFL LMAO - I LOVE IT :)

This directly ties into my publicity thread. I'm sure Dennis has had to start coaching venues as to what they can use for publicity because of James "The Attorney" Young. I wonder of The Attorney will start doing the same with their people so they don't use Mr. Roboto and Babe in their promos for DFB.

Only thing that would have made this funnier (with help from Mrs. Ash):

Dennis DeYoung, the former singer with a band we cannot mention for legal reasons (but rhymes with dicks and pricks ironically), is set to perform on December 3rd's Big in 2006 show. This just sounds like a whole damn lot of fun! :D

Gosh. Now he can't even use "formerly of Styx" anymore? That was the careful designation on "Celebrity Duets." What next? Will they sue him, like poor John Fogerty, for "sounding too much like himself, thus sounding too much like **** ?"

You know what's funny to me is that JY, in trying to retain iron-fisted control of the brand name Styx and its image rights, is doing WAY more harm than good and is apparently too self-involved to see it. This is the second time in a month that I have seen a major media outlet refer to that situation in a really mocking way, making Styx look stupid in the process. HELLOOOO!!??? This is a prime symptom of what Jim Vose calls "Head Up The Ass Syndrome", LOL. The better Dennis does, the more JY tries to stop him in vain, the more he makes himself look silly. I really believe JY is a better, smarter person than this, and I hope someone in his innerc circle has the balls to tell him how idiotic this is. This serves nobody's best interest.

I hope all is well.

This is so awesome.. May I quote something that a poster has stated on more than one occasion.."Somewhere in the suburbs of Chicago, there is an angry blond guy throwing his TV out the window..."

As hard as JY and company try to stop him, they can't stop the fact that Dennis has become more popular by himself than the entire band who have tried so hard to hang on to the name....Sorry guys, as they say in "Queen of Spades"....YOU LOSE!!!

That's really, really sad. I remember going to a DDY show a few years back and the formerly of Styx comment was in the guide, but someone took a black marker and crossed it out.

I agree with Sterling - JY in his exuberance to "reclaim" the Styx name at this point is shooting himself and the band's legacy in the foot. DDY, love him or hate him, is smelling more and more like a rose at least in the court of larger public opinion.

Just remember Alan, that's ok - because it's JY's "name" to do with as he pleases - and that's just part of show business. It doesn't make it right or wrong. It just makes it what it is. Who are we to judge right? Just the people who supported them (and in many cases continue to support them).

It's nice to see this being mocked in a larger way. Perhaps that is what it will take for JY to get the message.

But what I really see happening is JY suing Dennis for slander or some such because Dennis had the gall to tell people in the media "Don't use the word "Styx" and me in the same breath or I might get sued. I really wouldn't be surprised to see JY file some kind of suit claiming Dennis is trying to ruin his name by "spreading slander" or some crap.

I'm honestly laughing at the rocket scientist.

True. But I doubt he will get it. The man doesn't seem to have a sense of humor these days (if ever).

All the stuff I've read is he's got great business acumen. Right now I seriously question that. I think when they came to whatever arrangement they did to settle the lawsuit, my take is that JY thought DDY wouldn't be successful, so let him use the name Styx somewhere in limited capacity. Lo and behold, while DDY certainly isn't playing to 20,000 per night, he didn't fall flat on his face and as evidenced by why this thread has started, has gotten himself opportunities that Styx has not since 1999. So now his plan has most likely backfired, and he's looking for a way to stick it to Dennis. Maybe, just maybe, he'll realize he's ultimately sticking it to himself.

Well, if he gets an American Idol night, I would almost expect to see a lawsuit from JY. Talk about exposure! Like Idol or not, the amount of people that watch it is amazing. And how ridiculous would it be if he couldn't even say "formerly of Styx" on that. JY will look like a fool.

That would be laughable for JY to sue him for being asked to be a part of American Idol. On what grounds? Sounding too much like Styx? (I guess there is precedent there with Fogherty)...

All the brainpower in JY's head can't save him from his own ego. It's been the downfall of far, far, far greater men than JY.

I think, when Dennis appeared on Celebrity Duets, he was labeled "formerly of Styx." My guess is, this is his "legal" designation and, therefore, he is immune from any kind of suit as long as he and the show he is on follows that particular JY Law.

Allan. You hit the nail on the head. I don't think JY EVER expected Dennis to get back out on the road, record, become relevant in the music industry again, much less be a success at it, and he is probably sorry he ever agreed to that much leeway with the use of the name Styx.

I'm sure there's a lawsuit at Dennis' door this morning regarding him being on VH1 this weekend - LOL I wonder how many he was served for the month of November? LOL I'll have to check the VH1 site and see if the XXXX is changed yet. I still think it's funny how VH1 wrote that because it was so ridiculous what Dennis has to be shown as!!

I think it would be great if he made a cameo on tv, like he did in the movie The Perfect Man!! I'm sure it would be on the Fox network since they love him on there! How fun!

OMG, wouldn't that be so totally sweet after his new cd is released that he's the musical guest on SNL????? Wow!!! How fricken cool!!

Uh, yeah... they like it as COMEDY. That's why it was great in the VW commercial. That's why it was great on South Park. It's a campy piece of trivia and now he and the song are being paraded around like friggin' Charles Nelson Reilly on a 1970's episode of "Match Game". Embarrassing.

As a piece of music or art, it's lame and embarrassing for a guy of Dennis' stature. The guy that wrote "Suite Madame Blue" and "Come Sail Away" wrote "Mr. Roboto"?? Geez... It's like when McCartney wrote "Silly Love Songs"- God I hated him for that.

America loves a lot of things, doesn't mean diddly sqwat. By your definition, I guess "Oh Baby You Got What I Need" by BizMarkie and "Yummy Yummy Yummy I've Got Love In My Tummy" rank right up there with "Come Sail Away" and "Stairway to Heaven". Yeah, Americans are really smart - 2 words: "George Bush".

I will never understand why some Styx fans embrace that song. It killed the band. Oh well. I hope to God that Dennis doesn't do that and plays a song of merit.

I think he'd be AWESOME on saturday night live. And he has the sense of humor and camera presence for it. Perhaps we can get Will Ferrel to get out his cowbell during DDY singing "Mr. Roboto" :)

I can see it now…DDY walking around in a Roboto mask as everyone makes fun of him and then he sings My God! I’m sure he’ll knock um dead! All he needs to do is start throwing confetti around.

Yeah, as great as Dennis was, today he's clearly unhip and would probably be brutalized on SNL. Now, because Dennis is funny, it could turn out like the Shatner roast which was hilarious. Shatner poking fun at himself (sulu poking everybody else!) and that'd be cool actually if done in the right spirit. Unfortunately, in today's market, if he got on and played Mr. Roboto or something good like Come Sail Away or Pieces of Eight, I think it'd go over everyone's head.

Yeah he's so unhip he's been on national television shows, selling tripple platinum in Canada and likely making more money a year than DFB. Not to mention what he has planned in the next 12 months.

Tell me - how relevant is Styx that they're..... NOWHERE. They're reduced to making COVER albums and doing Symphonies (something they laughed at Dennis for doing once). They screw over their customers by advertising songs they don't play and then sue the guy who DOES play them because he's clearly more successful than they are.

perhaps they'll learn that Quality is better than Quantity. Dennis has one album that has sold more than Cyclorama, Big Bang, and CYO combined when you consider US and Canada.

Is it possible that JY can sue DDY just for existing? (Lawsuit: "DDY Sued For Continuing To Breathe.")
