DDY concert attendance

Does anyone have any statistics of how many people have been attending his solo shows? I know he has been doing well in canada! But what about the US?

The Morristown, N.J. Show in 2006 was full and so was the Sacramento, Ca. show in 2004.

I've been to numerous DDY shows since 2001 or so. He's close to, if not at, capacity in most venues I've seen him in. The only one which didn't look sold out (and it was the balcony) was the HOB Lost Treasures show last year in Atlantic City.

I've seen many Styx shows as well, but more with empty seats - at least in New England.

So it's all relative. I think both draw depending on the market, but since Dennis tours less, there *may* be a bit more of a draw versus Styx who historically you could see in your area 2x a year at least.

Styx had problems selling out one of the two Massachusetts shows in the fall (back to back nights at venues 30 miles apart) and Dennis sold about 700 tickets in Beverly Mass a few years ago. In all honesty, Dennis show got no press, but that is par for the course for both of them these days.

Styx/REO/Journey did well in Worcester, and the Bad Co/Billy Squier/Styx/that opening act guy did OK at Harborlights. I've always seen DDY not in MA (ironically enough). The last time I saw Styx in MA was in Lowell at the Aud which was far from sold out. I've never thought of MA has a stronghold for anyone. Even Aerosmith doesn't draw what they once did up here.

Dennis played with the Cleveland Ohio Pops Orchestra at the State Theatre on Saturday, March 6th. 2004.
I saw literally no promotion or advertising in the local "free" newspapers. The theater was 85-90% full. Capacity for the state theater is 1300 seats.

I saw Dennis in Cincinnati at the Aronoff. Prob holds 2,000 on 2 levels. He played with the Symphony. It was filled. He was on WLS today on Roe Conn's show and said he was called by John Travolta to play at some event/party in Miami during the Super Bowl week. He also said he is writing a rock album to be out in 2007. I have no desire to watch whatever Tommy and JY think they're doing. They probably have to bundle themselves with 2, 3, or 4 other bands to get any size crowd.

Are you kidding? His family is at every show. They are the only people that will work for him

Actually, I think both camps are capable of putting about 2000 butts in seats, not counting festivals. The differences is that STYX plays considerably more shows.

Yeah, the brand name counts for a lot -- not as much as it used to, but DDY uses it in his promo material for a reason.

Nevertheless, in terms of staying power, I think the average fan who came away from a "Styx" show having not heard Too Much Time, Renegade, Fooling Yourself, etc would probably be as disappointed as folks who see today's line-up and don't get to hear Babe & Roboto, if not moreso.
