Current Styx wants one more shot at making a successful album and climbing everest again.
Probably won't see even a possibility of this til 2010.

The only big cd left for STYX is a reunion cd
Thats it
I say we see Dennis back in 2008
Finally, and I TRULY believe this, the entire bunch(Styx) would be MORE than HAPPY playing 30 - 40 dates a year if those carefully selected dates could bring in the same amount of jack as they earn playing 120 dates per year.

Saying that all the band wants to do is ROCK and Tour Endlessly is starting to get old & is starting to become unbelieveable.
Most everyone here knows that is a bunch of shit. If all that they want to do is rock then someone explain to me why ONE of the two new songs on their current live release is 'Just Be'. Thats 50% of their new material. 'Just Be' is EVERY BIT as soft as Babe. So was 'Yes I Can' off of the Cyclorama CD. Both songs are decent, but they sure dont rock.
I believe JY would gladly put on his Dr. Rightous uniform bark like a dog for 20 minutes then belt out I Am Woman , Sailing, & Walk Like An Egyptian in succession if it could bring him back the fame he sooooooooooo desperately craves.

This wasn't about them being happy. It was about them sticking it to Dennis. They wanted to prove to the world they could do it without him... and they can. They CAN do it without him - they just can't do it as well or make as much money.

Just Be is not a ballad by arrangement or subject matter. Personally I think you're way off base. You have a much better argument with Yes I Can.

I share your disappointment with the break up of the original Styx. When my Brother John passed away I knew that Styx would never be the same band again. I still have my moments where I wonder why some memebers couldn't get over the Ego wars. I thank you for sharing your comments. They have validated what I now what should or could be.

I honestly see the band going a few more years and then fading out. Not meant in a negative way...moreso, they've run their course. It's a natural progression.
brywool wrote:I don't agree at all. The best new styx songs have all been his and he pumps the band up in a way the former keyboardist never could.
If I hear another song with "Paradise" in it, I'm going to hurl.
Larry's got my vote.
The Styx shows are exciting events since Dennis left in my opinion. They're a more rocking band which I prefer.
No slam on Dennis, who I think is incredible, but he's not a ROCK guy anymore. The last ROCK song Dennis wrote was Boomchild. Nothing on Brave New World that he did rocked. Nothing on Edge that he wrote rocked. Nothing on Kilroy that he wrote rocked.
I think people need to get over it. If you dig Dennis, go to his shows, but I don't get the constant running down of Styx.

I will also say that I really liked Cyclorama and would like to see another release of new material in the near future.

I agree with you 100%

How could CYCLO help them at all? To me Brave New World was better. The only part I didn't like was that they didn't really work together on the album. They did miss one "opportunity" with Glen's song on Cyclo.
It would be very hard to get Glen to go back to those guys when he is happy doing what he is doing and performing some with DDY. It would be like getting Steve Perry to rejoin Journey for one night. Neal told him he would love him to be a special guest, but Steve doesn't want to.
Has Styx produced an "Original" song that made it up to the top 10 yet since 99? Have they had a album thet went Platnium in Canada yet? Are any of the guys on tv besides DDY? Jy on Court Tv doesn't count.
To me Styx was never a full blown "Rock" band like Jy wanted. They were like Journey (Classic Journey, not like Lipsync Journey), and REO speedwagon, playing different types of music. Chuck said it in an email to me once, when I commented on Styx on his site, he said this and I quoteI share your disappointment with the break up of the original Styx. brywool wrote:No, I know Glen's not coming back. It'd just be cool if he did
BNW better than Cyclo?? I can't agree there at all. Cyclo was everything I wanted a Styx album to be. It was a great piece of work. BNW was fractured with a few good songs on it.
Styx is all over public television right now with the CYO show.
The Ego comment was directed at Dennis I would guess as we've seen where Chuck's allegance lies
I know Glen wouldn't rejoin. Just wish he would
Has Dennis produced an "original" song that made the top ten since 99?Has he written a ROCK song since 1981?
Styx and Dennis are no longer relevant to pop music. You know what? Neither are McCartney the Stones or Pink Floyd. But I'd go see any of them in a flat minute including Styx or Deyoung. ROCK bands aren't relevant anymore period. Bon Jovi, uh, I guess. But what they're doing now ain't really rock, is it.
