Blood gushes from the wound
The cut is wide and deep
And before I turn around
He falls to his knees

A clear song rings in the blade
When steel meets hardened steel
I hear the sound of wood that breaks
A sword cuts through my shield

I drop the shield and grab my axe
A weapon in each fist
The first blow makes the helmet crack
The axe cut to the teeth

I rip the axe from the head
Covered in blood and brains
Leave the body lying dead
Ready to strike again

My sword cuts through clothes and skin
Like a hot knife cuts through snow
I smile ad the bastard screams
When I twist my sword

Sword in my hand
Axe on my side
Valhall awaits me
Soon I will die
Bear skin on my back
Wolf jaw on my head
Valhall awaits me
When I'm dead

I raise my axe above my head
My eyes stare in furious rage
Yet more blood will be shed
This is a victorious day

Blood gushes from the wound
The cut is wide and deep
And before I turn around
I falls to my knees

Sword in my hand
Axe on my side
Valhall awaits me
Soon I will die
Bear skin on my back
Wolf jaw on my head

When I'm dead

You're right....those lyrics leave me pretty cold.

Must be one of those sub-sub-sub genres. There'll only so many ways you can describe swords, pillaging, and bloodshed.

Frost*-Milliontown.

British pop writer/producer Jem Godfrey (responsible for dribble by Atomic Kitten and Holly Vallance and others) recorded a prog album with guys from IQ and John Mitchell....greats songs and Jem is a bit of a gun on the keys.

Triumph - The Sport of Kings.

Check it out - 'Somebody's out there', 'What rules my heart', 'If only' - what a great album.....and I'm quite sure Rik Emmett will never reach those notes again - unless he has a certain operation that is!!

I've been nursing a bad cold for a week, so I haven't been in the mood for music.

Default to To-Mera for thrid straight week. Hopefully next week I'll be feeling well enough to choose something different.

Spock's Beard-s/t...some very good stuff (and some crap) on this one. Probably the best NDV fronted cd they've done.

Yeah, no argument from me - he can go overboard with the high stuff though, but tracks like 'Killing Time' off Thunder Seven are just awesome.

And to think he played guitar live while doing those vocals.

Triumph's a name I haven't heard in ages. Was 'Sport of Kings' before or after 'Allied Forces?' (my fav Triumph album.)

After Jonny - I think you'd like it. 'Thunder Seven' is brilliant too!

Killing Time, off Thunder Seven, is one of my favourite Triumph songs ever. Great lyrics and over time they got more meaning... When I was 15 and heard the song for the first time I didn't really get what he sang about. 20 years later, and now I know how fast time can slip away... :(

I love Triumph S-Dip - some of their songs have a lot of good memories for me.

Have you ever heard Rik Emmett's solo work? Beautiful classical/jazzy instrumentals. I notice one of them is called 'Handwork'... Not the most classical title!

Yeah I've heard some MP3s of his stuff - he does sing on a lot of it, but it just isn't my bag based on what I've heard.

Significant departure from Triumph of course, but that's the point I suppose.

I can't recall any vocals on the records we have here. But we have just two, and he's probably made a whole bunch of them. But indeed, very different from Triumph.

Yeah, also from Thunder Seven. Beautiful indeed.

T7 was the first I heard, and absolutely loved it. All the others seemed so different from it, it took me a long time to get into them, and I still don't know them as well as I know T7. Just A Game is the one that gets closest IMO.

There are more than two solo albums from Emmett in the house...

Absolutely (vocals)
Ten Invitations From The Mistress Of Mr. E. (classical)
Handiwork (jazzy/easy listening/whatever)

My AOTW goes to Genesis "A Trick of the Tail." IMO, the best piece of work they've ever done. Not as weird without Peter Gabriel, not yet poppy even with Phil Collins at the helm, and the catchiest set of progressive songs ever written. You know you're in for a treat when the opening bass synth wrecks your subwoofer.

...

...

I had considered posting an Album of the Weak, but Tali would kill me if I did. It would've featured an Arjen Lucassen project I could never ever warm up to.

Actually, I did dig Vengeance a little bit. I grew up on glam rock because that's what my bro listens to, and sometimes all you want to do is rock out. If I discovered them about 5 years earlier I probably be praising them a little too much...

I don't think I've heard the Bodine stuff.

Ready to kill me? It's that Electric Castle release again! I like the songs, yes. But he kills off his best singers in the storyline, and that's what gets me. He didn't give the Highlander (Fish) a remote chance for survival.

I bet if Arjen had given Fish all the parts, he could've pulled off a hell of a Peter Gabriel imitation with his vocal diversity.

Maybe he had to kill him off due to budgetary constraints.

I don't want to hear Fish sing 'Valley of the Queens'.

If you like the songs thats all that should matter i thought. :?
