Anyway, I'm just here to talk about Styx.
It's never going to happen, but could you imagine how great the background vocals would sound on a new album with a lineup of DDY, Tommy,
Glen Burtnik, JY and Todd?
Do any of you have Glen's solo work? I have a few of his albums. The man can flat out sing.
By the way, I love Chuck also. I met him and John before one of the Edge shows in 1991.
Both very nice, good guys.

Glen has been pretty much my favorite member of Styx since 1991. I know that goes against the grain of Styx fandom, but it's the truth. Of course, Todd is up there as well, and that's sayin' something.

I've been a fan since 1983, just before the split. I have all Styx's albums, sans a few of the compliations that have been recycled over the years. I love all carnations of Styx, namely 1975-1983 and 2000- 2003, but I love them all.

I have most, if not all, of Gen's solo works, including some rare gems of unreleased stuff that I acquired when Paul Holt, Geri, and I started working on his official website (this was before Queenie, who is the almighty Glen keeper, as far as I'm concerned). I couldn't agree with you more. I get the most enjoyment out of GB's solo works than any other to date.

How come his stuff isn't available on Itunes?
I can't find any of his solo stuff, though I have Palookaville and the one he did where Neal Schon played on it.
I'd like to get his last one, but I'd rather get it off of Itunes then send away for it...

You can't get Glen's stuff off iTunes, except for maybe the song he did for Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (Not So Far Away). You can probably still order Welcome to Hollywood off Glenburtnik.com, the official Glen website, and I assure you, you will not get ripped off.

I'm not worried about being ripped off. I like Glen and I'm bummed mightily that he's not in the band any longer. I just hate to send away for stuff...

I have Welcome to Hollywood and Heroes and Zero's. That's the one that Neil played on.
Great album. I didn't know a thing about Glen until he joined Styx.

I have some VHS recordings of Styx with Glen in 1990/91 when they were on the Arsenio Hall show (remember that!) and when they were on Rick Dees' old show. I have to dig them out. Haven't seen them in a while.

As much as I love Dennis, I thought Love is the Ritual was by far the best song on Edge.

By the way, the DJ on KFOX here in San Jose, California said that Styx was going to do some dates with the original Asia this summer. That was the first I had heard of that. There are no dates posted yet on the Styx or Asia websites. That would be a cool show. I used to love Asia back in Highschool when they first came out. I haven't listened to any of their albums in years, but I did like them back in the early 80's.

Heros and Zeros! That's what it's called! Yeah, I've got that too. I only really dig the rockers on it though. I'll give it another listen. I'm old now. Maybe I'll like the slower stuff more.

AMEN! (And World Tonight, and Edge)
Suddenly, with Ritual, Styx became NOT the whitest band in the room.

As much as I love Ritual, I think Glen borrowed a bit from Dan Reed Network's tune "You Are My Ritual".
Great song. Still like Glen's song as well. It was the best thing (and hippest at the time) on that album.

What's the story with "Not Dead Yet"? Why did Styx include a song by an outside writer? I'm thinking record company pressure...

Edge and World Tonight are both great, but you have to admit, the Dennis and JY vocals in the background of Edge and Ritual are what make them sound like Styx songs!

Actually, I was happy that it didn't sound like Styx and had some Funk to it.
If there was a whole album like that, by anybody, I'd have snapped it up. Great song.

Ritual rocks. No doubt about it. It is a funky, non Styx sounding tune, but the background vocals are very much Styx Sounding. And it's always sounded great in my car! I love the way it Thumps!!

I always thought album had a great snare sound to it. It was probably a manufactured sound, but I liked it.

I had a friend that HATED Styx with a flying passion, and he though Ritual was the only decent song Styx ever recorded.

I wish Dennis would have contributed a few more rockers on it to match Glen's rockers.

Dennis obviously changed with Cornerstone. But I have to admit, 2 of my favorite Dennis tunes are Borrowed Time and Rockin the Paradise. Of course, he co-wrote those with the rest of the band!

This would be an interesting newspaper headline for Feb 4.

All 4 Living members of Styx were in Florida on Feb 3 kicking off the Super Bowl, and no gun shots were fired

It is a reunion of sorts, there all in Florida within miles of each other.

Dennis hasn't written a rocker since BoomChild which was a solo effort (great song). That last STYX rocker he wrote was "High Time" and that doesn't really count as a rocker in my book. Neither does High Crimes. That's THE worst song Dennis has ever done. Terrible.

That's probably my biggest problem with him. Dennis, toss the Rhoades in the garbage and start writing ROCK songs again.

cittadeeno23;

Welcome. As with any message boards, you can read a lot of the posts and quickly figure out what is what.

A LOT of us like to kid around here and some take it well and others don't.

Enjoy and start some topics that interest you.

Thanks.
I have never really spent any time on a message board. I'm usually sick of the computer by the time I get home from work after staring at one all day in the office! I want to give this one a try. I have no problem with people kidding around, It takes a lot to Offend me!

I have probably been to some of the same Styx/Dennis shows as many of you, but just didn't know who you were. I'm waiting to see where both bands tour this year. I live in California, and prefer to see shows here, but last year I flew to Morristown to see Dennis/Glen. It was worth it! Especially since I spent the next 2 nights in Times Square and went to a couple Yankee games!
I know Styx is in Vegas next month and I have a buddy who lives there. In fact he is doing security for both shows at the Luxor. I may go.

Only You, my pitiful little friend. But I'm flattered to be in Bry's company, regardless.

Hey, remember that time you...I mean "Dan" emailed me, Dawn-Marie, and Glen about Damn Yankees a few years back?

Or how about when you went demanding a refund for a concert you never saw then backpeddling when it was offered to you by the band themselves? I think you called Keith "Guido." Classic.

Or the time you referred to Kim Christopher, the girl who died of Spina Biffida, as a "retard?"

And all those posts about how Styx fans are nothing but fat, middle-aged housewives...

Oh, and what about that pothead guy on Styxland? He was a lot of fun too.

I still have the phony picture you sent of yourself too. It went along with all the emails telling me about your sexual conquests. This, of course, was during the time you were trying to be my "confidant" to get me tell you all the juicy "insider information" I had (even though I had virtually none, and would have never in a million years given to you if I had).

Oh god, remember when my fiances' brother died, and you sent me that heartfelt email telling me that I was a whore?

ALL brilliant, my friend. Some of us from the old board still laugh at how proud of yourself you were to reveal that Dan never existed and how you have assumed over a two dozen identities in Styxland over the course of time. Like this was something to boast about, or like anyone cared.

When someone like you sarcastically refers to me as a good person, I am honestly relieved.

Oh, by the way, welcome Citta...I'll give you credit enough to learn who is full of shit around here on your own. It shouldn't take long.

LOL, part of what we all love about the music of Styx is the good times it brings back . . . (sniff) . . .

Styx brings back tons of memories for me. All good. The Best of Times was my Prom song (yes, I'm that old!).
But the millions of times I had either GI/PO8/Cornerstone or PT cranking on my car stereo with friends in the car 'rocking out' will never be forgotten.

The incredible harmonies on songs like "Love in the Midnight" and "Snowblind" still give me chills when I listen to them. And the Guitar work on "Queen of Spades" still gets me fired up!

I'm new here, (I lurk alot) but I love to read all the postings.

Can someone give me a quick catch up on a few things ?

Was there bad feeling when Glen left Styx recently ? Is he now working with Dennis on his new rock solo cd or just playing a few gigs here and there?

thanks !

No. Glen was tired of endless touring and wanted to spend more time with his family and finish his solo album.
