I don't have any speakers on my computer here at work! I can't wait to get home so I can hear this.

I saw this show in Clear Lake, California back in 1997.

Nice vid. Damn, that's a big stage.

There's every reason in the world for me to find "Paradise" to be an incredibly tired, pedestrian, DDY-by-numbers snooze-fest, and yet it holds up really well. Weird.

The '97 was a very good show, one of the best I think but there were plenty of issues behind the scenes. Listening to a recent Tommy interview, he said by the end of this tour, there were some major personality issues between the members. He said when they were younger, adversity wasn't a totally bad thing because it created some good tension and some great music but as they have gotten older, that crap is just not worth it anymore. Let these guys deal with their own issues. None of us were there to experience it so how can any of us truly take sides.

I was bored in '97 with the shows - it wasn't *that* different than the '96 tour sans a few songs. Some of me disliking the shows had to do with circumstance of things promised and never delivered at the time. I walked out of both after "Queen of Spades" if it's any clue of my frame of mind towards the band at the time.

"On My Way" stands up better than I thought, though. It's still kinda catchy and sounds like Styx much more than some of the recent stuff. You'd almost think they'd pull it out now due to the fact it uses "criminal mind" in the lyrics.

The other thing of note here is that even on, say, the REO/Journey/Styx shows, Styx has not had as decent of a stage setup since '97. Now, they've had better video, but I think the overall lighting and stages from '96 and '97 were better.

Did they do "Dear John" at this concert? Is there a video of "Dear JOhn" anywhere?

Quite a few folks agree on that, and I think a large part of it was just picking up the vibe from the band. As we've discussed before, the seams were definitely frayed at that point.

I don't understand why they weren't using it as early as '99, while it was still a "recent" song and they were more open to pulling out full-length deeper cuts.

I rather liked the 2001 setup, with the big letters, back-ramp and wind streamers. Simple, but used to nice effect. I also enjoyed the slide projection from the Arch Allies tour; thought they could have done more with that.
